    I don't do it because I'm a Sorcerer.
I don't do it for an advantage.
I don't do it to taunt players.
I don't do it because it makes me look "cool".

I just do it naturally and I don't even think about why I'm doing it.

I never really understood this, me and my friends have joked about it for years in gaming, all pvp based games have these players but it seems like Eso has always been notorious for it. Jumping while pvping. I just sat here watching about 5 duels by Undaunted and i kid you not all the ones that were slightly losing started jumping all over. Is this a frail ego, insecurity or just for fun? Anytime me and my friends pvp and the enemy starts jumping we like to assume their voice and start saying "it aint nothin, it aint nothin"! cracks me up, all this silly jumping. Does it make you better? Do i need to start?

It's always one of my favourite threads on the forum when this comes up. The smoke and mirrors Anders and defection. People acting like they don't know etc.

    Those that know, KNOW lol

ZoS really needs to make jumping in combat cost some stamina or make it non defensive.

gives you a very rare but free dodge due to targeting and close range, otherwise its an old habit formed over the years by many PvP games where in shooters or free aim games jumping could seriously mess with targeting a player.

just look at call of duty lobbies, fortnite matches or even something as old as half-life online lobbies.
hell in half-life, zelda or even mario games jump spamming was actually faster than running and these might have even contributed to the habit forming over the years.

Jumping doesn't need a cost, it has no actual benefit. Being harder to hit is really no point, once you are targeted jumping won't save you, unless your enemy is an idiot. About the breakfree technically you are still unable to cast, just being in the air during that and the break free still costs your stamina, the only benefit you could get would be the momentum you have, since you won't get stuck mid air, but that is also nothing that should cost, if you are fast for example and get stunned you often still glitch over a small distance.

Personally I feel that jumping is more annoying than usefull and I never encountered a situation where my enemy got a costworthy advantage.

If we would talk about bunny hopping that can cover unusual high distances that would be another story.

If you jump and someone stuns / roots you, you will continue going through the air giving you more mobility. It can also help with targeting enemies on uneven terrain.

Another reason many do it, jumping used to give a significant advantage in the past where it inherited all of your movement speed buffs from the start of the jump. This would allow you to extend your movement speed buffs for free (such as sprint and major expedition) and played a significant role in mobility for magicka classes pre thieves guild (TG). Prior to TG jumping also allowed to you gain momentum if you jumped on a downward slope eventually allowing you to move faster than a maxed out horse.

All of these reasons is probably why you see many players (usually players from back then) do it out of habit (alongside there being some benefits if your using it for the reasons list in the first paragraph).
Overload rework. Power Overload now does physical damage and grants you the power of a tornado: You throw a brick at the target with a light attack, and you hammer your head into that brick with every heavy attack. We have decreased its Ultimate cost, but increased the chance that you get stuck in the animation.

Don’t mind the jumpers, I can still see my arrow from focused aim follow them up, down, around the big rock.

But why the jumpers haven’t noticed it, i do not know?

This discussion makes me wish there was an Athletics skill line. It would probably have a few passives that helped with things like:
    • Movement (Small terrain items don't stop your movement)
    • Dodge Rolling (increase distance rolled by 1-2 meters)
    • Jumping (Lara Croft style climbing on medium-height walls)
    • Grappling Hook buff, like what we see in Unhallowed Grave
The above were inspired by this hopping thread. <3

Do it out of habit, but love when people get triggered by it.

    Well,
    - you're vulnerable when jumping...
    - targeting someone doesnt matter if he is jumping or not
    - you cant cast a lot of skills while in air

    = jumping is useless
