Maintenance for the week of January 6:
· [COMPLETE] NA megaservers for maintenance – January 8, 4:00AM EST (9:00 UTC) - 8:00AM EST (13:00 UTC)
· [COMPLETE] EU megaservers for maintenance – January 8, 9:00 UTC (4:00AM EST) - 13:00 UTC (8:00AM EST)

Why is there no compensation?

Your wallet aka subscription wont matter. Just to give a little insight, the smaller Crown Discord we are on sold in the first week of Nightfall Crates 4500 Crates, the Crate Addon Tracker tracked in the first Month 21.000 Sold Crates.

Guess how much a few hundred less subscribers are.

And with that they continue encouraging such a despicable business model as loot boxes are.

The point has been made that according to the TOS, they don't have to.

So what? Why wouldn't they? ESO Plus doesn't cost them anything, it's like they're printing their own money.
Or a 100 crowns or so, again, they print their own money.
But it is a way to show they care, that they take it seriously and is somewhat of an incentive to get on top of this issue and do it better next time.
The comparison with a restaurant is an apt one.
Any service for money that you can access basically 24/7 that suffers outages that last a day should offer some form of compensation.
Every time things like this happen, people unsubscribe, move on to another game.
Keeping those people on board, with some form of compensation, is just plain good marketing.
And it doesn't really hit their bottom line in any way, if it does, it will mostly be a plus.
'Yeah, the game has outages sometimes, but you get comped, so it's okay.'
    versus
'Yeah, the game is nice, when it's online, if it isn't, well, you've paid, so that's fine with them.'
Which of the two is going to convince people to shell out for this game?
When Alyennnah is not here, she's probably crafting. Quite possibly at Alyennah's Crafting in Wayrest. Or maybe she's out there, looking for new materials, recipes and styles to use in crafting. She wants to craft all the things.

Once a month or more, players can't log in to the game for almost a day.
And many people pay for subscriptions.
    Why is there no compensation?
People pay for a service that they don't get, which is called fraud in any country.

How much would it cost the company to divert people from actual work to figure out how to get the less than 50 cents worth of compensation to the subbed players? Since ESO Plus comes down to 50 cents a full day.... So if the maintenance lasts for a full 24 hours, the players who sub deserve $0.50 worth of compensation. The amount would go down if you prorated it for less than a full 24 hours, so......

Perhaps you could investigate the possibility of a lawsuit over it. However the Terms of Service that people agreed to is kind of specific about what is required of ZOS....
    6. Availability of Services and Content; Game Maintenance, Patches, Updates; Termination of Services

ZeniMax does not guarantee that any Services will be accessible or available at all times, in all countries and/or all geographic locations, at any given time, or that ZeniMax will continue to offer any particular Services for any particular length of time. ZeniMax also reserves the right to refuse Your request(s) to acquire Content, and to limit or block any request to acquire Content, including, but not limited to, Downloadable Content and Game Mods, for any reason.

ZeniMax may patch, update, or modify a Service at any time with or without notice to You. Notwithstanding the foregoing, ZeniMax has no obligation to make available any patches, updates or modifications or correct any errors or defects in the Services. ZeniMax makes no guarantees about the persistence or availability of any user names or other personas at any time and assumes no liability for lost or deleted Account data. Except as prohibited by applicable law and subject to the Statutory Obligations (as defined in Section 1), You agree that ZeniMax will not be liable for any interruption of the Services, delay or failure to perform, any loss of Content (including, but not limited to, UGC, Game Mods and Downloadable Content), and/or Account data (including, but not limited to, Character data) resulting from any causes whatsoever. ZeniMax reserves the right to offer new Services, change and/or discontinue certain Services at any time in its sole discretion.

If ZOS doesn't patch the game, they get rants and threats and omg cancel my sub because outrage and drama. If they do maintenance and patch they get rants and thread and omg cancel my sub because outrage and drama. They literally can't win no matter what.

It should be a common decency IMO to at least give a small token of apology, a small gift, anything would really do just to assure player about their commitment to provide a premium MMO. It would reflect that they care about players.

But ZOS simply don't care if you miss your daily things and play time. They care about money. That is my impression.

So you know that regularly the game goes down for maintenance for an indeterminate amount of time and yet have a history of continuing to give them money for a subscription. Do you see the logical disconnect in that anyone would just ask “If the service was bad then why did you go back?”

They could always give us some enlightenment + additional tickets during an event. This wouldn't affect the economy and still be a nice compensation.

11 hours of maintenance followed by (at least) another 4-6 hours of being unable to log into the server, basically taking away an entire day of play for most EU players, during an event, is frankly something to complain about.

If that isn't something to complain about with ESO then absolutely nothing is....

That's exactly why when the EU server goes down for over 14 hours they don't care.

Not that is has any use demanding ZOS follows the rules, who has time for that anyway? It's just a game.

But one thing we can be sure about. ZOS and it's sister companies are quickly losing their honour and credibility everywhere. It is not true that they can only lose whatever they do. If they would have handled this faster, with more communication or even tried to learn from previous mistakes, I'm pretty sure there wouldn't be such a big fuss.

Because it's not just 50 cents, is it? It's a day. It's the limited time of the event. It's the investment people have made with their friends and guilds. It's the time people have for their hobby when they aren't working/looking after their kids/whatever. They have chosen to spend their money and their time with ESO, and ZOS is obliged to honour that investment and loyalty.

To wave it away as a trivial amount of money (as you see it) is disingenuous.

And believe me, if players were trying to wangle a free day or two from ZOS by some underhand means, you can bet your bum the company would come down on them like an ACME anvil.

So, don't give me that bobbins.

Imagine ZOS being a restaurant, where you eat every day of the month and pay for it in advance to do so.

Except for a couple of times during that same month when you can't, even though you have payed for it.

Customer: Hey, here we are again. Got our table ready?

ZOS: We have a bit of a problem, all of our chefs have died. But don't worry, we are trying to get some new ones here as soon as possible.

Customer: Okay, we'll just wait until they get here.

ZOS: The new chefs have arrived! But apparently, they don't know how to cook and all tables are full already with waiting customers.

Customer: Yeah, but we pay every month to have a guaranteed dinner. Why didn't you just upgrade the restaurant to a larger location with more chefs?

ZOS: We could have, but it worked before and we thought it would still be sufficient.

Customer: Could we at least get out money back? Or our "free" daily icecream we usually get for being here every day?

ZOS: I'm afraid that's out of the queston.

Now, how long would you keep going back to this restaurant?

But that's not what we have paid for. No ESO+ subscriber has paid to play the game all day every day, we have paid for access to additional bonuses when the game is available for play. In your analogy that would mean you paid for bread sticks and a drink whenever you come and eat, under the caveat that the restaurant is open for business when you show up for your meal (the ice cream being the daily login reward).

Then a lawsuit would be the way to go for you.

When they've attempted to communicate in the past, it's never helped the situation at all. They give an estimated time to finish, and people immediately take it as chiseled into granite. So maintenance is estimated to end at X o'clock. At X plus 30 seconds there are rants appearing about compensation lawsuits because they lied again. When they've posted that maintenance was taking longer than expected, the threads about incompetence, stupidity, and how semi intelligent chimpanzees could do better. If they had to make a second announcement that more time was needed, torches and pitchforks would be organized and less civil posters ended up with timeouts from the forums. Why would the want to communicate?
