I used to think Guar was pronounced like Hour or Sour.

until I heard an NPC pronounce it like "Gwar!"

    that's all...

A friend of mine says "cow-rus" and it's just the cutest thing in her Russian accent.

    But yeah, I believe it's "Chore"-"Rus".

I've always said "Bang kor ai" but then my accent hooks on to "or" sounds so that comes more naturally to me.

Pronunciation and accents are such funny things when it comes to fantasy languages. Most dwemer and nordic areas sound very funny in my accent compared to my friends.

Ugh the NPCs in Morrowind saying Nerevarine like Nair-uh-vair-een always hurt... Nerevar, as someone else said rhymes with Moon-And-Star, so Nerevar-een.

But also when they all pronounce Sotha Sil like SEEL It's so ugh...

I always said Anequina as Ana-kee-nuh, but I've come around to An-neh-kwee-nuh.

This topic made me remember when a guildmate asked how to say "Rkugamz" (Darkshade Caverns' Dwemer ruins).

I had to say for him speak as if there was an "A" after the "R", if the "M" almost didn't exist and if the "Z" sounded like an "S" ("Rakugas").

Dwemer vanished because all of them choked to their deaths trying to talk to each other
I am the very model of a scientist Salarian, I've studied species Turian, Asari, and Batarian.
I'm quite good at genetics (as a subset of biology) because I am an expert (which I know is a tautology).

I've always said Rkugamz as "Ri-koo-gums". Now the really weird one to try is Naldzthdbar....

[And what on NIRN is this stupidity of censoring a small part of an attempt to "quasi-pronounce" a dwemeri name for a ruin??? Sheesh.]

Oh all dwemer names are easy. Just aim your pinky toe towards nearest furniture edge, kick, then say the name through the pain! You will either be close or you said a different dwemer name.

Go to the town of Dreughside just outside the NW wall of Wayrest in Stormhaven. Talk to the NPCs there and you can learn the correct pronunciation of the word "dreugh."

    Brflgnk = Burr full gunk

Not from ESO, rather from an old B&W short film featuring a younger man and older man, the younger man a B movie actor (he was in The Creature from the Black Lagoon) and the older man (I think) an actual scientist who sometimes did short intros for SF movies. They were in a series of "educational" shorts that used to be shown in schools back when I was a kid.

In one short they were talking about (IIRC) how to pronounce words, or what words mean, or something-- a "computer" would spit out a word on a card and the older guy would educate the younger guy (and viewers) about it. One of the cards came out with BRFLGNK printed on it, which the younger guy thought must be due to a malfunction because "it isn't a word," but the older guy said "yes it is, burr full gunk." That led to (IIRC) a discussion about how ancient Egyptians didn't have vowels in their words, so modern people have to sort of guess how the words were supposed to be pronounced.

I just searched for "brflgnk" to see if I could find a copy of that old short. I couldn't find it, but based on the results I saw, it looks like I'm not the only person who remembers seeing that old short. :)

EDIT -- Okay, it might have been Hemo the Magnificent, with Richard Carlson and Frank Baxter.

It also depends on your native language what you can pronounce or not. With some languages, you're more used to Dwemeri consonant clusters, than with others. There is a thing like "syllabic consonants", meaning treating consonants like R, L, M etc. as a vowel, and if you're used to that, names like Rkugamz become considerably easier, and you don't need to insert a vowel there.

I pronounce them any way I want to.

It's my game, and when I play with Comms, it is for Dungeons and Trials. None of these items are part that that experience, so it does not matter how I say it.

Now, hearing that song in Shimmerene about Syrabane, that has a weird in game pronunciation
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Bugloss: like bugle and gloss combined.

Chaurus: Now this as far as I know there are no english words to compare to in pronunciation. The closest I can think of is Chorus like stated above. Maybe cowerus if you accentuate the u.

    Bankorai: Bank or I.

Dreugh: like Greg but with a D and the e sounds like an a. As npc's pronounce it in game. I dont know why but I always thought that it should have an r at the end like Dreughr but maybe that was skyrim before the mandela effect or something.
