I would do it as a side activity if it was more interactable than just afk E simulator </3

Perfect summation of why fishing in this game sucks. Nothing to increase the quality of the catch, huge wait times for something to hook, hitting any button at all or getting moved by an NPC cancels the cast and wastes the bait. Cookie Clicker is more engaging.

Hissmir is wrong food. It just keen eye on fishing spots, somewhat useable before Elsweyr where you had to google what bait goes to what type. Correct food is Artaeum Pickled Fish Bowl - adds a "extra person" when fishing, so greater chances for rare fish.

As Robpr says, this food works. Also I kept fishing for when I was eating a snack or drinking coffee and only one hand was required  Also only salt water bait is used on the entire island.

Agree. I did "Master Angler" early on (2015??). Each new chapter I make sure I get the achievement so I can wear my title with no guilt. :)

I enjoy fishing at times. Relax, smoke a pipe, have some coffee, chat with guildies.

That's why "Master Angler" is the most prized award!

Also, you can't just stay in PvE or PvP zones, you gotta do 'em all. So it takes some serious travelling.

Well ... I guess I have to eat my words. I just went to Artaeum (based on another member's suggestion) and had a streak of good luck. I caught all three rare fish which earned me the "Artaeum Master Angler." I also snagged a couple of the Psijic waterlogged satchels and got two new recipes: Artaeum Pickled Fish Bowl & Artaeum Takeaway Broth (which is the one I was looking for). It only took about 30 minutes. Yahoo!

    Gratz dude.

And you are right, fishing is very, very, very dull in this game.

If you're going to fish in eso then my recommendation is to get a nice drink, turn the music off in game and play your favorite podcast or youtube show and listen to that while you fish.

    This!

Its not dropping in summersend. Took me only about one hour to get the recipe.

So I just heard that I can get a special recipe (supposedly good for Stam builds) by fishing in Summerset. It's a "gold" recipe that can be found in some sort of water logged bag that can be snagged in Summerset's waterways. I also have a food or drink that I can take that's supposed to help me find rare fish and fishing sites, etc. Anyway, I tried to farm rare and unique fish a couple of years ago and soon realized that it would take my character an entire lifetime to reach the "Master Angler" achievement so I gave up on that because of how incredibly boring it was coupled with the fact that I only caught a rare fish about once every two months.

So I decided to bite the bullet today and give it another shot. I created some of that special recipe (Hissmir's Fish-Eye Rye); took some; headed to Summerset; pulled out my fishing gear; and spent a couple of hours fishing in the ocean and in a river. I caught nothing but white fish. Not a single rare fish and not one instance of "Perfect Roe" after cleaning all of my white fish. So I'm retiring my fishing pole and tackle box and going back to PvE where I belong.

    It's on Aertaum...not Summerset.

You need Artaeum pickled fish bowl. It takes max. 3 hours in Artaeum to get the recipe.

Even with out the bowl you get lots of green and blue fish. If not you are doing something wrong. Do you use the right bait ?

I did Masterangler without Artaeum pickled fish bowl. It is a good thing. You will see a lot of Tamriel you never have seen before. You will have a lot of hardeners etc. Chests for the 1k achievement and Roe. Selling blue and green fish is some money and some house items are cool too.

Yes, it is a test of patience :)

IMHO, Fishing could use its own skill line.... Like why hasn't there been any fishing related skill passive selection over the years? Even if just 1 or 2 more passives in the Provisioning....

ZOS, please make this happen... Increase chance to get a better drop on higher quality items, and increase chance of obtaining Perfect Roe, etc. When filleting. Another passive could be that it increases the chance of successful catch, so you don't have to wait as long. Finally: Limit types of fish spots depending on provisioning level, and let it increase the more you fish.

It would add that much needed motivation, usefulness and time saving to our current tedious version of fishing.

Should be able to hook a shark and get dragged into the water, then you'd have to surf the water back to the shore while being pulled by the shark, and if you fail to stay balanced you fall in and get eaten by slaughterfish. The shark could have lasers as well to make it harder, if you succeeded you get to keep him as a battle pet and use him in PVP.

Maybe I was pretty lucky that day, but I got all recipes in Artaeum within 2 hours of farming. Of course, I agree that fishing is annoying some times. I wanted to get the Craglorn angler achievement for the nice Yokudan dye and it took me about 3-4 days of constant fishing.

The Roe drop rate is 1%, so if you filleted less than 100 white fish without any Roe dropping, that's not unexpected.

(Actually, according to Votans, my Roe rate is about 0.96%, but then, I've never been lucky.)

As for the rares, I've literally done thousands of casts in just one type of water in just one Zone before getting all three rare fish. Like I said, I've never been lucky. You just have to accept what you're getting into. If you're not into proving a lunatic level of patience, fishing ain't for you.

As others have mentioned, the actual item you're looking for drops in Arteum, not Summerset.

@FixedBlade123 How much time do you need to get the recipe just depends on rgn.

In my case, I took +- 2 hours to get it but some of my friends and guild mates got it in 10, 20 or 30 minutes...

Fishing, as everything in this game, is boring or not depending on the way you do it: if you are going alone it can be boring but if you do it with others is a lot more fun.

Most of the times I fish with others: you can ask friends, guild mates or even random people in zone chat.
Let me tell you, there's always at least one player who's willing to join.

Fyi, I never go fishing without a 6 pack of beer :D:D:D

I mean come on.... We stare at this same bamboo stick for ever!!
How bout a opportunity to get a graphically better fishing pole?? Maybe add contest for rare items or rewards for rare fish?

    Just my 2 drakes... Huzzah!!!

I suspect you need to fish in a group. I recommend some real jokers that will keep you laughing. Fishing in a group supposedly increases your chances of catching something worthwhile. Also use arteum picked fish bowl or the hissmir recipe to make it more tolerable. It su ks that you were fishing in the wrong zone. I'm not laughing, trust me there's nothing funny about that. Hours of wasted game time? No one needs that frustration...
