Today's maintenance was one of the biggest failures I ve ever seen.

They could have said from the start that the maintenance was going to last 11-12 hours, not extending it for 2 hours every 2 hours.

@ OP and all who are frustrated right now:
I get the frustration but I suggest not coming to forums in the future complaining that something in-game doesn't work if you're gonna get your hackles up when they're taking their time to apply fixes.

The thing is, most other games can get this done in a quarter of the time it takes ESO/Zenimax, if even.

But this isn't other games. Regarding comparison to other games, I would submit that WOW is a good basis. But WOW actually goes down weekly. Most often for 4-8 hours with common extensions to 12+ hours. Two major differences though: they have a business model that pays for high end developers & equipment with reliable income because they never catered to a "free-to-play" audience. Second is that they start their maintenance during their absolute slowest time window(s) and VERY RARELY do they take anything down outside of that schedule.

And to assume we know anything about ZOS infrastructure, code tiers, and SDLC is an error. I've been a developer in large corp world for about 20 years now. You might be surprised at how many things can go wrong during a rollout. Especially the "simplest" rollouts - those are the ones that get ya, really. As well, ZOS made no agreement with users to explain any of it to anyone, really. Sucks to be us, but it is what it is.

My perspective is this: perhaps if we all just provided a little more support and a tad fewer complaints, we might get a little farther by boosting ZOS dev morale instead of constantly filling their forums with negativity.

I agree there is much that could be done to improve the maintenance process. But here again, I do not know what kind of budget they are working with, how hard they work their dev & QA/QC teams. It may just be that the crown store doesn't pay for these things we all wish they would do. Yet there are MANY people who attend this forum hourly who pay little or no money to play this game and wonder why ZOS maybe cannot afford the level of developers and equipment required to make the changes the game needs. I subscribe on the monthly because that's the most sustainable business model for these kind of games and I genuinely hope every day for fixes (I'm sure we agree on the same ones so I, too, will refrain from resurrecting that horse). Point is: you just can't have a low or medium budget AND retain high end talent in dev or IT.

Please understand: I GET IT. I do. As a father and a developer, there's nothing more frustrating than *FINALLY* finding a day off work and responsibilities where I'm looking forward to playing and I cannot because my game is down. But perhaps we could all be a little more patient, a little more supportive, and maybe... maybe we can find our way to a better game by using more honey as bait than vinegar.

This is not a personal criticism @Kungfu, but if you really are a developer, you MUST be aware how very differently other companies handle this kind to total breakdown in regards to their clients. Other companies INFORM their clients about delays and problems. Other companies APOLOGIZE for malfunctions and breakdowns. Other companies REIMBURSE clients for lost game time if their maintenace time quintruples (!!! - and counting!!!).

Just mentioning: 12+ hours after the start of maintenance, PC/EU-players still cannot login! Primetime has actually passed, and ZOS' hilarious promise of "providing updates" (not that any PC/EU-player would still believe in that fairy tale) is thundering silence and nothing more...

OMG I can't believe that we are in the same situation again. Stuck in a login queue. Says approximate wait 30 sec which, like the maintenance deadlines, bears no resemblance to the actual time this will take. And no comment from ZO$. Nothing from customer service all day. Sigh. Wish I hadn't renewed my ESO+ a week or so ago.

Are you seriously comparing WOW to an indie game?

Come on guys, I get you but at this point it's just rude. They even have all hands on deck right now and that's why there's no communication! Be understanding >:(

For real though, we're going through a pandemic and it's understandeable if things go south and errors pop up, now more than ever.

    Greetings all,

After removing a handful of posts, we would like to remind everyone that all posts should be kept civil, constructive, and within the guidelines of the rules we have in place. Bashing, Flaming, as well as Trolling and Baiting, are all violations of the rules, and are stated as follows:

    • Bashing and Slanderous Comments: We do not permit the bashing of individuals (including ZeniMax employees), groups, or other companies on our forums. We believe that doing so is neither constructive nor in spirit of our game and community.
    • Flaming: It’s okay to disagree and debate on the official ESO forums, but we do ask that you keep all disagreements civil, constructive, and on-topic. If a discussion gets heated and turns into a debate, remember that you should stick to debating the post and/or thread topic. It is never appropriate to resort to personal comments or jabs about those participating in the thread discussion.
    • Trolling or Baiting: The act of trolling is defined as something that is created for the intent to provoke conflict, shock others, or to elicit a strong negative or emotional reaction. It’s okay and very normal to disagree with others, and even to debate, but provoking conflict, baiting, inciting, mocking, etc. is never acceptable in the official The Elder Scrolls Online community. If you do not have something constructive or meaningful to add to a discussion, we strongly recommend you refrain from posting in that thread, and find another discussion to participate in instead. It is also not constructive or helpful to publicly call out others and accuse them of trolling, or call them a troll—please refrain from doing so. If you genuinely believe someone is trolling, please report the post or thread to the ESO Team, and leave it at that.
If there are any questions in regards to the rules, please take a few moments to review them here.

    Thank you for your understanding,
    -Greg-

No & No almost certainly unfortunately.

That's just ZOS and the EU server, expect several days primetime downtime a month.

If they were remotely bothered about it they'd have done something about it years ago now.

This company does not deserve my money due to their utter lack of customer friendlieness, I mean how hard would it be to push back the daily login rewards just to name a tiny but very annoying example, oh and of course I still cannot LOG IN stuck at the loading screen for over 10 mins now so F U Zos bye........

You forget the 30€ skin mount worth we get at the last rollback.
We get back all our progression in 1 day and got a compensation, a good one.

Sadly I feel bored incredibly fast on GW2 and always come back on ESO despite all the problem I like this game more

I don't know who this will help, perhaps no one, but as a matter of perspective, at least it's not LOTRO. That's not saying 11 hours of maintenance is an easy pill to swallow, but until it stretches into 11+ DAYS, it could be a whooooole lot worse.

Aye, but when LOTRO does come back up it is nearly always improved.

When ESO comes back up it is nearly always made worse.
