Why PVP is so broken in this game?

I would ask, if you could run a build with huge health, lasting resources, and can still drop massive damage; why arent you running something that can do all that too?

Because I don't like the specific playstyle nor have the time to do the necessary testing and see what will work best.

.... But.... Isn't that like saying you have an issue with something but refuse to do anything about it?

I feel like, this is why there's struggling going on (not necessarily for you but for people in general) that they're not maximazing their own potential?

I have good resource management and damage but lack a lot in dmg mitigation but counter-balance that with cloak and roll-dodging. But I never said that I have a problem with my build. I am talking about other builds that both have high dmg, great resource regen and INSANE dmg mitigation.

I understand, and I'm assuming we are not talking about cheating right? (Like if we were talking cheating then I got no answers)

As for straight up mitigation; could you be a bit more specific so I know what to look at? I.e. are we talking just standing there? Blocking? Healing? LoS? Streak/cloak?

I honestly gave up the moment I saw an entire army of 10+ people trying to take down 1 guy but cant because he is immortal, killing them 1 by 1.

I am sorry if I hurt anyone feelings, but that is 100% not skill but abuse of broken mechanics :disappointed:

That's ZoS even remotely allow this broken stuff to happen, already prove how neglected the PVP scene is, I've never had such a bad PVP experience in my life and I've played hundreds of PVP games in my gaming life.

This is simply a whole new level of imbalance, its exactly the same as playing Diablo 3 and going from zero to hero the moment you finish your set items, there its PVE, here its PVP.

Hey I'm one of the guys that you described. Surviving a 1v10 and completing the 1v10 rarely happens, but I can indeed pull it off if everything is in my favor. That means:

    1) My enemies absolutely do not know what to do
    2) I'm playing without any mistakes
    3) I'm using certain setups that allow me to pull that off
    4) No lag or cc bug
    5) Luck and luck

This game is not balanced when it comes to builds, I'll throw that out first. But it hasn't been that way until Greymoor dropped. What I mean by that is in the world of theory-crafting and outnumbered PvP, you have to make sacrifices. If you want more damage, you need to sacrifice survivability and sustain, and vice versa. However, Greymoor introduced certain sets that allow players to ignore that drawback. They can simply build mega tanky/high sustain and rely on damage from a certain set, or build full damage and rely on sustain from a certain set. I'll leave that to you to discover, but that is essentially why theory-crafting is at its lowest right now - lots of builds that don't require sacrifices are surfacing.

Back to the original post, I can definitely guarantee you that not every single person in that 10 man group were optimized for PvP. I can also guarantee you that not every single person in that 10 man group executed their combo perfectly. When I run into just ONE PLAYER who knows what he's doing, I will get shut down immediately. The point is, it's not just about builds, it's about the player as well. You can throw a "broken build" on someone, and still have him completely dead in a 1v3 because he hasn't perfected his game. Whether that's imbalanced or not, is up to your personal opinion, but regardless of anyone's opinion a truth is a truth.

I hope that explains it for you. Cheers

P/S: In my opinion, this is the best patch for new PvPers to join because the game is at its lowest in skill difference. Builds have reduced the gap between experienced and inexperienced players by a huge margin. You can have an average player kill better players now with the right build, which rarely happened before at all.

If Greymoor has made ESO extra plus unbalanced, then it should be fixed, one day, in the future, when the devs have the time and the will to do it. But people have complained about imbalance almost always, and also always claimed that some very good gamers are exploiters. I'm only opposed to the last claim.

PSA: life is not always fair...

but yeah, zos has definitely underperformed in key areas of game creation and management...

the hammer and insufferable lag around bruma and d-claw pretty much say it all...

I'm still trying to figure out the ayleid well nerf - i mean, wtf was that about...I liked that 10% health buff for a half hour...

I had those well locations memorized man, now - who even cares...

Just a wild guess, but the fact that when someone just quits or "gave up" when witnessing something they feel isn't possible is the primary reason thy are generally on the X side of things with the topic of 1vX.
Make Rush of Agony "Monsters only." People should not be consecutively crowd controlled in a PvP setting. Period.

Maybe leave the group of 10 and start going solo or duo. That would be a good way to understand how player skill and awareness is more important then gear. It's like 70% skill, 20% gear, 10% luck.

LOL, what isn't wrong with PvP in ESO? Is there anything that actually does work?

The backend servers don't want you to PvP. The general combat mechanics in ESO don't want you to PvP. The horrible state class balance is in doesn't want you to PvP. Some classes are even designed counter to even working in PvP.

PvP in ESO is literal skill vomit all over the screen. It's dominated by instant cast, area-of-effect skills, that do both high damage and critical CC. If you came to ESO expecting a solid PvP system you've been lied to and I'm not even sure if you could consider PvP an afterthought anymore. It's more a "what's PvP?" response from the devs.

I went into pvp once to get vigor for my hybrid dk. And I died. Real fast. So I tried it again. And died again.

Instead of getting mad about dying and cursing the game, I turned it into a game. The game was to see if I could stay alive longer than the previous round. Hahah. I’d get soo close to beating my last round, running around in circles then die, that it was actually hilarious to me. True story.

After many deaths, I finally got high enough rank to unlock vigor! A few weeks later, the swap it with rapids. Ah well. Haha

The skill is in the theory crafting and putting a awesome build together using what the game offers... and then and even then, a no pvping scrub wouldn't be able to use the build effectively.

PvP in ESO is usually a small group or at times more, pummeling thru one guy at a time, or overwhelming a smaller group. Then when they hit into a 1vX build they cry folly....

Avoid the 1vX guys or plan accordingly.

    __________________________Backstories:_________________________

Ras Kalik the Vestige, a renown Redguard warrior; He has been blessed to save Tamriel from Molag Bal’s destructive Planemeld while reuniting the Five Companions. His further accomplishments after defeating Molag Bal, has been to stop the destruction of Morrowind, the Clockwork City, return order to the isle of Summerset and create a new king in Wrothgar and a queen in Elsywer. These events have made him a living legend and continue to lead him into new adventures throughout Tamriel, as well as into the hearts of many ladies including the Elf Queen, Aryenn. Over many years of adventurous travels, Ras Kalik had become a loner, until he re-visited his homeland of Alik'r.

Alik'r and it's cities were overrun by the undead Ra-Netu and therefore he made an allegiance with Alik'r's own Ash'abah tribe. These Ash'abah with his help, cleansed the city of Sentinel in Alik'r desert and it's surrounding areas of the undead brought to life by the Withered Hand. After rescuing Sentinel from the undead zombies, King Fahara’jad’s personal bodyguard the Goliath of Hammerfell, who was given this name by Imperials in the region; was asked to assist the tribe after learning of the defeat of the Withered Hand to the Ash'abah. Kalik promised Goliath he would task him with fighting living enemies on the battlefield if he so desired. Goliath being a Yokudan warrior wields a massive sword in respect to the Ansei, a gift given by the Imperial, Cinan Tharn. Not many soldiers are able to wield double two handed weapons, but Goliath loves to get up and personal in a fight, so he also carries a giant maul, both weapons laced with magical flames.

Jux Blackheart is a master thief that masquerades as a Bard at the Sisters of the Sands inn, with his younger sidekick Lucky Hunch for pilfering and gambling during this time. Jux was known to infiltrate any towns bank vault he came across and even delved into Ayelid ruins without detection. Kalik can vividly recall the night he met the famed thief. Jux found himself rummaging thru a slightly inebriated Kalik’s pocket for too long, on a full-mooned night and because of his greed and the glimmer of his golden armor in the moonlight. He lost his left pinky fingertip as a lesson! But in return, he gained a new friend, as it was his first time since a child being caught red-handed...

Upon arrival back in the Alik'r after many moons of adventuring, Ras Kalik ventures to Bergama. Visiting The Winking Jackal, he runs into Jux Blackheart, who introduces him to the coin game Crowns vs Forebearers (Heads vs Tails) and Golden Dwemer (RBG).... Jux constantly takes gold from the unfortunate thru theft or gambling, his biggest gambling victim is actually his partner in crime known as Lucky Hunch the Gambler. Lucky doesn't mind losing any gold coins to Jux... as Jux saved him from Altmer slavers in Summerset, by stealing a key and sending him on a boat to the mainland years prior. Lucky spent years in slavery with Khajiits in Summerset and picked up the art of subterfuge, using illusion magic disguises and stealing there.

Kaotik Von’Daemon an outcast, and a half-caste between a Breton mother and a Redguard father. Kaotik become a pariah due to his conjuration of Daedra pets. He was taught healing magic during his childhood years by his Breton mother. His father due to Redguard customs exiled him from the desert, sending him by wagon caravan to be a soldier in the war in Cyrodiil. He happened to meet Kalik while traveling from Alik'r, during this long caravan ride the caravan he was in was ambushed in Bangkorai by a group of bandits. Kalik by chance was also traveling thru this area on his Auridon Warhorse (which was bestowed to him by his friend, Darien Gautier). During this ambush, Kalik was able to rescue five hostages from the bandits. Kaotik was the first rescued, and Ras Kalik also recruited him to be in the Ash'abah tribe. These core Ash'abah tribesmen may never be seen together in travel as they partake in their own adventures but they always know what each other is doing; as they frequent a hideout in northern Bankorai. Their hideout an old Orc castle ruin, is kept watch by Nuzhimeh and she passes messages written between them, and frequently they also enjoy her company and her bed.

The other men rescued were a Dunmer banker, an Imperial mercenary and two other soldiers, an Imperial and a Breton Knight, stating proudly he was an Akavir descendent. One of the Imperials, Cinan, claimed to be related to Abnur Tharn the Battlemage of the Imperial Elder Council (One of Ras Kalik's mentors in the Five Companions). Cinan Tharn was really Abnur's drunkard treasure hunting illegitimate son. He was caught smuggling artifacts out of the Ayleid ruins in Cyrodiil and the elder of the two Imperials was Tyrus Septim a retired Imperial navy battle-mage (now a Lycan mercenary living in the city of Rimmen) and guard to the Tharn family. As much as Abnur Tharn hated his half-sister Euraxia, he dislikes his bas†ard son Cinan more. Tyrus now a ruffian and privateer had been paid by Abnur Tharn to watch over Cinan as much as possible. Cinan Tharn a drunkard, loves to drink at least a quarter barrel of Nord mead before he raids various delves and dungeons for relics to sell on the black market. Cinan also plans to one day, run an illegal gambling ring... which he thinks will net him more gold for his wares.

The Dunmer captive shackled to the Imperials looked familiar to Kalik from his time in Morrowind.... and he recognized him as Tythis Andromo a House Telvanni slave-owner and banker from Vvardenfell. During a rough interrogation to Tythis, Ras Kalik learnt why the bandits accosted him. The racist Dunmer was providing slaves as soldiers for the Three Banner War. The bandits were trying to negotiate a lucrative ransom for Andromo and the Imperials.... Kalik did not need any of this gold and he could never set Tythis free as he did with the two Imperial soldiers. His past involvement with slavery and war crimes, made Kalik's blood boil. He chose not to execute Tythis, as he figured the worse punishment for this former rich and opulent slave owner, is to now be an imprisoned servant for Ras Kalik and the tribe.

Herzog Zwei the Genesis a reknown Imperial/Akavirri battle-mage. His roots going back to Akavir through his mother’s bloodline. (His mother is descended from the Akaviri, through Versidue-Shae, and his Imperial father met her in Hakoshae, while traveling) Herzog earned the nickname "the Genesis" from his father as a child, as he was his mother's first born child, and last, as she tragically died in child-birth.

Herzog was seeking to purchase an artifact from Cinan Tharn, before their capture and was meeting Tyrus while in Rimmen, who introduced him to Cinan. This artifact being the Ayelid artifact; the sword Sinweaver. After their rescue and the exchange of gold to Cinan for the sword he decided to slip away before Ras Kalik could question who he was, and why the Akavir descendant really wanted that sword. Herzog was headed to Nagastani — An Ayleid ruin in eastern Cyrodiil. He had read in scrolls that the Sword would give him magical powers to meet his mothers spirit, if he performed an Ayleid ritual at an old shrine hidden there. Equipped with the artifact sword, he was off to start his own adventure but Ras Kalik, did indeed notice the sword however and instead sent a letter to Jux Blackheart (whom also was interested in Ayleid treasures), to attempt to find Herzog and acquire the sword. (*Azani Blackheart in Elder Scroll's Oblivion is Jux's descendant some 747 years later)

And so the Redguard, Imperial and Akaviri men parted ways ... While Ras Kalik went off to Elsweyr to encounter the latest threat to Tamriel, with Abnur Tharn and Sai Sahan - - DRAGONS!! Little did Ras Kalik know a few people were awaiting him in Senchal besides Sai. A necromancer survived his attack on the Withered Hand, while in Alik'r. The necromancer known as Auriek Siet'ka is also following him to the land of the Khajiits and Cacique the Sage of Ius a Shaman mystic who has become attuned spiritually with Tu'whacca (a Redguard God) and Ius (the Animal God), after being burned severely by the escaped dragons in Elsywer, is awaiting his arrival also. Aurik is a soldier of the Daggerfall Covenant that was introduced to necromancy while in the military, even though this magicka art is not spoken of openly by most of the Military leaders. He came to Alik'r and worked with the Withered Hand before Ras Kalik intervened on their plans. After the defeat of the Withered Hand, he aligned with the Worm Cult, and is constantly adapting and perfecting his necromantic arts.

After his journey to Rimmen, Kalik heads south to Senchal, in the southern regions of Elyswer. This new adventure will also put him on a path to meet a strange Redguard man. The stranger which was infected with an untreated Peyrite disease and also was the exiled from the Order of the New Moon cult, due to his sickness. He originally joined the cult to worship Laatvulon, the green dragon, mistakenly thinking it was the Daedric prince Peyrite. This confused and suffering cultist is known as Tsar al-Bomba and he is on a path to spread the disease. He was originally infected in Orccrest while recruiting members there. Can Ras Kalik and the shaman Cacique cure this poor soul, only time will tell. Little does Tsar al-Bomba know, that his infection is tied to Vampirism, and eventually the desire for blood will take over his mind. Senchal also offers Kalik his latest love interest... Aeliah. Whom he fondly led thru battles with the Dragonguard.

After the trek thru the heat, tropical and desert climate of Northern and Southern Elyswer, Ras Kalik heads north to the cold mountain range of Skyrim. His companion friend Lyris beckons for him with a letter sent by crow...

Movárth Piquine - a former vampire hunter (now infected), within the Fighter's Guild (and a secretive necromancer) was in Skyrim working with the Morthaal Guard. On a patrol mission he was caught in Frewien's ice curse outside of Morthaal with the frozen undead. Movárth's vampiric infection kept him from becoming an undead minion to the curse. He was able to use necromantic ice-magic to encase himself safely until he was freed with Freiwen, when the Vestige Ras Kalik broke the curse.

Uri Ice-Heart - brother of Urfon Ice-Heart. The twin sons of Atli and Oljourn Ice-Heart. The Ice-Heart family are originally from Markarth but now reside on the Jerall Mountain range near Cyrodiil, with their younger sister Araki. The twins had joined the Winterborn Reachmen while living in Markarth. Urfon pushed west to Orsinium with the Winterborn Clan, leaving his family behind. Uri stayed behind with his parents and sister to live in the family cabin for safety, avoiding the Vampire plague infiltrating the Reach. After news reaches him and he hears of Urfon's death... Uri leaves and heads home and is seeking vengeance. Meanwhile, his sister has also moved on to Windhelm to join the Fighter's guild. He will visit his sister, once before going to seek vengeance and she will craft him armor mixed with ice, called Stalhrim armor. Uri fearing death, after his brother's passing, falls victim to the convincing talk of Movárth at a Nordic tavern, and will also becomes a vampire.

It would be one thing if you were like "I tried one of MalcolM's builds and I immediately became a god, clearly something is not balanced" but you don't actually know what your opponent was "exploiting", you just assume they were because you lost a fight that should have been a cakewalk.

Yes because High Sustain, High DMG, High Mitigation through imbalanced sets, skills and CP is definitely 5killZ.

But everyone can use same sets/build if they so want and spend time farming them, so.. yeah.

    To the Original Poster:

Fact is though, many people copy the exact same builds from some PVP streamers, they still do not that well in it - just due to lack of experience and patience.

One needs patience and time to learn all classes/specs strengths and weaknesses what comes to 1vs1 situations and the 1vX playing takes most time to get right, routines and movement (LoS) being the most biggest damage "mitigation" since randoms do give CC immunity to you while others do their ultimates separately and most of them end up missing or doing little damage and you pick targets down one by one in chokepoints and so on.

Fact number 2 is, if there is even TWO equally skilled players against the 1vXer, it will end up on the 2 winning it. It is just math at that point. 1vs1 will end up most often in a draw in such a situation without going full Legend rules duel.

If 10 people gets killed by 1, it just means the 10 were inexperienced and not prepared. Some people not even heal themselves by HP can see some not even have food/drink buffs on at IC event with having like 19k hp with Battle Spirit 5k free hp buff on them at CP campaigns. And you expect such 10 players to win against experienced pvp player? Cannot judge balance because of such differences in experience and preparation.

If you want a game where 10 such players automatically wins against 1 experienced player.. then that means 11 same kind of players should win against 10 automatically.. so it would be just a game of numbers? Now where is the fun and skill in such a game? I mean, everyone would just go after defeat: "lets make our group even bigger!!" instead of just training personal gaming skills.

Getting better should be a goal in a game right? Not just recruiting a huge group to swarm other players, right? Or am i that old in my beliefs already that one should work (at both pve and pvp) for their success?

And about balance between classes/specs, it is not perfect - but it has nothing to do with 10 dying to 1, that 1 can be any class/spec and 10 can be anything also if they are just not experienced enough. Current power of Proc sets have actually made the inexperienced ones damage potential more close to the experienced ones, so solo & small scale playing is harder than before in most scenarios if enemies are even average tier and not total yolo without even food buffs and no self heals kind of players.

About gear balance, as said - it is same gear for everyone willing to farm/spend time on it. ZOS has made it actually easier for those who even wanna learn basics to kill experienced people. But still, do not expect to kill with gear even with decently large pug zerg against a Discord group that coordinates their ultidump & burst. Against such needs a same type of group, so avoid them. No need to chase people to inside towers/houses in closed space and getting farmed there - experience will show such groups/players and makes you go "nah, i think i do not chase those people" even if it looks like you got 10-20 of your own alliance going after them. It's a trap. :joy:

People who not give up on learning will get experience and can have good fun (when the game works) at ESO pvp. Dying a lot at start is normal, many dying to 1 experienced player is normal. What people do after that realization is up to them - to train and evolve to fight them, or.. to avoid them. Choice is yours. :)

we literally hear these same complaints every pvp event.

pvp itsn't broken. you just have to learn how to build into it. don't bring a pve setup when your going up against players who are setup for pvp.

your veteran pvpers will spend many weeks to months perfecting their build to find the right balance. those cookie cutter youtube pvp builds only work if you have become battle hardened (mastering combat).

what has ZOS done to prevent this?

-they nerfed healing by 10%, which has made a huge impact on killing players.
-they increased most damage sets significantly.

TDLR: learn to play pvp. avoid joining the zergs. practice 1vXing or small group (2-4 players).
Praying the Daedric Gods will make Cyrodiil great again.

Else sums it up well in this video.

    I will simply say:

No one accuses the Irish farmer of exploiting as he farms potatoes. Can the farmer farm 10 potatoes? Yes, he is a potato farmer and has learnt all there is to know about farming potatoes!
Can the potatoes farm the farmer? No they are potatoes. Can a farmer farm a farmer? Maybe, how about 2 farmers? Most likely!

The moral of the story is it's better to bring a potato farmer to a potato farming event and don't be upset if you are potato being farmed at a potato farming event.

If you see a lvl 18 run faster then a horse pre-nerf rapids and a group of 18 people can't even do 1 damage... it is broken exploiting the game

(this was the case last time i did PvP which was several months ago. don't know if it has been fixed, but i doubt it. It probably got worse)

lvl 18 vampire with speed gear + speed potion - its about 40% movement speed just running not sprinting + if he was NB - magicka weapon morph also allows to move faster just sneaking ... no need to be invisible - vamp passive remove sneak move penalty - imagine now 160 cp with snow traders or wild hunt ring ... :) run Forest ! run!

Yes. But it was when snow trader and wild hunt did not exist yet and he/she wat no vampire (and was sprinting) and was a DK and a lizard folk.

And nobody could also kill him. In the middle of a group no damage while everybody was pounding (well maybe he dropped like 5%)

I also thought speed was capped at some point. And i don't think you can outrun a max speed sprinting horse with (the pre nerf) rapid

"I am a nightblade. Blending the disciplines of the stealthy agent and subtle wizard, I move unseen and undetected, foil locks and traps, and teleport to safety when threatened, or strike like a viper from ambush. The College of Illusion hides me and fuddles or pacifies my opponents. The College of Mysticism detects my object, reflects and dispels enemy spells, and makes good my escape. The key to a nightblade's success is avoidance, by spell or by stealth; with these skills, all things are possible."

I strongly disagree about no-cp being better. Its a matter of taste imho.

By better I mean that it can be balanced.

The problem with CP is it is largely designed for PvE and even for PvE they struggle to balance it (hence the endless nerf/buff/nerf cycle).

However when it is then moved into PvP it just becomes an impossible task (they'd have to do it like WAR Online and balance for PvP then build PvE around it - which actually worked really well, but isn't something most Devs seem to want to do - and even then the sheer number of permutations CP allows makes things ridculously complicated in a class vs class, build vs build sense).

PvP is unbalanced becouse some classes are unbalanced. It highly favors the "buy" classes as Warden and Necromancer

And highly damage classes as MagSorc and StamBlade
I meme, but my memes are so truthful they hurt
    -Elder Nightblades Online
Want competitive pvp while being outnumbered? Tough luck, the devs clearly said you have to die in those situations

Knowledge and having the skill to use it is so OP.

Yes because High Sustain, High DMG, High Mitigation through imbalanced sets, skills and CP is definitely 5killZ.

Yes because some are smart enough to use what the game gives them, these same people will still mop you up in basic gear.

Stam nb? For the second year now, this is the worst class for pvp.

Thats a nice joke. Stamnb was a very popular class last patch and still is in the current one...worst class for two years in PvP, when there were classes like magicka necro and magden like a year ago.

Honestly, let's get it straight. No other class can live and kill dozens of players as well as the Warden or the Necromancer. These are absolutely imbalanced classes. Even the DK is no longer comparable to what these two new classes can do. I've never seen anything like this in other classes. These two classes have each skill line specialized for damage, defense and heal. That is, they have as many as 2 lines that allow them to survive. The first four classes do not have clearly specialized lines, which is why they are often only good as one role. I'm afraid the time will come and the old classes will need a total rework.

If you can't beat them join them. That's why its called meta. Once the plebs start jumping on the bandwagon that's when cool *** gets nerfed, and we wind up with all classes and sets being the same.

I've been months away from the game and decided to check the "performance improvements". In PVP, critical rush does not work, leap does not work, silver leash does not work. All gap closers are bugged. I thought it was a bug in the IC event, but then the same issues happened in battleground. All my friends already left because the game is broken. The company releases new chapters before fixing basic stuff. This is the end for me.

I honestly don't understand why would they ignore those things, the game is doing more than well, why not direct some budget?

I think that while Cyrodiil is not playable, there is no point in wasting time on balance in pvp. Yes, we have BG and IС, but so far the most important pvp content cannot be played normally.
