I say “hi” and “tyfg” or “gg” every time. If someone thinks that makes me automatically a “bad player” I don’t care what they think. I say it for me, for my values. If you have none, that doesn’t affect me. I have 3 guilds and I play tank or healer. Go ahead and leave the group, I’ll be fine 👌🏾

Do you say the same thing if you have to collaborate with strangers for work? If not, why not? You're there to work, not socialize, right?

Because it's a game, it doesn't mean you have to ditch basic civility. And don't worry, I do know the world won't end because of it. I just prefer playing with friendly folks when playing with others.

Yeah I've had that happening, and I never make too much of it, it could be a number of reasons, and not all necessarily objectionable. But if the reason is indeed something to do with feeling antisocial, then it does make one wonder why participate in a group activity at all, and even then, why not take a sec to type a basic greeting... Also, funnily enough, nowdays most of the times people greet in dungeon PUGs, it's almost always accompanied by a separate following message about looking for gear... xD

This is some elitist, entitled pile of bovine dung. Not to mention probably suffering from confirmation bias, where you recall those instances that support your own position and forget those that don't.

some elitist? probably after long time playing here and getting bored by carring noob dps (got no problem with tank and heal if they atleast do their job at minimum, but got bored of doing dung whiel doing 70% of group dps, I after playing this game with some breaks since beta...I just get to lazy to carry dps so thats why and btw..it is better now for me to leave group on start or start chatting on group to kick this low dd?)

and lol @Saltisol, the only time I was inexperienced it was when I was beggining this game like everyone else so....and as I wrote...burned out of carring fake dps after years of playing it, this is not my responsibility to carry every dps I meet

and as I wrote...greeting on start dung and how team will be doing after it in dung...was just mine lucky or unlucky experience at who I was getting with it xD

Yeah boy, you give yourself a big old pat on the back for being so awesome. Except... if you're so good, why do you even pug at all? You should be in high demand in all of your guilds.

Look, I get that it's frustrating getting teamed up with people for vet dungeons who don't know what they're doing. But there are ways to deal with it that don't involve projecting yourself as somehow better or more valid than anyone else. Being bad at the game doesn't mean they're less worthy of respect as a person. Your posts are only proving the point I and @Saltisol made.

I can understand why some PUG. Over the time I've played many of the people whom I've enjoyed doing this content with have left the game. Quiet a few have been friends through numerous games, not just ESO, so it's not like they're easily replaced.

I doubt they're as much of an elitist as it's simply a loss in translation. I'd wager that they speak my native language far better than I speak theirs.

Most of the time I respond but when I don't it because im alt tabbed or im looking at something else or reading something while waiting for the pre-match timer.

Im too poor for two screens sadly so yeah gotta deal with one.

I usually throw up a "hey" or "o/" at the start and a "gg" at the end. I hate stopping to type and only really chat when I'm not doing anything else. If others are trying though, I will put in the effort to make a bit of chatter.

9/10 they don't ever respond when I say something so I just take it as my sign that I don't need to bother with idle chatter and can just get on with things. My only real pet peeve are the people who either don't know everyone can loot chests/heavy sacks or don't care and just loot and carry on without calling it out.

I've pretty much always gotten a response to a greeting at the start, or a "cheers guys cya" at the end of a dungeon run. I've also noticed that quite a lot of people don't drop group immediately, they'll just stay grouped with you for ages, despite being on the other side of the continent, which is a bit weird...

    @Buddy_Bradley
If I stay grouped its because I figure you are reading the quest dialogue. Once you leave, I leave group. There’s a huge population of people who want to read the dungeon stories and never get a chance.

Does it matter if they run ahead for ? Most players have done that very dungeon a number of times so you wont miss much more then the first trash pull.

In bg's you have roughly something between 15 and 45 seconds to reply to a "hello" or "hi" so no lack of time there.

Usually just can't be bothered to type hi all the time, some times I do sometimes I don't.

If someone asks a question I will generally answer, or if I spot a heavy sack or chest I will type in chat to let others know.

Other than that its rare I start a conversation just don't see the point in PUG groups if its a guild group I will chat a bit but that is about it.

I have tanked more than a few dungeons discovering I am the only one that speaks English, it was "fun" taking a Spanish speaking group through VET Crypt of Hearts 2 not being able to get the message across for the mechanics of the last 2 boss fights.

Had a group that I think were Muslims due to the fact the only 2 words in all the stuff they typed that I recognized were Allah and Quran, had no clue what they were on about but they were a group so could not kick any of them.

We were running normal Selene's web, took the better part of 40 minutes, not sure if it was low damage or just low survivability due to them being low level, since I had to keep reviving them during just about every single boss fight, despite the fact I was both tanking and healing since they seemed to have a fake healer/one that had not unlocked all the skills they needed yet.

That said part of the reason it took so long is one of the DPS went offline during the fight, with all the traps on the ground, must have been there for 15 minutes in that fight alone trying to keep the other two alive while keeping the boss and cats focused on me.

Only reason I stuck around was because I was farming Durok's Bane and managed to get the last few pieces I needed during that run.

I have at least 1 Russian in my friends list, bought a lot of intricates off them a long time ago and I accepted the friend invite, have helped each other out in some of the Craglorn daily's and a few dungeons from time to time despite the language barrier.

This is all on PC/NA, I am Australian point I am trying to make is you have no guarantee that the people you group with will speak your language.

I play on Mac with a controller, and I've used random dungeons to speed up toons' levelling between 40 and 50 (now no more, it's not fun and I don't like to be a burden to others).
Whenever the dungeon starts, almost always you have barely the time to adjust setups (potions, food, etc) while the more experienced players rush into the dungeons without any care in the world for you. Consider that to write/chat I'd have to leave the controller and start texting (ESC, /G, and all that stuff).
So it has often happened that I've skipped over any introduction. Not for lack of politeness, but to try and stay with the group.
Things OFC are different at the end: there's plenty of time and I've always said thanks and good bye. Conversely, I have never, ever, seen any congrats on my 50 lvl reached.

It can matter a great deal.

You might start your running before I’ve even entered the dungeon. Loadscreens are different for everyone... you might never realise this if you just leap into action yolo style.

If you run ahead and I’m doing a quest you might ruin it for me by triggering dialogue and cutscenes I’ll never see. You’ll never realise this because you’ve either done the story (so why would anyone else want to do it) or just don’t care and only want your XP bonus.

Doing dungeons shouldn’t be a race, so that when I finally catch up with you, you’ve not only killed everything but you’re whining about how you’ve done all of the damage and you’re ‘carrying’ us. It should be a collective job so we all feel like we’re involved and have contributed.

    That’s also basic politeness.

Obviously, if you all agree to run through a dungeon together that’s totally fine. But then you’d have had to say ‘hi’ first...

On a more serious note, if i am not in the middle of sorting my inventory before anyone pulled, i usually say hi, and i usually say thanks for the run. In between i also say "please hold boss agro" and "requesting eledrain and orbs" but u know, it depends on the group.

I don't give a *** about how you wanna call it.

    Call it whatever you want.

I am a competitive player, I am there to get things done, it's business, i am not there to pretend to be nice like someone here. Pretending to be nice doesn't make you a good person irl.

I will say it here, I don't know for sure if you are a horrible person irl or not, but from the stuffs you write here, I am certain that you are just pretending to be nice to make you feel good about yourself, to feed your own self-esteem.
Like, when people don't response to your half-assed & hypocritical "hello" in chat, you immediately assume that they are either shy, lazy, or bored, or a combination of those things, in short they are lesser than you, it can't be anything else, it can't be that they have chat hidden, it can't be that they just don't pay attention to chat at that moment, it can't be that they are foreign players who don't speak English well so they don't bother with chat, it can't be any other thing, it has to be one of the negative things you listed.
You are just a hypocrite who pretends to be nice, who acts all high and mighty with your "oh look i type hello in game chat i am such nice person i love me so much", you don't care about actually greeting people, you don't care about them, you just want to feed your own self-esteem.

Geeeez you draw an awful lot of unpleasant conclusions don't you. Saying hello would make me feel good about myself ?? Is that really how you see it ? I say hello cause I think it's something that you do when you "meet" new people and it's a good way to start off things. Sometime people reply sometimes they don't, it's their choice. You on the other hand has taken this to a whole new and very unpleasant level.

The reason for this post was just to find out why some not respond, simple as that.

Yeah if you actually cared about finding out why some not respond, then you wouldn't phrase it "Shy, lazy, bored or a combination of all", when there could be so many reasons, like you know, they just didn't pay attention to the chat, but no no, it has to be one of those negative things you mentioned, how dare those faceless lesser beings not respond to your half-assed and hypocritical "hello" in a video game. Then you go belittle every single person who stated reasons why they didn't say hi, there was a dude who said he came to do their job and be done with it, not to socialize (as a figure of speech, they just came here to get the job done, not to mess around), and you were like "lmao you call this socializing? your real life must be so pitiful haha let me laugh at you hahaha".

So yeah, you might not even realize it, but deep down, what you are doing, especially when creating this thread, is to feed your own self-esteem, you don't care about actually greeting people, you don't care about the people you get in your game, you just want to feel good about yourself and have an opportunity to look down on others.

So yeah, you might not even realize it, but deep down, what you are doing, especially when creating this thread, is to feed your own self-esteem, you don't care about actually greeting people, you don't care about the people you get in your game, you just want to feel good about yourself and have an opportunity to look down on others.

I get that, there are a lot of reasons but do you really think I should list them all ??

You know what, my experience tells me that if you don't have anything to say of the matter you resort to attacking the poster as an individual. It's a cheap and cowardly thing to do and doesn't add anything whatsoever then a bad name for yourself.

When entering a dungeon, bg or any other small scale grp thing I say something like "heya" or "hello" because I think it's a good way to start. Sometimes you get a reply from one or two but in many cases it's nothing, not a Word.

So what is your reason for not greeting your fellow players ?

i am just here to get this bread done and then move on to do the next thing, i am not here to socialize.

When i don't have any useful information to provide to my team, i don't bother to type in chat.

It's just my habit from other competitive games. There are time for socializing, like in guild chat, with friends in group, hell, or even in zone chat, but when i solo queue, it's pure business.

This is so crazy, another one that considers saying hi is socializing :D

I completely agree with you. There was no intention here to find out why people don't reply in a pug. An awful lot of bias and already formed opinions from those pretending to be the good sociable players everyone loves. If they would be such role models they would not immediately label someone rude just because they haven't received a two letter reply.

Or you can simply phase it the way a decent human does: "What are the reasons of people not saying hi in game chat?". You don't have to assume that people who do that are either shy, lazy, bored or a combination of all. And you apparently don't have to go around belittling others who stated their reasons for not doing that.

I am not the first one who say "mean things". Apparently someone has been going around to belittle people who don't say hi to others in game chat. "lmao you call this socializing? your real life must be so pitiful haha let me laugh at you hahaha".
But hey, at least I don't pretend to be nice.
