Does anyone not like Razum-dar??

    I like Raz... but...

I don't like the fact that there are so many great characters NPC in a base game (yes, including Argonians) that have a huge potential as a recurring characters, that we would like to see again in some newer content, but oddly ZOS is bringing same few characters again & again...

Tbh. It will be plain weird if they for example bring more recurring Khajiit NPCs than Argonian ones in something that is supposed to be Argonian / Imperial chapter / year long story... I mean it made sense for Summerset (because Aldmeri Dominion) and in Elsweyr (because it is a Khajiiti homeland), but for Black Marsh ? I think they should bring some Argonain NPCs (Like Captain One-Eye, Sees-All-Colors or Walks-Softly).

Again, I am not saying don't bring back Cats, I am saying it will be weird to see more Cats than Lizards in Black Marsh lol.

I don't care as long as I don't have to look at Lyris again and I am a Jen Hale fan. I just hate Lyris.

I don't care for him. Didn't really pay much attention to him on the first play through, and was then mystified when I saw people praise him. Then when I replayed the storylines I've decided I don't like him. As far as I'm concerned he should stay dead in Reaper's March...

First encounters with him when I first did the quests were just ok. Since then he's just annoying and I skip his dialog every time he opens his furry mouth.

This thought arbitrarily occurred to me today. Raz seems to be universally beloved. I'm a fan of his & haven't ever seen anyone post a discouraging word about that slick alley cat! I'm a fan & hope our paths cross again in future content!

Talking about himself in third person is weird. Cats being able to talk at all is even weirder. As for Raz himself, he's a bit full of himself isn't he? ;)

I can't stand all cats, and I can't stand all crocodiles, either. Their maximum place is in the fields and in the mines.
And every spring, the cats mark the entire Vivek, it is impossible to pass, it is a continuous stench.

I cannot speak specifically for Raz, but only in relation to the Khajiit in general. I think I would like them more if they didn't have that awful accent. I can only judge about the way they are talking in the German version of the game and I'm quite upset by this, some sort of, "Middle Eastern accent". Honestly, I find it a bit unfair because no other ESO race speaks with such a strong, artificial accent. Why Khajiit have to be separated from the other ones in that way?

Yes, because that's how their language Ta'agra and culture works. So when they speak Tamrielic many of them continue to do this, you know an accent. But not all of them. Plenty of them learn to speak Tamrielic like everyone else, and khajiit who are born outside their culture and language doesn't do it from the beginning. Like Zhasim, who was raised by orcs, so he speaks like an orc. If a non-khajiit was raised among khajiit they would likely speak the same way they did.

I did not know that, very interesting, thanks for the info, I just hate that way of speaking.

I also didn't like the way the elephants talk in Mass Effect

I am sure if they were programmed that way they would hate you back.
Also, the way they talk is part of their culture.
I wont ask what did irl cats do to you to deserve your hate but it must be something truly horrible.

I just don't like cats, does there have to be a trauma? There are people who do not like broccoli, I do not like cats.

I would have no problem if cats were programmed to hate me, I'm sure there are people who hate me, I respect that.

To be honest, my first impression of Raz was from the "Messages Across Tamriel" in which my Pact Vestige meets up with Raz while getting a meeting with Queen Ayrenn. In which he made this comment to Varanis Arano:

Razum-dar: "Tell the lovely Dunmer, Naryu, that she is very welcome to disguise herself as a serving girl and show off for this one."
    Queen Ayrenn: "Raz! Inappropriate."
Razum-dar: "This one has no regrets."

Ugh. Inappropriate, not to mention that by that point, he was taunting Varanis about someone who'd helped her several times and was, well, as much of a friend as someone like Naryu has friends. It went over like a lead balloon, and if she weren't on a diplomatic mission, Varanis would've called him out for it.

Raz was considerably more polite the next time he and Varanis met in the Gold Coast and Summerset, so perhaps he got the message that she wasn't impressed.

To be clear, Raz is great in the Dominion questline and Summerset. My AD characters get along great with him. It's just that I did the Pact Questline first, and so my first impression was very colored by that first meeting in which Razum-dar is a randy, inappropriate jerk.

He honestly came across to me like that plenty of times in the AD story line too. He's got more character there yes, but it really gets on my nerves. He seems to have matured quite a bit by the time Summerset happens.

I guess I feel about Raz the same way I feel about Darien. I could happily never deal with the base game versions because they come across as pretty misogynistic (and randy) jerks more often than not, but I like their DLC versions. They've grown up by then and have a less grating personality.

I hate Argonians. I hate the way they look, the way they talk, their entire culture TBH. I don't mind Khajiits but i despise and hate real cats. I don't love him. I don't hate him, I just don't really like him as a person. He comes off as condescending and smarmy to me and I feel like he thinks I'm basically a dippy mook he can throw at the front line of stuff while he does his important work.

Lyris is the one I really dislike. I hate people bossing me around, I hate being told to do something I was already doing, and it drives me crazy that her hitbox jumps in front of me when I'm trying to loot bodies so basically she interrupts me in the middle of my work and then yells at me that we don't have time to chitchat. 0/10 would not hang with her IRL, I don't let people talk to me that way. And yeah I know how silly it is to get irritated by NPC dialogue but I get IMMERSED.

I like him. He's one of their better developed characters with an actual personality. It's the bland and generic NPCs I don't care for. I'm also not looking to hang out with or marry video game NPCs, so even if they are arrogant and flirty, I would still prefer that to a boring character who brings nothing interesting to the story. Characters who do not risk being offensive are usually the bland and dull kind.

Razum is just disgusting. Every thief from Covenant and TG story has some charm (ofc Jakarn is unmatched) and some funny details. But Raz is just an narcissic cat with idiotic accent.
He with Sheo and Abnur are absolutely worse characters in classic storyline yet imposed to be most beloved only by endless (and badly written) spam in every corner

Abnur is one of my favorites. He is voiced to perfection by Molina (who is an amazing actor).

I wish they would have incorporated the companion system into the story line and allow you to use the main characters instead of all new ones. I would have liked to run around killing stuff with Darien and Abnur. I enjoyed that Argonian from Morrowind too. She was cool.

The glyph trader in Hews bane doubles down on this, he is not an native Ta'agra speaker but he live an place with plenty of Khajiit so they and probably others to expect Khajiit to use this one so he tries to use it.
Languages is a bit weird also in real life.

That they are. So in fantasy and sci-fi with other races they are bound to get weirder. It's very common to see in sci-fi so I've always thought it's nice to see it in Elder Scrolls, a fantasy setting.
Argonian's Jel is even stranger and is supposedly extremely hard for non-argonians to learn. It uses no past or future tense, and seem to use metaphors a lot.
As I understand some real languages don't have past or future tense either who would be super weird.
The Khajiit dialect is just an funny difference.

One place in Norway they call potatoes apples, I got the meat and the vegetables and was asked if I wanted apples, I take it after the meal was my response :) I guess they got potatoes and apples around the same time back 3-400 years ago and it stuck even if anybody with an brain would know it confuses others 50 years ago.

I don't know if this is spoilerish for new players, but I'm currently playing through Reaper's March on one of my characters. In one of quests, Raz is trapped inside an Ayleid ruin and tells you to destroy the dangerously powerful whatsit so it can't ever be misused-- but destroying it will mean that he and the others with him will be trapped inside the ruin and will die. What to do?

The hints tell you to talk to Raz. Remember that time when we did that thing at that place? And then that other time when we did that other thing at that other place? Ah, yes, happy memories of our times together!

Enough talk! Will you please destroy the dangerously powerful whatsit now and doom Raz to die? Sure, okay. (Destroys it.)

I think I probably let Raz live the first time I did that quest on my Breton character, but this Redguard character is not as much of a sentimental softie. :)

I'm pretty neutral about all the "special" NPCs in the story lines. I don't really like any of them much, though I don't totally dislike any of them either. Someone has to be the "directors" and quest givers, might as well be people like Raz and Abnur and Darien....

Razum-dar often rubs me the wrong way. He jokes too much and in wrong situations, and seems to be too full of himself. I don't really like that kind of type in real life either, so it's personal taste, I suppose. On the other hand, some of his quips are rather funny, so it evens out things somewhat. I do get why he's so beloved by the fandom, but don't really care much of him.

On a related note, Queen Ayrenn is another character I think is overrated. She obviously despises her own people and their culture, and is willing to mould them into her own image whether they wanted it or not. So, somewhat of a despot. In fact, Veiled Heritance has some very strong good points about why Ayrenn is unfit to rule. To my mind, the only real reason they are the bad guys is their extremism: their overblown racism, deals with the Daedra and willingness to kill even their own people to further their goals. But still, on the balance I like Ayrenn somewhat as she has more appealing aspects, too. I actually think the writers might well have made this scenario so ambivalent intentionally. After all, e.g. the Magistrix Vox storyline is another one where the bad guy (or gal in this case) actually has some good points.
Agree, Ayrenn has an good ideology and serious drive but she is an Napoleon.
She want to stamp her cute ass on the ruby throne because she is the best ruler, yes she is good but lets talk about this.
The veiled heritance on the other hand are idiots, if the Altmer drops the Bosmer and Khajiit they become an small fish.
Khajiit would go DC as they have an Khajiit population in Alkit and they will free Khajiit slaves in EP areas.
Probably that the Bosmer will agree to at least let armies pass and supply them.

On the other hand the veiled heritance is very realistic, yes they was idiots but ISIL managed to pull so much agro that WW2 Germany feel like an underdog.
Without having tanks or an air force and all the other stuff while the enemies now had nukes and stealth bombers.
Later was negated by ISIL not having radar :)

I already love Khajiit as my only played race so...

They're animal warriors (I already love animals) who are natural born hunters with mini knives called claws who are physically probably the strongest race. (Maybe tied with argonian)

You know who wins in a fistfight right? That's not even regarding the other forms they have that are literally compared to werewolves. Also night vision? No wonder the Bosmer had to wild hunt against them, and that still was a tie.

I do miss him Raz though, once you run all their quests they vanish. Guess it makes sense if you finish storylines.

Raz comes across as a DM's character that they were so fond of, they they put into the game to show off how awesome the character is. Anyone who's played tabletop has run into the infamous "DMPC" and he ...he strikes me as one of these.

In N Else, we spend a good part of the quest seeing how awful his petty mother is to him and how she and his hapless brother underestimate his obvious greatness. Even though he's a secret agent of the queen--the queen's messenger gives him This Important Message From the Queen right in front of them...which results in their expressions of dismay and bowing and scraping.

This is after we see all of these women fawning over him.

    ...

He has his strengths--he just reads so much like a DMPC that it makes me wonder just which designer or developer he used to belong to.

Queen Aryenn is a deliberately crafted game feature--she was made the was she is to give PCs of that faction someone inspiring to go to war for (the three factions war).

Trouble is, doing so, she had to break with/take a stand against most of her people's culture and beliefs. She is a decent person--but they had to break a lot to turn her into that Inspiring Figure.

Each of the factions needed leads that could be inspiring--she was constructed, deliberately, to be so. There's nothing wrong with that. I just...find her a bit tropey, though I did love the questline with her and her brother, and how she handled it.

All this talk about Queen Ayrenn and the veiled heritance...

One thing is being overlooked, the veiled heritance eventually go on to become the thalmor you have to deal with in TES:V.

So, in the end, for good or bad (mostly bad).. the heritance won.
