Drop rate for Face of the Serpent from Canonreeve Onerous, er I mean Oraneth

I've soloed Elden Root Hollow I more than 20 times, and I have yet to get a drop of Face of the Serpent. How many more times must I do this dungeon?

Both times it dropped in 2-4 runs. That one was easy for me.

I have two rings now.

OTH, one of the other dungeon pieces took over 25 runs.

Is there anything special you have to do besides just getting through the whole dungeon and killing Oraneth? Is there anything that disqualifies you from getting the gold drop?

I dont think so.

I think some people's accounts have hard time with different items. I don't think its all rng.

I did Direfrost over 25 times, I know people who got it in a few runs.

That was a brutal one for me too. Took somewhere in the neighborhood of 15-20 runs to get that lead, whereas I managed to pull other leads in one overland boss kill. The RNG is seriously across the board on these leads.

I’ve completed 3 Rings now. On the first one, it took 12 runs of Eldon Hollow to get the Lead. For the second, I got the Lead on the 6th run. For the third ring, I got the Lead on the 4th run.

So for me, that’s 3 Leads in 22 runs, or about 1:7.

Does anyone know if doing the dungeons on vet increase the chance of getting leads?

I think it's completely random.

I got CoH from a normal run, and it was my first of the day (I'd run nCoH several times a few days before with nothing). I don't remember if EHI was norm or vet, but again it was the first of the day (with several before).

I don't think it's leashed to being the first of the day though, but those two were several days of nothing before I got it.

I did Darkshade I and II several times on norm and vet to no leads. Same with Volenfell over and over today to nothing.

I'd like it if these had a bit higher of a drop rate. It takes a bit of time to run the whole dungeon to the end and then you get nothing...

I can sort of understand the easier overland leads being rarer as per the time they take vs. a dungeon, but surely dungeons should have a significantly higher drop rate right?

Edit: I’m on 18-19 runs now, no drop.

Edit: I got it on a group finder run, no luck in 5 hours of solo/duo, but first run on group finder worked.

Run 40 today of this garbage Dungeon..and the lead still hasn't dropped. I've went with guildies and it dropped for them on their first go. I've gotten every other lead for this and for some reason this lead won't drop. Now I'm getting to the point where it's F this stupid system. Like seriously....40 runs and no drop..it's ridiculous.

I got one on my first run in vet HM. Has there been any correlation determined between drop rate and the dungeon difficulty?

Nope...i've done vet/nomral/solo/vet solo/random dungeon finder/queuing with guildies.....nada

I ran it once solo then queued for it as a fake tank on normal. Got it on my second group run...

Not saying it has a higher drop rate for fake tanks, but you might give it a shot!

The dungeon leads are the bane of my existence. At least with the "I" dungeons, I can easily solo them. Over, and over, and over. And over. The "II" dungeons are much much easier for me in a group. Sadly, it just takes too long to get a group together for the numerous times I will have to do them.

That is starting to sound out of range for even the RNG. I mean, RNG is RNG and there is always the possibility of an extreme outlier, as nothing is guaranteed. Even though we do not know what the drop rate is, I have to think you are well past the point where you had a 50-50 chance of it dropping.

So, let me ask the silly question... Have you confirmed, and then reconfirmed, that you don't already have the lead? Without add-ons, they can be hard to notice.

Got it on my first run for my first Ring and on my Tenth I believe for my second Ring. RNG is RNG.

I ran it solo on normal, I got it in about 3 runs I think.

Maybe there is a higher chance if you run it solo?

I ran it 14 times. Its RNG and bad luck.

Today I ran the 3 Craglorn delves for the wolf pieces. First one took me about an hour. Got the next two on the first and second attempt respectively.

Most frustrating? Probably killed over 200 monsters in that dwarven ruin in Eastmarch to get that piece.

This is broken.

After ~15 attempts (solo, grp, normal, vet) still no Face of the Serpent from Onerous.

Flat RNG is really bad in games. It leads to really bad experiences.

In reality an item is somewhere specific and you just have to try all the places IT COULD BE until you find the one place it is. So why not use that system for leads.

In path of exile, a silver coin is somewhere in the zone. It is determined to be. So it is statistically guaranteed if you kill every enemy and open every container. I really prefer that system if you want something to feel rare, but also want people to eventually get it.

I've pug'd it a couple of dozen times over the last few weeks and still yet to drop for me even once - I've sort of stopped bothering now as content locked behind RNG rather than effort or skill is boring to me and I am having a lot of fun in an alpha I will not name to which unrewarding experiences like this will soon be making me go long term.

ESO has always had an odd obsession with locking good things behind RNG or limited nodes that they force the masses to compete for - I can't help picturing them watching us play and giggling with evil glee while we get increasingly frustrated.

If it makes you feel any better, while I did get this drop on the third try, I have never gotten a Kuta from a heavy sack. I have been playing since console launch.
