Geez. I didn't go in and crap on EU players when their server was a RIP. Why would you come in here and say we're taking this too personally when we're missing out on event time.

Because there hasn't been any major updates to the psn in the last couple of weeks. But this is the 2nd week in a row there has been an issue. And they just coincidently got bought by Sony's competitor.

Makes me feel like maybe MS wanted ZOS to update our servers after they finished MS and PC. So maybe they can't even start on ours until they finish with Microsoft products. But they all gotta come down at the same time for whatever reason. Just my personal theory. I wouldn't be trying to guess if they just told us why we keep having issues.
You do realize that if this were ever the case Sony could sue the living daylights out of Microsoft and win?

Placing a priority on servicing your own products first is not something that Sony could sue over, nor is it something that would cause other companies to stop doing business with a company as large as Microsoft.

You're allowed to give premium service to your own customers, so long as it doesn't go so far as to be anti-competitive. They could even end service to ps4 users altogether if they wanted. I doubt they would though. But I wouldn't be surprised if xbox users did eventually end up with exclusive perks for being part of the MS family.

Something is going on, likely with a backend update to the PSN, that is causing a conflict with the game. Totally feasible and doesn’t require an update on the player side as their interaction with the PSN hasn’t changed.

My guess is that it has nothing to do with PSN, but the console code specific to PS4 that is the problem. ZOS code. They are only consulting with Sony because they have to get this fixed NOW and Sony might be able to help figure out what went wrong.

(Yes, I just boxed up my PS4 yesterday and an Xbox is has replaced it)

In fact I just watched a bit about how Sony's little system requiring your console to constantly sync to their servers could potentially brick your unit and even leave you unable to play any of your titles on PS4 once they drop the servers supporting it because of PS5.

So yeah, maybe you SHOULD blame Sony.

So the lag and the game breaking bugs and the freezing when when you do something as simple as equipping an item and the glitches with friends lists and the constant crashes are all Sony’s fault right? No. The problem is ZOS incorrectly coded this game wrong FROM THE VERY BEGINNING so now everyone has to suffer for it including themselves. And the worst thing about all this is the fact that there was no apology and I’m assuming no compensation will be offered to remedy this and to show a sign of good faith to a huge portion of their player base.

Come on be real didn't Microsoft just buy this company? The game runs fine on a pc I don't play on xbox but maybe you should play on a pc. I don't think they are purposely trying to make your game run bad, maybe ps4 needs a update too? As consoles go how long does the current console last? I am asking because I don't own one and only play on a pc.

A console "lasts" about seven years, which is about the same as a pc, as hardware specs increase go. PS3 was introduced in 2006, PS4 in 2013, PS5 in 2020. Consoles are often derided as poor gamer's pc, but that's unfair especially given the controller ergonomics which is so much better than M&K. I know many gamers who use console controllers on pc for the better ergonomic experience, sim games being the exception.

Nope, all my other games (and MMOs) are running in top shape on the PSN. GTAV running like a pro.

That doesn't really rule out that it isn't something with psn its just that its not something thats effecting multiple games. Its more or less something between psn and eso. Whos at "fault" is an assumption.

Last week on console was maintenance. That was internal server work done on the back end. Typically at the end of the month that maintenance is done to update the crown store for the next month as a finalization. At that time the prologue was also unlocked for play.

This week is different. This week was an actual patch, virtually the same incremental PC got almost a week ago, and required changing of the game code. It’s the first incremental since the DLC initially dropped. That means that anything Sony did on its own backend server maintenance could cause unforeseen issues. Usually that doesn’t happen but it seems that in this case something was done that caused significant performance problems between what ZOS internally tested on its servers to ensure basic stability and what was done with a live test on the actual PSN during the downtime today.

@Vlad9425 nothing just gets pushed out. Every game gets an internal test just to make sure an update doesn’t wipe all player data. That said differences between builds result in different problems. What happens on XBOX is different from PS4/5. They’re coded different ways and operate on different networks. To assume that it’s something like purposeful sabotage is ridiculous.

You can assume what's far more likely.

PSN doesn't have an issue with the other games in it's network.
PSN has no mention of any updates causing issues for any other games, as they typically do anytime their end has caused service interruptions for a variety of games across their network.
ESO has a console specific update in the works
ESO has been bought buy a competitor.
ESO is the only game with an issue.

Odds are very small that it's not ESO. It probably isn't anything nefarious. But it's probably them

I wouldn't know what order, if any they did it in. It would make sense, to me, to have a team, no matter how small, dedicated to each platform, since the backend stuff is different for all of them, well, the main three? Not sure how different from PS 4 to 5, for example. It's just that all the tinfoil hat stuff does is agitate people that are already rightfully aggravated.

No, I don't play on XBox. <nifty pre-emptive strike. I also don't own a PS, and you couldn't pay me to. I still remember when Sony sabotaged my computer, and all my unrelated digital rights, for having the nerve to play a music CD on my computer. Not rip one, mind you, just play one.

I don't think they want to oust ps users. They want Playstation to succeed because it's more money for them. I do think they'd want to incentivize us to play on XBOX or PC instead though. If not now, then eventually. So maybe we miss out on some perks or maybe maintenance is just a little faster, that kind of thing. They probably did run into a genuine issue with Playstation, but I also think maybe they could have caught it earlier if PS was serviced first since it had an issue last week. But they serviced it last because it's a Sony product. That's my personal theory anyway. I could be way off base

I disagree. As an affected user who's already rightfully agitated, I have found commiseration in the posts that are also speculating and blowing off steam. And actually only been agitated by the people telling us not to be agitated. I think as long as people aren't claiming zos is doing something illegal or nefarious, or harassing staff, it's fine. We're all a bit annoyed and this is the place we're supposed to discuss our complaints, after all. I think it would help a lot if zos gave us some insight into why this is keeps happening.

How do you all assume its some sort of nefarious action by zos or ms? Maybe it does have something to do with psn. 🤷‍♂️

And now ZOS are blaming Sony

Oh, is that how you read Gina's comment? Because I read it as meaning "Sony is helping us figure out what is causing the issue so we can fix it," not "We are helping Sony figure out what is causing the issue so they can fix it." Nowhere did I see any wording which suggested that ZOS is "blaming Sony" for the issue.
I've fought mudcrabs more fearsome than me!
