They said "no new character slot", not "no new class", no?

This means no new class more or less.

As with every class release they give another character slot.

It would make sense that "no new char slot" literally means no new class, as why would they just randomly add char slots if there wasn't a....new class like in the past?

It does not mean that literally. Literally, it means that they are not going to add a new character slot. I also think that it was in the context of upcoming content, 2020 and 2021, not for the rest of the game.

They don't have to add a new character slot to add a class. They have been, and people assume that will always be the case, but it does not have to be. If they want to add a class, without adding a slot, they can.

For example, they could add a new class and a slot token in 2022... or a new class and slot on 2022.

Or even 2021, i mean they said they were'nt planig to add new class in fall, 2-3 months before morrowind reveal

What they are saying is yes there will be a new class, but no new character slot. Instead they will add a class change token that will cost more than a new character slot.

Matt and Rich literally explained it: database size. It's not about those who won't make new toons, it about those who will.

I guarantee they could fix the database character issue... if they got rid of all the bot accounts, and prevented new ones from being made by implementing counter measures to deter new accounts.

But hey, that bot account is more important to zos, than my 1500 for the character slot, and the training for my horse, or the motifs from the crown store ... all for the sake of boasting a new player in their numbers.

Yeah, but they have done two new character classes. They have also done two new skill lines, combat and non-combat. They do zones, dungeons, arenas, and sets all the time. I doubt they will ever add a race (lore reasons). I am thinking it is time for a new weapon. 2021 could be the year of the Jedi Light Saber!

Seems like ESO is dying, new class is vitol for any MMORPG updates

I wouldn't go so far as to say it is dying, but we MAY be slinking into maintenance mode. Some serious warning sighs:
    • No new race added in 6 years (since launch).
    • No new weapons added in 6 years (since launch).
    • Too few character slots to counter lack of replayability/unchanging combat system.
    • No 3rd/4th morph added to abilities in 6 years.
    • No meaningful separation of PVE/PVP balance in 6 years.
    • New classes much less often than other MMO's.
    • CP system hasn't changed meaningful in 4+ years.

ESO is a great game and the core strengths of the questing, lore, crafting, and other systems are fun to engage with. However you cannot run a successfull MMO in the long term without meaningful progress. This includes progress on the side of the developers continuing to add things like new classes, weapons, and character slots to allow people the chance to try something new without deleting what they already invested in, or having something new available to try in the first place.

For all its strengths, the game cannot survive without a sense of progression and "newness." Otherwise you are basically playing housing/dress-up/credit card swipe simulator not an MMORPG.

Also, to the people saying "I hope we have no new class because balance" this is basically like saying "I hope we starve because the food tastes bad." Or put another way, basically giving the devs and excuse to continue not adding replay value to the game.

This can only further hurt the game, which makes me question these poster's motives.

I realy think less is more sometimes.
Change for the sake of changing never works.
Imagine having to refarm all the weapons from the sets you stored because there's a new weapon line.

With the number of Slots already available, it is conceivable that they could introduce Several more classes, and not add more slots.

    IMHO

The thing is, if people really want more character slots, they can just buy another account.
Its not ideal for the player of course because of ESO+, Chapters and DLCs etc.
But the end result is there are some people that do this and can buy up to 18 slots anyway.
Based on what I have seen people say in the forums, this is not a trivial number either.

    Remove warden and necromancer.

Rather keep adding new guild skill lines like psijic.

Please no new meta pvp stamina class (to better sell chapter) that every try hard will roll on it to feel better about themselves.

    Thank you.

I want 10 more character slots

No more classes (or at least I don't care)
Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

Sure we can, but we shouldn't have to, and it disadvantages Steam players who want more characters than the pretty comparatively stingy limit allows.

Including live server characters and ones I've made on the PTS and taken character creation and other pics of, I've 164 characters in total, and I'm an RPer and writer.

WHile I strongly agree, how do "legitimate" accounts get made then?

Legitimate accounts would have room for character slots, if they eliminate the bot accounts taking up space on the database. I guess I should have been clear.. deter botters from making new accounts.

I doubt there will be a new class anymore and I'm okay with that. Warden was originally supposed to be part of the original game but they scrapped it. However, because we knew of its existence there was a large and consistent player demand that they finish the class and make it available and they decided to do so as a selling point for the first "chapter," Morrowind. The inclusion of the Warden was the tipping point for a lot of players who may not have bought the chapter otherwise.

Necromancer has been consistently demanded by the playerbase since launch of the game as well. At first ZOS said there was going to be no such thing. But player demand did not let up and remained consistent over the years so they finally decided to include it as a selling point for Elsweyr.

No other classes have really been asked for so it doesn't make a lot of sense for ZOS to crank out new ones beyond this. They have enough trouble with class balance as it is so why give themselves new headaches?
