Does anyone actually use the number row keys for abilities?

I've been playing FPSs for decades using the number line for different weapons so I continue to use it for my ESO skills. I am used to it.

My mouse only has four buttons on the side; one is "move forward infinitely" which I rarely use (though I probably should) and one is weapons swap and is a lot easier than using the ` key. These were assigned by default by, I think, the Logitech software.

If I ever upgrade to one of those fancy-schmancy mouses with a dozen buttons I could try to retrain myself, but I'm not sure it would be worth it.

I use 1-5 for abilities and my MMO mouse for Weapon Swap and Interrupt.

I have Brachydactyly Type D and very small hands as well, so when it comes to mouse keybindings and selecting an MMO mouse I have to be more careful and plan to get a mouse with the biggest buttons closest to the end of the thumb rest.
This is why I use a Steel Series Rival 500, I have 3-4 side buttons in reach and they're all quite big.
Because of this using a mouse for all my skills just isn't possible for me unless I raise my hand upwards into a claw to touch them.

How's the Steel Series 500 working for you? I was thinking about picking one up. I could never get used to the multiple number buttons on the typical MMO mouse. But the Rival 500 seems to be perfect for my hands.

I use 1-5 for abilities 6 for ults. F for bar swap, R for stow/ready weapons (I also have R for reload in fps), Q for potions, X for synergies, C for push to talk on discord so it is not bound to anything, Ctrl for sprint shift for crouch double tap and WASD for dodge

I quite like it the fact that I can use it and program it to buttons I will not be using manually means in other MMo's that require Q,E,R,T,F,C,X,1,2,3,4,5
I can make use of other letters like = and further numbers in my hands.

The bottom two buttons can be locked if you don't like them so you don't get any misclicks.
Mouse 3 also as a push left and a push right binding which is really weird.

Man, I must just really suck. I just don't have the manual dexterity to move and use the number row at the same time. For example: how can you move forward (W) while using ability 2 or 3? Don't both require you to use your middle finger?

I never lift my middle finger from the W unless going in reverse. Ring finger for 1 and 2; Index for 3, 4, and 5. 3 is the hardest to hit so that spot is reserved for things that get used less often or never such as things that give a buff just from being on the bar, i.e inner light.

It's just hard for you because you're not used to it. You'd be surprised how quickly you can adapt to things that seem very awkward at first.

While I'm sure you're partly right, I think there may be more to it than just me not being used to it. (I have sausage fingers, & somewhat limited flexibility and I suspect that to be a [large] part of the problem.) I've been playing around with it just for the hell of it, and even out of combat I simply can't reach certain buttons while moving forward, (2 is the worst) strafing left is impossible while using 1 & 2, and while strafing right reaching 4 requires absurdly contorting my wrist & I cannot reach 5 at all — and that's just the tip of the iceberg, lol. I'm a NB & I crouch a lot, (CTRL) frequently going from cloak to crouch in order to conserve magicka. No matter where I slot cloak, there is no graceful transition between the two.

Luckily my mouse came in yesterday, otherwise I'd be reduced to crafting & skyshard hunting, as PVP was a complete non-starter for me. (It was embarassing :( )
