I finally get why people were crying when they switch rapids with vigor....

I almost never PvP but I was levelling a new toon yesterday and decided to try and do the daily for the big XP. I play a battle ground and I am level 10 so not so many skills. But I do my best and score the highest on my team by a long way but it doesn't matter. Two other players on my team launch a torrent of abuse against the 4th player on the team and me. Minus the swearing and name calling they basically said, "You don't know your role" (I'm level 10!), "you have the wrong gear" (level 10!!), "dont queue until you know how to play" (how do you learn until you do it?) and "I never want to team with you again as your skills are insufficient" (much more polite that what was really said but the feeling here was mutual and I put them on ignore after the match so the vile verbal assaults would stop).

It made me want to uninstall the entire game. The first time they abused me after a fight where we got wiped I asked why? (On a side note there was one player on another team that could easily 1 v 4 us which made the entire game difficult and he ended up with something like 21 kills) What had I done wrong? They merely informed me that I was insufficiently experienced and intellectually developed. Remember I had by far the top score on the team at the end, Imagine how much abuse if I actually had a lower score then them.

And so now you want me to put up with 20 hours of this toxic hell for every new character just so my horse moves faster than a crawl?

I don't like it when people threaten to quit over a change, so I wont.

I have done two BGs, one was fun, one was not for the exact reasons you had.

Also, there are different types of BGs, and for most of them, kills are the ends to the means, not the goal. So capture the flag or whatever the objective is, killing as needed along the way.

I keep doing lots of random BGs on my lowbie characters and apart from those 2 players I mentioned in my post at the 1st page of the thread, I have not met any more toxic players as of yet. So no, it's not "toxic hell", it's just unfortunately you had very bad luck with your team. If those guys have time to sit in chat and verbally abuse teammates, they're definitely not contributing to the game themselves. Some people are toxic for the sake of it, not because _you_ are doing something wrong. So don't be upset, and don't give them the satisfaction of you quitting.

You’ve all known it’s coming for a while, you get 4.4k for handing writs in per char per day, why are you not at least not being cheap and spend 250 gold per day levelling the speed of your mounts already in preparation ? I’m confused. It takes a few seconds more to train a mount as hand a writ in and after 2 months they’re all maxed and you never have to bother again. Then if u think u might want an alt in future why not just sit it outside a stable and speed it everyday again in prep ?

Because even at top speed, we still use Rapids. So, not a solution.

The only real place you need to use rapids is in cyrodiil tho, 60 speed is not a holdback in pve on an alt , so that’s kinda defeating the point as you need to be in cyrodiil to level the rapids?

Getting to dragons before they die (especially during events). Getting to Harrowstorms before they're finished.

There's 2 PVE examples. I'm sure there are more.

I use my main for harrowstorms and they’re easy to get to without rapids , and dragons are dead except for events, plus who makes alts to chase dragons? Lol just sounding more unbelievable to me

Many, many, many people play this game on multiple characters. Just because you don't doesn't mean it's "unbelievable"

I play it on 6, I have rapids on 4, now they have mounts with speed varying from 30-40 and by the time the change comes in they’ll be close to max, if you are maxing alts to do writs you don’t need rapids on top of 60 it’s just overkill. If u want to chase dragons on lvl 23 alts you ain’t gonna have much joy 😂, if you are dedicated enough to make the alt into a proper char cp160+ then a tiny bit of pvp to Get rapids ain’t gonna hurt

Which new player is going to get that? Have you seen how many mundus stones Greymooor has?

What new player is going to get Rapids, either? Even if I did pvp, I certainly wouldn't have gone at lv10 just because I got that silly mail. And I didn't even know about Rapids until months (at least) later.

I've still never used it. And until these recent "OMG, why are they making this switch?!?!?" threads, I'd never seen it advertised by anyone as Utterly Necessary For PvE.

Actually. Starting at level 10 is the perfect time. There is much more than fighting other players in Cyrodiil: town questing zones (some towns, you don't need them under your alliance control), repairing keeps with off-alliance controlled resources that degrade the walls to a %, dropping oil on seigers while the dedicated PVP ers defend and fight them, or be cheezy and run to newrby seiges to be an extra hand doing damage (low levels get a high bonus that people don't get), and always join a 30 day campaign b/c you'll earn the AP to get the 50 transmuted + rewards of worthy on you way to unlock Rank 5 (plus earn extra skill points)... Its too stereotyped mentality to think you can only earn AP by killing another player in Cyrodiil or IC (capture flags in IC, move onto next one when it passes 50% flip to your faction color)

Point being, Vigor serves all Stamina based characters, and they do need it; whether they use the skill with a healer in group or not. Rapids is convenience that can be substituted by many other sources; whereas, stamina healing isnt.

The biggest issue isn't that we'd have to do some pvp to get rapids.

It's that we did what was required of our characters to get a skill. ZoS is now changing it (and actually taking away the skill) if we don't have a high enough alliance rank.

This is unprecedented.

It's not how the Maelstrom weapons worked. They didn't take away what you already earned... they made a slightly better version available in the old content (I didn't like that either, but I digress)

Even back in the day when they re-arranged skill lines on characters and moved skills around, they didn't take the skill away from you right away (until you respecced your character). My DK tank has never respecced his chains (so it's got a little lock emblem on it over the usable skill). If I were to take the skill point out of that skill, I would then have to re-level the base morph to get the one I use.

But they've never just immediately and directly taken away a skill that we did all the requirements to get. And for what? To sell more alliance war skill lines? to sell more horse training upgrades? It's a cash grab. plain and simple. And while, yes, it doesn't violate the EULA and TOS that we all read and agreed to. It's shady. and it's disappointing for a game that I've spent a lot of time playing, that I enjoy playing.

All 36 characters of mine are already 60/60/60 on their mounts, so I won't be buying horse upgrades. I won't be buying skill line upgrades, because I think they're a ripoff, and I can't buy them with gold. I will probably take several of my alt into Cyrodiil once they start giving double AP for the "testing" their doing, even though I'll just be repairing walls or zerg surfing w/ a resto staff.

Do you now understand the vitriol and anger towards this change? It's an unprecedented move designed to make people spend more money in their cash shop. And while not illegal, I think is immoral.

But all the PVPers in there are just "lul... more fresh meat in Cyro for me to gank... hehe" as if ganking an under-geared, under-equipped, under-leveled PVE player shows any shred of skill

Was thinking of making a magcro now.... Seriously, how am I going to level him up in the Alliance rank to unlock rapid? How is he going to move from keep to keep where tp is impossible? How am I going to level up Mages guild?

These changes look like a nightmare.
