I have had the chest clearly uncovered and had it fail. I have had it where the auger puts a yellow square directly in the middle of the chest. I have had them succeed with half the chest still covered but the aura was uncovered.

So not only is the excavating downright laughable in terms of its gameplay and graphics appeal, it doesnt even work correctly.

I noticed this as well... really annoying.
