Frost Staff and Minor Brittle

Wall of Elements should not have been touched, same goes for Destructive Touch. Everyone gets immobilize immunity now. The slow on Wall of Elements is extremely useful on adds.
What if we use Elemental Susceptibility for mirroring Pierce Armor functionality? This has been suggested hundreds of times but still. Add the same magicka cost as Inner Rage ability.

Minor Brittle will force healers to use frost staff and in the process, they will lose Concussion and Off-balance.
What if we replace the Minor Vulnerability buff on Lightning Staff with Minor Brittle instead?. This will allow all the healers to keep their current weapons and will not be forced to switch to frost staff. This will also allow sets like Infallible Mage to be useful.

Ice staff has always been a tank/support tool with damage secondary and should be used that way if you really want off balance in your group have someone else use the lightning staff for it then. The game should offer more ways to play not limit the use of effects to this type of play sorry if you do not agree.

I agree with you on the Frost Staff changes but not on Minor Brittle.

However, you're right that the Shock Staff needs a better reason to exist than bombing in PvP and Off-Balance.

Minor Vulnerability has been handed out like Halloween candy to numerous different sources and that de-buff is now no longer unique to the Shock Staff.

My idea was for another new de-buff called "Superconductive" that is applied like the current Minor Brittle and that increases all elemental damage by 10%.

But, of course, in order to make Frost and Shock Staves into tools that more than simply Support characters can use, they need better selfish damage passives that can compete with the Flame Staff.

Something like +8% Critical Damage for the Frost Staff and +8% Elemental Damage for the Shock Staff would help to close that gap.

    He never was.

Minor vulnerability is tied to Concussion (outside of the skill that we've now) = Shock dot + Minor Vuln.
So ANY lightning source could made it proc but not at the same %.
SWoE is used to proc Off-Balance, not concussion, because the % of concussion on SWoE is 1%/hit which is nothing.
However the Shock glyph, alone, w/o adding passif is 20% chance.
That why healer use this combo Shock staff infuse + Shock glyph and if they want more uptime, resto charged rarely use).

I see this confusion way to often so nothing personal just wanna point it out.

So if brittle proc from chilled effect (didn't remember) = concussion and should have the same %
If it tied to the WoE, it should be 100% like the off-balance (or add the same CD than off-balance dunno).

Gonna read once more how they want to implant it, not gonna lie I've forget this part.

@Aznarb I was speaking carelessly and I'm aware of that. My broader point was that there are now far more sources of Minor Vulnerability (e.g. simply having a Warden in your party) than there used to be, which de-values the Shock Staff's contribution to a group. There are also far more sources of easy Off-Balance so the Wall of Elements proc is similarly de-valued. I would like to see a truly unique de-buff like the new Minor Brittle be attached to the Shock Staff (in addition to a self-ish DPS buff) to give more Shock Staff users a place in group compositions as roles other than Support.

Yeah that a good point. And since they have add a CD on off-balance it's way less important than it was and I see many healer (me too) who use weapon dmg or weakening instead depending content.

Also I've read how the minor brittle while work and I think they shouldn't force people to have active frost staff to made it proc, that reduce build flexibility by a lot especially since it's bad for DD, healer need resto staff and even If I made a dual frost tank worked pretty well it's was not even close to be useful enough for meta, we still need 1h&S on front bar.
So.. No one will use this I guess and it will be sad, the debuff look good and valuate a bit more frost staff is a good thing I think.
Since it's proc with chilled debuff it should proc the same. W/o a ice glyph the uptime gonna be pretty low anyway, so a Tank or Heal gonna have it back bar, that why they need to remove this weird condition.

Forgive my ignorance if my assumption is wrong, but regarding the second point, I'm not sure it will. The condition to proc brittle requires you to be actively holding the frost staff when chilled is proc'd. So assuming healers are only on their back bar elemental staff for a short period, it may not actually be a reliable way of applying brittle (If it is, ignore my comment). To me, it seems like the change is more about making frost staff be viable as a primary weapon for dps. Whether it achieves that is another question though.

The way it works on PTS atm is that the only requirement to apply brittle is that the skill that applies the chill will be activated from the Ice staff bar and will consist with any weapon swap and will work with any kind of skill that can apply chill(not only desto staff skills).

Minor Brittle currently does not proc from Elemental Weapon, Concentrated Force set and Frozen Watcher set, even if you proc Chilled via these effects with frost staff equipped and being on that bar. I assume that this is a bug (submitted a /bug ticket) but there is no response from ZoS if this is or isn't intended.

Interesting sounds like a bug. On the other hand, you can activate premafrost from back bar equipped with forst staff, switch to any other weapon to have 100% brittle duration for 15 sec.

From my tests, on dummy this provides 85%+ uptime on Minor Brittle.

There is many skill that dosent deal elemental damage tho, magic, physic disease and poison on top of them. Let's not make MagickaMeta even more meta with that kind of debuff. we need something equal to all kind of damage in my opinion. (even of MagDD also deal quite a lot of damage that arent elemental bug just magic)

Well, it got the same mechanical logic as glyphs procs, doesn't it? The related weapon must be active in order to proc the related glyph. However, consisting skills like blockade will keep procing the glyph even on bar swap.

Or just play your warden as usual and only change Maelstrom Inferno to Ice and put Frost enchant there. Winters Revenge is on the back bar anyways. This way, you have great single target and AoE uptime on Minor Brittle (non-warden healers are incapable of that).

From my tests, on dummy this provides 85%+ uptime on Minor Brittle.

Yes OFC, just wrote that to emphasize how the mechanic works. In terms of strategies on how to be most efficient, you are right. Warden healers will be very good applying Minor Brittle.

Are we sure that the way it currently works is intended by ZoS?

I think so. They are probably aware that if frost staff will have to be equipped on both bars to effective, it will be very limiting.

i doubt this very much, it should be harder to get than just backbarring. and what they originally said has conflicted this, given this statement by Gina in the pts patch notes:

"Applying Chilled while actively holding a Frost Staff now applies Minor Brittle in addition to its other effects. Note that the Staff must be on your active bar when Chilled is applied for this to proc."

yes it seems like it does proc much in the same way glyphs work on the backbar, however, this contradicts the official statement.

how it's clearly worded is: if you apply chilled with a frost staff equipped on your active bar, it will also apply brittle.

however this is not the case.

Perhaps it really is a bug as I just found out another one. The updated destruction expert passive, works with all damage shields and not only "destruction staff damage shield". Another buff for magsorcs.
