Biggest Fears Regarding Companions

1. There are enough pets running around getting in the way as it is so I hope other people's companions are invisible somehow.

2. As for using Companions, I am looking forward to it as long as their dialog is not the same 5 lines over and over again. This might be my biggest worry about them. ESO has so many NPCs that just say the same thing on repeat, like a certain Orc women who I won't name. Putting the time in to get a companion and customize them will be pointless if we are just going to get sick of hearing the same line every five minutes.

That's exactly whats gonna happen. You go to a bank in major city and it's full of wing flapping twilights and companions + non combat pets. Zoo scrolls online.

That sounds fine. What wouldn't be is the grind that would no-doubt accompany it.

we have X Nuzimaneh, Thysis, Esabi and the other cat, so many clones, plus the pets mentioned by someone else earlieron.
So I fear we now will have to add the companions to the list.

Oh well, from a certain viewpoint this adds more variety, yes?

My fear is they are going to be like NPC quest companions and combat pets that follow too close and are always in the way.

For me, it's not a "fear". It's what I'm expecting. I'll just stick with my bear thanks. BTW, that's the bear I dismiss the minute I'm out of combat....

My main fear is that they're going to be bland in terms of personality, backstory, and level of interactiveness with the world. I also fear that they will stand too close and either block things or I will end up activating them every time I try to loot a barrel or open a door. A lesser fear is that everyone will be running around with either a copy of my Bastian/Mary or a randomly generated "knight" or "rogue" which will probably look just as awful. To get around that part, I think someone's companion should only be visible if you're grouped with the player.

It would be great if they could introduce no pet/summons areas in cities like they have no mount areas in some places.

Not the whole city, but some of the busiest areas like around the bank or crafting stations and writ drop-off points. Alinor crafting stations automatically dismount you as soon as you go into the area, they could use a similar thing to automatically hide pets, bankers, companions etc.

As long as there's no quests which take place there shouldn't be any problems with including sorcerer pets and warden bears in the list of things which are hidden there.

Duelling is allowed in the cities hence presence of the combat pets. Duelling-free areas right near the crafting stations, writ drop-off points and banks would be very nice.

A follow up question would be: Are the companions to be a part of duels?

If so they would have hit-boxes and theoretically block like bears ;)

There really does need to be dueling free areas. To make in lore friendly they could just make dueling in a city a criminal act so the guards would take care of it. Between pets and dueling big cities are a circus.

I am concerned that companions will put a damper on questing with friends. I'm also concerned that it will change the feel of the game as people run around trying to get gifts to increase the affection of their companions as opposed to helping real players/friends farm for gear and seek group content. It happened a little with antiquities... suddenly my friends were out solo scrying instead of saying "hey, what's going on today?" This will be like that except potentially persistent and ongoing forever as companion stories are expanded and new ones are added.

When I played SWTOR I actively disliked the companion mini game and was so happy ESO never had this. It's really not a "just ignore it" type of feature. If I don't want to run BG's I can just not queue up. If I don't want to run trials I can never enter one and it impacts me not at all if others do. If I don't care for housing I can never step foot in one. But with this if I want to quest through content and get all the stories you need to engage... it is a new extension of content I like in a way I don't like, not a new encapsulated system. Not to mention all the companions running around, as others have said, even if I try to ignore them myself.

It might be fine and great depending on implementation but I keep remembering how much I disliked companions in SWTOR and I do worry it will impact the feel of this game overall. Just seems like a pervasive change that is appealing to a portion of the playerbase, not the majority, and if it were me I wouldn't roll out something like that is it wasn't for the majority. But we'll see.
My #1 wish for ESO Today: Decouple achievements from character progress and tracking.

I was thinking and I totally agree, there could be an option to hide other people's pets/companions.

They should let us have our alts as companions. That way, there would be many unique companions running around instead of similar ones.

I wonder though, as we can gear companions up and train them, would we also be able to use the outfit station on them? Than we would get a more wider variety of companions.

I wonder if their appearance will change to display the style of the gear you equip on them? That would prevent the "clone" issue.

I don't think many people would actively pick a bot over their friends. On the other hand it will help out people who only have one or two friends to quest with because the bot(s) can fill the missing party slots.

I just don't see the issue with your #1. Been playing ESO for years and pets normally disappear when you go into dungeons, dolmens, or any other combat content. So, if a pet is in front of a drop-off chest or something, just move your toon a bit to the right or left and still get the x action. Maybe, it is just a drama thing that some people have an issue with pets.
