Here are some games I’ve played in between my last ESO stint and when I logged in yesterday.

F1 - great game, no one plays it

Madden - 25+ years in and there is still no balance. I was like 31-1 on all-madden vs the CPU and it wasn’t fun because you can’t unknow the glitches.

NBA2K20 - the apex of predatory games. Overall it’s a pretty good game but if you want to play their MMO (My Park) you essentially need to pay an extra $50 just to have a toon who isn’t totally useless. The grind to 85 overall (where you can get instantly with $50) takes about 200 single player games. And if you think the group finder is bad on here with dungeons, imagine if a dungeon required a point guard.

WWE2K20 - I’ve dumped thousands of hours into wrestling games over the years. While there are some improvements theoretically, the game literally doesn’t work. I believe the meta critic score is actually 0.

NHL20 - fun for single player drop ins otherwise it’s more of the same game.

Battlefield V - I uninstalled it in 10 minutes when I remembered that dying to someone who is a mile away isn’t fun.

Tennis World Tour - maybe the worst purchase I’ve ever made.

DC Universe - even like a decade after release there is still a pay wall.

Mortal Kombat - it was fun for a week.

Spiderman - Sort of fun for a week or two.

GTA - Always a good time in spurts but nowhere near the depth of ESO.

    RDO - See GTA.

The Show - Very good game but just as exploitable as every other sports game.

I could go on and on but I’ve dumped way more money than I should into games that ranged from fun for a week or two to outright unplayable garbage. ESO has and likely will always have some issues, but the state of games on XBox and PS4 is pretty lackluster with so many games being jammed into yearly development cycles.

I totally see your point. There was a time when I was just sick of ESO. I cursed ZOS and everything people usually do on forums. ;) I invested in Nintendo Switch and several excellent games ready to ditch ESO for good. Nintendo was my love since 80's after all.

I played many major titles, some extremely fun pvp games with fantastic, always_working, match making systems (Splatoon2), Tetris, Octopath Traveler, Mario games, Kart, family games etc... I encountered zero bugs, everything worked! It was a wonderful experience.

But you know what? After several months I missed ESO. Missed exciting and epic Cyrodiil battles, BGs, quests, stories, char customizations, TES lore and environment. Nowadays I fire Switch from time to time, but I left most games on ~40% completed. That does not mean they suck, far from it. It just means that I am, at this age, a bit hard to get myself hooked, long term. What I used to play for months when I was young(er) doesn't make me excited like it was. Some games are grindy despite being eye-candy. Some titles are very expensive.

But ESO did make me hooked. I learned that the grass isn't always shiny and greener on the other side, despite the obvious flaws (mostly or almost exclusively technical) in ESO.

Despite all the shortcomigns, it's still the most accessible fantasy MMORPG, and it's the only MMO set in Elder Scrolls world. So, yes.

Every once in a while I feel like returning to GW2, but then I remember I'd have to buy two expansions in order to do any meaningful progress.
Every once in a while I feel like returning to Wildstar, but then I remember it was shut down.
Every once in a while I feel like returning to WoW, but then I remember why I quit it in the first place.
And so I'm staying here. We have a rather easy-going, no-commitments relationship, ESO and me. ;)

I've played several other MMO's that had significant down time due to either server issues, ddos attacks, or just plain bugginess and this one is no different for me. Its frustrating when I have myself set to play when I get off work or have a day off and want to spend time online playing, but its not the end of the world. I'll wait til the company is done fixing/tweaking/reworking whatever it is they need to fix and then play the game again.

TLDR: Its worth it because I haven't played through everything I want and the down time won't really affect that. Its frustrating but what isn't from time to time?

Performance update will make or break it for me in 2020. Will just have to wait and see what happens. Hope the "magic bullet" is as good as Zos thinks it is.

I like it for the most part. Needs some real competition though on console. That's not likely to happen.
If this were pc , no way I'd be playing this. Too many other titles that have what I enjoy much more.

It's a great game and the new stories are good.

My big issues I am finding at the moment is nothing is "new" sure there is new stories, dungeons and trials which are fun, but they're just more of the same old.

I recently picked up an mobile version of what was my first entry into MMO gaming as something to play when I get free time at work and there are so many things I can do in it which ESO doesn't have.

Funny thing, I would probably need 3 lifetimes to actually see and enjoy EVERYTHING ESO has to offer. I'm so slow on questing, Cyrodiil/IC/BGs are taking too much of my game time. I have so much to see yet, from EP line to finish the Chapters and dlcs... slacking so much. :(

This game offers so much content that I'm not moving from ESO anytime soon, if ever. ;)
Sure, but what I found is the content is the same.

Every update is just more story, dungeons, trials. There is nothing wrong with them, they're great. However it's more of the same and I started to find I was getting bored of more of the same.

The last new game system I think we had was housing right?

ESO right now is the best MMO in the market, and by that, you can understand how bad the MMO genre is right now.
Zenimax could make this game more popular than WOW easily, but bad management leads to bad results.

No not if PvP is your main draw. Idk how people still slog through it all the time. No clue how streamers go for 6+ hour day after day. And the rest of the content is just meh. It’s grindy, graphics are outdated and the whole game doesn’t even function that well unless no one else is in it.

Assuming you can log in, yes.

That this isn’t a ringing endorsement of the game speaks volumes..... it’s great... if you can log in

ZOS should think for a second how utterly lame that sounds

And to think I praised the new combat team. Everything is a big mess, performance is horrible, balance is horrible, combat feels horrible, I don't like my new ''class identity'', I don't like any of it. Its not as bad as morrowind but Its damn close.

    Nope, as a main game.
Yes, as an alt game without subs.

    This.

After this past year+ my game allowance has been going towards RDO.

Killing mmo time w/eso til the new LOTRO mmorpg, hopefully will be great.

I’m of the opinion that the days of “really great games” are behind us.

Every new game these days is released unfinished and you have to keep paying via microtransactions/dlc’s/subs/selling your data to third parties.

Capitalism has killed the “great” games.

Depends what do you expect. For casual questing, the game is great. Also, what other possibilities you have? From my experience this is still the best heavy fantasy MMO around. However the combat design team is working hard to see most of their player base rage quitting, so we shall see.
AO is dead. AoC is dead. LOTRO is dead. In GW2 I was not able to stand the idiotic affirmative heavy main storyline. WoW I left before Pandas and never looked back. TSW/SWL is a wonderfull free single player game.
Do we have anything new and good? I admit I Never looked for some year or two.
