    So how this this look?

My gf uses controller when playing on pc with hdmi going to a 4k TV.

She likes the big fonts. It looks like eso on xbox.

So is there a comparison shot old vs new?

There's not really a comparison for the one on live, because you can scale it to whatever you want, between these extremes:

    sACtIyz.jpg
    bj2Nbur.jpg

The new one on the PTS is fixed at this size:

    AZYn0hi.jpg

Sooo it just looks the way it does on console then? I'm confused as to what people are so up in arms about XD
We don't play on console, though. We play on PC. Most of us don't sit 2 meters away from a TV, but barely 1 meter from a much smaller PC screen. That comes with different requirements for an interface.

I sit about the same distance from my smallish tv as most people do from their monitor, so I'm still not really seeing what distance has to do with anything.

It really does depend in part on what size monitor/TV you use and how far away you sit from it. It also depends what you consider “readable,” what other accessibility features you use, and what add-ons you have. In some setups the change will be minimal or negligible, while in others (perhaps not yours) the font just will be too small to read or so big as to interfere. One size doesn’t fit all here, and that’s why scaling exists in the first place.

For me, without UI scaling the text is much bigger, to the point where both the text and the larger UI elements interfere with playing. For example, on the PTS right now subtitles are huge, and those with multiple lines can take up a large amount (1-2”) of height right in the middle of my screen, going right over my character and interfering with my view of what’s going on. (I keep the POV zoomed all the way out, so that’s not a solution here.) When I use scaling, those subtitles become smaller and get moved down the screen some, enough not to overlap with any other element. So I won’t have any sort of choice except to play with subtitles and try to ignore their very disruptive positioning, or to turn them off and miss out on fully understanding a lot of dialogue. That kind of defeats the purpose of accessibility features. And that’s just one example. For me, the huge size of the text compared to other elements, especially those added by add-ons, is also extremely jarring. My eyes are constantly trying to readjust between the new larger native gamepad UI text and the much more comfortable size of the add-on text, which I have control over. If I try to make the add-on text bigger, I’ll really have no screen real estate (gamepad UI’s native scaling was obviously not meant to share space with add-ons), and playing two feet away on my 27” monitor will feel like sitting way too close to a 50” TV.

Your mileage will vary, of course, but that’s exactly why some customization option needs to exist.

I play on a 55 inch tv with xbox one x at 4k and tried the pts on my 32 inch monitor. Its horrible on the monitor. it works on the tv but on monitor it feels almost claustrophobic on how big everything is.

seems rather rude of them to do that... how can we pressure them to get their attention?

Only way is to shame them on social media and hope it hits gaming sites. If it does they will look really bad. It will hit me too because of a disability and if they ignore us they will get destroyed in the public's eye.

honestly lets push this to gaming sites. they need to get some public backlash for this, it's not okay to just abandon part of your playerbase like this

they said it causes some issues with the UI, but we have had that UI for 2 or 3 years now, so who cares.

add to teh fact nothing can be worse than the chat window and drop history overlapping.

for their sakes, lets hope they didnt add a crown store icon to the UI that caused issues with the gamepad UI. Boy would that look bad.

but at least on launch day, the forums are going to be lit up with really angry people when they actually realize it changed.

This is truly an appalling change which will affect people with various health issues, as well as inconvenience many others. Surely this rubbish won't go live? My tolerance for poor service has limits, but this goes beyond service and into the outright disrespectful. The typically substandard communication about this issue only makes it worse.

PLEASE revert this change messing around on PTS this is a massive problem, it makes it very hard for me to focus and event test things on it I'm really worried about this going live. I hope to see this resolved and ZOS to look towards fixing their issues with the UI rather than trying to take this avenue I was loving this PTS cycle but if the game becomes hard to near impossible to play then I'll have to minimize or stop my play entirely till I can adjust that again, does anyone know any addons that work on PTS to fixing this problem?

I will not be playing until it is fixed and I have been playing since beta day one.
They will no longer get my money until they fix this mess.

I played this game with controller long before gamepad was even supported because I hate how it feels with
mouse and keyboard. It is an action mmo and just feels right with controller.
I am a PC gamer and sit no more then 3 feet from my monitor and this is just unacceptable in current state.

I hope they fix this soon because I love this game but refuse to convert to keyboard and mouse and will not
pay another dime until it is fixed.

Without the UI scaling for gamepads, the HUD elements become way too large. I have played this game for almost four years and never used K&M for this game or another, so the removal of the scaling feature is a big problem for me.

Untill it gets fixed, I use a combination of addons that solve most of the problems for me.
The menus and chatbox remain too large, even with these addons.
I’m still looking for a way to prevent to chatbox from popping up at all.

With these addons, you can adjust many of the HUD elements to your liking and create a coherent style.
You can alter the scale, postion, color, style and font of the different HUD elements.
Playing without the skillbar gets an even cleaner HUD (you know which button to press for a skill, don’t need a bar for that and a sound indicates that your Ultimate is ready).

    Azurah (scale, position)
LUI extended, especially the settings concerning unit frames (scale, color, position, font)
    Lootdrop (scale, position, style)
SwitchBar II (scale, position, color, style of icon that indicates on which bar you are on).
    Dark UI (color, style)
    Combat Reticle (scale, color, style)

After a day of intensive fiddling with all the settings, I am happy with the results. Still some finetuning going on.
Not all the addons are updated, but I haven't encountered any problems. Well, besides the crashes every now and then but those happen even when all the addons are turned off.

This is one way to fix the UI scale issue for 95% of gamepad mode gameplay:

I personally found (on a 1080p monitor) making most elements 70% puts it back to how I’m used to it
  • Dreamerx213
I have Azurah and it helps but not with everything ( guild store or any vendor, Picking up quest, or talking to npc's , crafting) just to name a few. Azurah is a good addon but only allows resize of certain ui elements.

We need a fix for this pronto!!!! give back the UI scaling option for gamepad or you will loose a bunch of loyal
players who have supported this game since it's birth.

Depends on your screen and your position relative to it. On my small work laptop, the UI feels big, but not outrageously so. On my PC with a good-sized 1440p screen, it's ugly and huge, even from 1.5m away, which is feasibly as far away as I can sit. Also, the UI elements not being resizeable apparently messes with a bunch of add-ons, making them non-functional unless you play with keyboard and mouse. Can't confirm, having not used the add-ons, but that would also be a source of concern.

Hey all, just wanted to confirm this is not a bug, but something we deliberately changed due to it causing a myriad of other UI-related issues. We apologize for missing the patch note for this change, and will make sure it gets included in the PC launch notes

this is a [snip] poor programming performance. i know your code for gampad and pc ui and you have totally messed up there. instead of recycling and abstracting, code was duplicated and newly written. this is unfortunately often the case in software development.
anyway, the game is unplayable with this crazy big ui. for me it borders on sour, I paid for the game and for years i could scale the ui without problems and now suddenly it makes "myriad of other UI-related issues"!? strange, i haven't seen any of those in the past!?
your game become very very expensive since it became a success. even if there are issues, [snip]

    ^100% on point. Pathetic.

@ZOS_GinaBruno I feel bad you had to write that statement.

Why client interface customization is ever restricted by default is bad design. Accessibility is key.

The messed up UI for the crown store, THE CROWN STORE, of all windows was hilarious but this takes the cake.

I decided to try the game again in ernest after a long break. I was surprised and enjoyed the automatic feature for KBM/Gamepad UI switching initially but good god man, the gamepad UI is absolute trash.

I should not have to modify anything outside of game to simply scale or edit the interface. Aside from a chat/loot history positioning issue, the game interface swapping was fine before.
