If my GM stops playing, can I get control of the guild?

So, I am in what would be a dead guild. I am one of 2 members who have logged in in the last 12 months and the only one in at least 4. I have messaged the GM outside of the game in an attempt to get the guild passed. I would like to start inviting players to it, but can't promote them even if I did. Is there a method by which ZoS can transfer control/ownership of the guild?

No. Not unless they gave you express permission, or it was yours in the first place and you can prove (or get consent) it in case of dual-guilding. (owning one guild, unable to create another, friend holds it for you and quits, you WILL need their consent even then, I tried, no use if they're entirely poofed, let go, make another)

you might be able to via support. they will send the gm mail and ask if he can pls come on and release the guild to you. i have seen it happen. not saying they can force him to do it. and maybe he no longer checks the associated email acct.

You can. Contact customer support and let them know. If the guildmaster has been inactive for 30 days or more, Customer Support can reassign leadership to an active, ranking member.

    I've done this.

Usurp someone ELSES guild and work? So that's a new thing? What if their computer broke, they take a bit to get a new one, you feel utterly entitled to steal everything they worked for including contents of guild bank?!

30 days seems quite short to me. Now 6 months or 12 months of inactivity and non-responsiveness is another matter, but even then...

In my experience Support has been so staunchly hands-off about not doing anything a GM might (going so far as to tell me explicitly they would “never interfere with a GM” even as I was asking them expressly to implement a GM’s wishes when that GM could not because of a serious flaw in the game’s guild tools) that it seems very strange to me they would replace one, especially after only a month. They could at least have a consistent policy here.

I tend to agree, and if this is possible.... I'm angry. Even just had to log on EU and put in the guild msges in Moonlight and Wicked, steal MY work, and I WILL go nuclear and make a fuss about outright theft, do your OWN work, make your OWN guild or join an active, this is mine! or something along those lines.

I would make a fuss, a mushroom cloud fuss. That's just gross theft!

    1) Have someone that could take over

    2) have discord or ts in which you could message with a phone.

If your guild lacks either of the above, its not very organized and I highly suggest finding a plethora of better functioning guilds

    Agreed.

Back in my guild days in early EQ (I don't bother with guilds these days), our GM went absent for a long while. We carried on regardless and when he eventually came back we gave him some stick over his excuse that his house had burnt down! He took it all in the spirit in which it was meant, but I don't think he'd have been too chuffed if he's lost his leadership as well.

I Have three guilds, and i have made a statement to the one's that could be left in care, and told the people i "designated in case of death or computer loss" that I would like them to take over, and that is ONE person, one guild while he has a pvp version of ours as his own. if any OTHER member tried to hijaack what i poured six years of love, life, work and integrigy not to mention guildbanks for the residents into. I would never forgive you. If they havent said outright and you got the screenshots with times so they can check the actual logs for proof, you're just a theif.

Want a guild? MAKE YOUR OWN!... Instead of STEALING someone elses work and personification.

Don't be so lazy, disrespectful to the one that invited you into THEIR creation, home and sanctuary, themed by their personality, or that pettily greedy.

I used to have two guild on each server, started on NA with Moon Sugar, and Moon Sugar Crafters (for our newbies, we'd use the guildbank for intricates for newbies who's skills still needed lvling, similar on EU, have Moonlight and Wicked. Of course, two of those guilds we're held by others whom i thought would make precautions, but left without any, leaving me a petty officer in my own guilds, one's alright, the other, the one to help newbies, i lost cause after a short break playing eu, i came back to find my own guild overtaken by hostiles, unable to kick them, guildbank robbed'n all, so Moon Sugar Crafters had to go. (Now we have Moon Sugar Rascals though, a pvp seasoned and training guild lead by the ONLY person I'd let touch the other guilds, amazing Zachie who kept my main guilds safe while i was computerless and dying.)

Btw dear devs ( @ZOS_GinaBruno ?) ... this is a heartfelt poke for letting people run at LEAST 2-3 guilds, cause it's kinda heartbreaking after you pour half a decade, integrity, purpose and life into something, and then see it nuked, robbed and buried in feces.

Would you truly lead, or know how to carry the guild, in the spirit of how it waas created aand built over years, in who's name and integrity and work is connected to that guild and their actions would like to see it carried on? Or do you want to leech off their work turning it into something else? If they're dead, how empathically stunted are you? Sorry don't mean to be rude, but what you're trying to do isn't ok ... Make your OWN guild identity, i would be heartbroken to know my little newbie helper guild turned into something i would NEVER be ok with like a "lets scam people for re-sales, pvp-ganks newbies questing in cyro" and so on and so on...

First, dude was offline for over a year before I put in the Customer Support ticket.

Second, I was already in a leadership position when he was still active.
Ive never been in a guild that doesn't
    1) Have someone that could take over

    Hi.

In this case, there were two remaining members of leadership, it wasn't about stealing the guild.
    2) have discord or ts in which you could message with a phone.

I wish. I miss the guy. I have no idea what happened.

That said, my trade guild does have a permanently reserved slot for an officer who died in 2016. I wish I could say it was the first time I've encountered that, but it wasn't. I've been in a few guilds that buried prominent members. I seriously hope nothing happened to Fiery, but after so long, I don't hold out a lot of hope that he's coming back.

I could see a problem with asking ZOS to do this...... they may ask you to purge all the inactive players, in which case you would be left without a guild bank, which would defeat the purpose of taking it over.

It's hard to start a guild if you dont have something to offer your guildies... such as a guild bank for the storing of mats for all the people without eso plus... but even if you do that you still need to have eso plus for yourself because the guild will become quickly overflowing with mats and you will need someplace to store the excesses because 500 slots will not last you very long
After careful consideration (and oh! so much deliberation) we have concluded that you circumstance sounds too much like a l2p issue for it to be just a mere coincidence.

Already had a bout of cancer, continuous multiple scleroses and two broken computers with no budget, equaling six months offline with library computers and a cell radio, saving and fighting for a new computer, last, i spent two months in bed trying not to die. If i survived and came back to find six years and 3k hours of helping (per server), having our identity as a guild abused, guildbank robbed, I would NOT be happy, I would go to war. One was bad enough.

If ZOS wants this then they best make some changes to Guild Management by having a toggle under Guild Master.
Retain Ownership {Default setting} or Allow Ownership Passing Request {rank option that can be enabled, enable function rules apply}.

I would also have the Rank Option of- Grant Rank Ownership Passing Request. This limits who can add that to a rank privilege actions.

Guilds are made by ONE person as a personal guild which states they are the owner, they can invite others into. There is no nothing that states by inviting people in changes this fact. There is no make co-ownership option.

The Owner of the Guild, GM, decides who has access to every function within the Guild. There is nothing that implies Guild Banks and Guild Gold is meant to be shared beyond the owner, unless they personally grant access to another. No one ZOS should be able to change this as it stands currently.
