tuesday morning is the last day of the anniversary event. running maintenance on tuesday means most people miss out on the last day of boxes and tickets since event ends at 10 am.

This is the obvious reason right? If they made it Tuesday, how many people would have this complaint... I guess there's just no pleasing everyone.

If they made it Tuesday, we'd have multiple threads with multiple people in each thread complaining. Instead of a single thread sustained by the objections of a single person. There's no way Tuesday would make more sense than Monday.

PLEASE clean the servers twice a week, it runs much better for the next few days but it degrades over time, if you ran it on friday morning we might be able to actually play the game during the weekend.

Either you are an essential worker, in which case, much respect to you utter legends, and you won't be playing until the evening anyway.

Or you're not an essential worker, in which case, do as the government says and stay home to keep your family safe. Read a book, watch a movie, play something else... Hell, nobody is judging you if you just sleep all day.

A few hours of maintenance on a video game is not the end of the world. And at this point surely everyone should see that right?

Seriously. People need to calm down. Somewhere in the world, people will get "disrupted" by it.

Or you're not essential (like me) but work in IT and can do home office anyway (like me) and thus must work nevertheless.
Anyway... there's no need to panic. It's just regular maintenance, like every week.

I doubt that the EU server gets some extra patch, since it goes down with the NA server simultaneously, doesn't it. So this will all be done from the US.

the US celebrates Easter on Sunday anyways.

but yeah, not Tuesday. I don't want to miss out on my last batch of anniversary boxes unless they're gonna extend the event.
Shortly after the formation of the Ebonheart Pact, a Nord woman was given a tour of the Tribunal Temple. When later asked about the experience, she seemed upset. Suffice to say, the Dunmer were not pleased to hear this, and thus they inquired further.
"Well," the Nord frowned, "the priests were very angry and unwelcoming. They kept shouting things at me like "you can't drink that mead in here!" and "somebody stop her, she's running naked!" and "we can't catch her; she's covered in grease!""

There are many instances where ZOS have shown they don't care about EU. This isn't one.

Easter Monday isn't a global holiday, it may be one in most of Europe, but even here some countries don't have it. Where would you set the bar to call off a maintenance? 5 countries having a holiday? 10? 15? That's just nonsense. And IMO it's better to have a few hours' downtime in a holiday than to lose an entire day from an event because you wake up to an offline server, go to work and get back when the event's over. That's what happened multiple times to multiple people when EU was down at 8am UTC on a Tuesday that happened to be the last day of an event, as is the case tomorrow.

If you were talking about Easter Sunday, I'd be right there with you. But Easter Monday isn't nearly as important, in my understanding, nor is it a holiday in that many countries. And I'm from a nominally Catholic country.

easter monday is a public holiday in pretty much all of europe, including australia, new zealand, partially canada...thats nearly 3 times the population in the US...

Well, you can't argue by numbers in this way - 3/4 of the world's population is not even christian and doesn't care at all. in the end ZOS is a US company and they stick to US laws and that's it.

the "is a US company" is such a stupid argument

thats like saying McDonalds Australia should have opening hours according to the US timezones becaues its a US company

Hey, this would be a valid point, if ZoS office was in Sydney, right? However, it's not. If it were, however, I'd expect that my game time would be affected by when they did their maintenance, and it would be reasonable to expect that.

Well, if the preparing of those meals also happened in the US, your argument may be valid. But since Australia prepares the meals themselves (at least I hope so), whereas they don't do their own server maintenance...

Last official information said the European server is in Europe. So the technicians will work on a holiday. Which isn't exactly viewed as necessary in the EU.

As it is a patch maintenance it will be done remotely - most likely no one has to work on it in europe to get it done.

And that could be a valid reason why PC-EU fails so many times spectacularly, without someone to control the patching process.

there is nothing to control physically - that is just a software update. Watching the server LEDs blinking doesn't help there. When you download a game you do as well not have your screw driver in your hand just in case - that would be just silly.

I'm always fascinated by the popular belief that humans have to not only be present, but also actively intervening for technology to work. Good thing we have a person inside of every single satellite to ensure it transmits and receives data reliably. A modern telephony switchboard would absolutely astound them; Entire rooms completely void of human life, yet your call is still being placed as expected.

What about us poor souls in Australia? Maintenance occurs right in the middle of evening prime-time for us. I work and have a decent family life (I do read books & watch movies) but it is irrefutable most of us nine to fivers have 1/7 less potential playing time than the rest of the World. Add to that a 350 latency (more in Cyro) and you can see why some of the comments from our Murican friends sometimes rankles.... It's the "I'm all-right Jack" attitude with zero empathy that does my head-in. Can you imagine the outcry if that was the case in NA? (or even UK).

If you start regulating when updates can be done according to religious beliefs or different countries holidays you are going to create a huge, gigantic mess.

Anyway, it's my understanding if we are talking about Christians, that a game like this wouldn't be strictly approved. So it wouldn't make any sense.

Anyway, for Tues the 14th these holidays would be in conflict:

2020 Daily Holidays that fall on April 14, include:

    Air Force Reserve Birthday
    Children with Alopecia Day
    Dictionary Day
    Free Cone Day (Ben & Jerry's) - April 14, 2020
    International Moment of Laughter Day
Look up at the Sky Day
National Be Kind to Lawyers Day - April 14, 2020 (Second Tuesday in April)
    National Dolphin Day
    National Ex-Spouse Day
    National Gardening Day
    National Pecan Day
    National Perfume Day
    Pan American Day
    Pathologists Assistant Day

2020 Weekly Holidays that include April 14, are:

National Animal Control Appreciation Week - April 12-18, 2020 (Second Full Week of April)
National Animal Control Officer Appreciation Week - April 12-18, 2020
National Dog Bite Prevention Week - April 12-18, 2020
National Egg Salad Week - April 13-19, 2020 (Movable Week observed the week after Easter)
    National Green Week - February 2 - April 30, 2020
National Occupational Health Nursing Week - April 13-18, 2020
National Oral, Head, and Neck Cancer Awareness Week - April 13-19, 2020
National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week - April 12-18, 2020 (Second Full Week of April)
National Student Employment Week - April 12-18, 2020 (Second Full Week of April)
Oral, Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Week - April 13-19, 2020
    Orthodox Holy Week - April 12-18, 2020
    Orthodox Lent - March 2 - April 18, 2020
Pan American Week - April 12-18, 2020 (Week that includes April 14th)
Passover - (Also known as Pesach) Evening of April 8, 2020 - Evening of April 16, 2020
Pesach (also known as Passover) - Evening of April 8, 2020 to the Evening of April 16, 2020 (movable date)
Week of the Young Child - April 13-17, 2020
World Hula Week - April 12-18, 2020 (Begins on Easter Sunday)

And that is just in the United States. How many people from how many different countries play ESO. How many of those people might be affected on any given day that there is maintenance?

Point is, like other shave said, it doesn't matter what day it's on. It's going to affect someone, somewhere.
