How did you choose your main class?

Is it the class you played the most?
Is it the class you started the game with?
Is it the class you have more fun to play ?
Is it the class you like more aesthetically?

Your main switched from a class to another for any reason? Nerfs, buffs?

I am curious :D So feel free to leave an answer!

I have everything so I can play whatever I feel like. I don’t change every patch though what my primary character is.

I started with an Orc back in the day, but realized I really didn't like the gameplay. Then went with a Sorc and have never looked back. Then the Guild I was in needed healers, so went with e Breton Templar. I'm hot and cold with it. So, back to the MagSorc. I'm going to try her as a healer and see how that goes.

    Magblade
Chose it because people said it was strong in pve, I like healing and rogues so it seemed to fit
Sometimes it’s the most fun to play, it really depends on team mates and opponents because I primarily BG
Definitely like the magblade aesthetic but wish I was able to use DW instead of a staff

My main would be a MagWarden but I’ve been playing my magblade more these days. Reason I switched was nerfs, but I’ve played Druids before and like nature themes. I just don’t like pets and warden’s pets and animations I’ve never liked. Too weird looking with birds and a floating brain.
Looking for any guildies I used to play with:
    Havoc Warhammer - Alair
LoC EQ2 - Mayi and Iskiab
PRX and Tabula Rasa - Rift - Iskiab
Or anyone else I used to play games with in guilds I’ve forgotten

I fall in love when I saw Warden skill, especial the forest ultimate.
But since I was to new to play it correctly I've spent most time on Templar.
Necro was also a blast to play, but Warden still my main by far ^^

First few months of the game I started with 3 nightblades. I didn't want to pay gold to change roles all the time so I made a character for each role. I picked the class because I liked the dual wield concept and it fit the theme. Rah'Jiin was supposed to be the tank and Generic Argo the Thief but after a year or two I swapped them because the racials made more sense for the roles they were playing.

I still remember my train of thought when I picked my main back in 2014 and yes, I still play as the same toon and yes it's still my main as well. Anyway, this was my train of thought back then when making that toon.

"Which class should I play as? Well we have Dragonknight, Sorcerer, Nightblade, and Templar. Huh, not much choices but I guess i'll make due. Let's see here. Dragonknights seem to be standard tank'ish class that's theme is fire, so pass. Sorcerer are self explanatory and since i'm not interested in that style it's another pass. I guess that leaves only Nightblade and Templar, huh? Well Templar's seem to be the "light" theme class and since i'm not interested in that neither... Well, i guess that leaves the Nightblade then. Let's see, huh... it has invisibility? Well that's cool, I can stealth my way past loads and mobs and get some sneak bonus damage as well. That seems pretty useful, I sure hope they don't add something like a pot that'll let you see invisible targets or skills that'll reveal all invisible targets. Pfft, that's ridiculous"

I started out with a Templar and didn't like it at the time so created a few other chars that didn't go anywhere before settling for my Sorc, it was just a random class I picked and liked and stuck with it, nothing like I wanted to be a mage or something

Based on the stealthiness of the Bosmeri lore. Too bad its not working out now though.

I chose Khajiit warden for the versatility and the self healing. I’m mostly a solo player but for the day when I’m finally ready for the group content and PvP it seems like warden is the class that can be respec easily. I’ve read the rotation is a bit tougher but in the end rotation is about setup and timing, not an issue if you think it through IMO.

Warden may not be the #1 class at anything but it is #2/3 in most all other areas so I like the flexibility to change.

    I play on what mood/feeling I have.

Lorewise I think my magcro is my main now but lately have had more fun playing 2h stamblade.

First 50 was magdk but I got bored of being caster in melee. (For some reason I really don't like idea of caster in melee) but I pvp with it when game is not broken.

I always play a variation on the same character in each TES game, which is fairly similar to the type of character I play in most RPGs. So when I started ESO I was looking for something that would be similar. At first I picked nightblade, because previously stealth has been the thing I felt I had to focus most on, but I soon realised in ESO your class only really determines the type of magic you use, so I switched to templar for the nearest fit to typical destruction and restoration skills.

But I have at least one character of each class, and I'll switch between them based on what I feel like doing at the time.

Started the game as a Sorc cause I always used Spells in Skyrim. Eventually decided to just try what a Nightblade was like. Jokingly called it Kat Blade, and it's been my main ever since.

Well, first I defined the meaning of a character class: a character's class is a predefined complex of skills and knowledge, a result of a particular course of study which grants a character the ability to perform certain functions within the social division of in-game labour in any system so that a character may specialize (specialization). In other words, a character class is a type of education a character acquires.

Secondly, I took the class that mostly resembles the one I have IRL - a mage. Since my main attribute I use professionally is Intellect and I'm not an electrician or a chemist, or any other mage of that type who works with energies, potions, since I'm not a physician, etc., I took a specialization of a mage who's skills are closest to mine, a mage who communicates with outer entities, makes agreements with them, summons different minions, writes spellscrolls, turns people into different objects, buffs and debuffs them, uses enchanted items and runes, shapeshifts, deciphers unknown texts, but who's also capable with different physical weaponry, etc. - figuratively saying, almost exactly the things I do IRL :D, so I chose a class of a warlock. In different games the same skills are performed by sorcerers, druids, demonologists and other types of such mages; in TES games it is Sorcerer. So I chose the Sorcerer class decades ago and have been playing it up to these days. Oh.. By the way, let me congratulate everyone here with the 26th anniversary of the TES games occured 5 days ago :)!

Then I converted my nightblade to orc dps and hardly played anything else since.

Imperial stamden. Picked it because when Morrowind released I wanted to start the game over and take it seriously and try to complete everything. Just started going zone by zone beating everything. At this point he has every skyshards and skillpoint outside of 21 from alliance ranks. He's also been through a few race changes but had come full circle. Feels kinda nice honestly.

Just love how stamden plays. Even if it is weaker now then it was back in 2017.
    PvP needs more love.

Warden (mag) is my main. I have different characters in all classes and I enjoy playing them all. Although I play Templar healer the most often now, for the strong heals, logging into my Warden always feels like I came home again. My magwarden is my master crafter, she's sometimes my warrior, sometimes my healer. I use her for dungeons, trials and pvp. She was the second character that I created. The first one I made was a Dragonknight, which I discovered within a very short time that I wouldn't be very good at playing, so my 'main' switched to a Warden.

The gods were jealous of Fur. They cursed him by dividing his soul and scattering it across mundus. It’s the reason why different Furs’ can exist in other time periods even finding himself aiding heroes of old.

Marxus was a great warrior in the three banner war. He ravished and enslaved many elves but was ultimately betrayed by his own kind for his unchecked cruelty.

I guess my main depends a lot on what I’m doing PvE or PvP.

I chose redguard templar and after 6 yrs of playing and trying multiple things.. I realized the combination redguard templar is one of the worst combos in the game... so bad... SO BAD...

However, every time I make a decent build on that and move it to a Stam DK it just works.....

Made (and deleted) hundreds of chars since beta, different classes, looks and builds, nothing ever really felt like "me"/"home" till wardies arrived, scrapped old main with all her achs and skills, and played the wardy hard, still not tired of her, she's my main and home <3

Used to be a NB, but fell in love with the Warden class during Morrowind beta and made it my main. I've been a Magden for nearly 3 yrs, but last month I switched to Stamden. Def felt like the right decision: Stamden's a lot of fun :)

I have tried them all over the time I have played (just before Homestead).

I dislike several class/specs for a specific reason (looking at you jabs, ugh! [Such a fingernail-on-chalkboard animation for me]).

In the end, I have enjoyed NB (both stam and mag) the best, followed in no order by stamden, stamDK, and stamsorc.

    All of the above.
I looked at the abilities of every class before creating my first character, back in early 2015.
The Dark Magic line, and especially Negate Magic (still my favorite ability to this day) made me choose sorcerer over every other class.

Sorcerer is my favorite class for every single role. I just really enjoy playing my character, and I don't have any interest into playing anything else, I still do it for extra PvP end of campaign reward, but that's it.

I had crap internet (wildblue satellite....) in mid 2018 when I started playing. I always play a stealth archer in the SPMR games so that's what I started with here. Well.... crap connection made playing her a pretty miserable experience. Then I was talking to a RL friend about stuff like that, and he said - maybe you should try warden....

So I bought the class upgrade and made a warden. And then I made a few more. Then I set up a second account and made some more.... And now I have those 2 accounts on EU as well with a fair number of wardens.

I was a hunter in WoW and a ranger in RIFT on my mains. Warden fits me best here, though I do have some of every class but necro. I have better satellite now, but still, the pet is helpful with high ping.
