Are you saying that the people that work on this game should work for free?

Are you saying you are okay with game developers knowingly creating content that manipulates their players into spending more money on their game?

There's a difference between being supporting content of one's own volition and being coerced into supporting content through the very design of the game itself. The OP is very right to point out the fact that previous event recipes used ingredients available to everyone. That is how it should have stayed... at least if the developers had any interest in following an ethical microtransaction model for their game. Rather a moot point, I suppose, given it's already abundantly clear that they developers are okay being predatory with their microtransactions.

How do you feel about bis sets being locked behind "paywalls" pretty much every single meta set (in pve) requires you to own dlc. In fact I can only think of one set, mother's sorrow, that is in the base game. At least these ingredients are possible to obtain via other players.

Dude, it’s up to you to decide how you spend your money.

But, and this may be news to you, the whole game is behind a paywall.

We all pay something for it.

Your molehill of an issue might have some validity if it was about, say, Relequen’s, a best in slot gearset that is only available to those doing Cloudrest and isn’t available to buy in guild stores. But to nail yourself to ingredients that are freely tradeable from DLC pack you can buy with gold/Crowns.... it’s just ..... pointless.

So you'd like to go on record, and say that no new crafting can be introduced in an expansion or DLC?

Well, that'll limit what developers can do with their MMOs.

Don't you think it is a bit not fair to lock the ingriedients to EVENT recipes behind a paywall ? There have never been single case of this so far, but now ZOS tells you to buy Elsweyr and kill Dragons to get Dragon Blood for "Disastrously Bloody Mara" and buy Fang Lair DLC and run it to get Dragon bone for"Pack Leader Bone Broth".

I WOULD undertand if those recipes were also behind the said Chapter and DLC but they are event ones, for everyone to get. Only to find they can't craft them.

I know you can buy them, but that's not the point. And i also know that "Bewitched Sugar Skulls" seem to be te best food of the three so far and does not have a special ingriedient, but i want to talk about the topic, what do you guys think of it ?

Yeah, it's not pay to play when you can buy them from trader. Just buy what you need, spend gold not cash.

They are useless anyway.. worse than blue food, more expensive and the extra effects are just joke trolling. I collect them for completion but they will never be worth crafting really.

essentially you just go "i know you can buy it but i want to complain anyway". it's ingredients that you can buy for cheap. dragonblood goes for less than 1k per. and that's a rare one.

heaven forbid zos ever use dlc content for anything besides exclusively being behind the dlc paywall.

Then there is no reason that your character wouldn't seek out merchants to obtain rare and mysterious items.

I totally agree with op not just about things being hidden behind pay wall but also people not reading your post properly. Makes me angry when people leave sarcastic comments as if they are the forums police.

The point is that they could had very well just put any kind of bone, mammoth bone, human bone, simply any bone available straight from the base game to give everybody the same chance of getting the ingredients.

Very personally speaking, none of this bothers me because I don't play a game halfway and I am lucky enough to be able to afford to do so. It is my primary hobby, so I subscribe and buy all of the chapters to have full access to the game.

    A few other thoughts, though...

-I guess the event part is slightly different but this isn't really a new precedent or trend. Clam gall and powdered mother of pearl are ingredients and locked behind Summerset, as are on Bind on Pickup recipes available there.

-I am a big advocate for content moving to base game over time, especially if it impedes the community working together. For example, dungeons and trials not being available to all players which makes it even harder to find groups (especially tanks) to run the content. Even when I buy the content I support it ultimately being available to all later so more can enjoy it. However I also think crafting, buying, and selling are part of the game, and I like to see different money making options for players. For this example because everything can be bought and sold I think it is in the latter category rather than the former, which is another reason I am not too concerned with this.

-The other reason I would be worried about something like this would be if the items give advantage to "the elite" further widening the gap between raiders and the rest of the player base. So in other words those who don't buy the content MUST buy the items to "keep up" which means the people with tons of gold have an unfair competitive advantage. Since the food recipes seem niche and the materials are obtainable outside in overland Elsweyr or normal Fang Lair (not just in a trial or something) it is fairly accessible to all.

If it were my game I probably wouldn't have intertwined the event items and the paywall access quite like this but I don't see a large (or new) red flag here.
My #1 wish for ESO Today: Decouple achievements from character progress and tracking.

    That's not really the issue.

If these recipes were released in conjunction with an event that already required a player to own that piece of content, it would be fine. Instead what they did was release a recipe for an event accessible in the base game that those who don't own this content are going to have greater difficulty crafting. While it's possible this wasn't intended as a subtle nudge to buy that content, given $enimax's track record at this point I'm hardly willing to extend to them that benefit of the doubt. What really concerns me is that we will see more - not less - of this in the future.

As a reminder, component prices and availability vary by platform. It isn't that cheap on Xbox last time I checked, which admittedly was a little while ago. Requiring DLC style materials is especially onerous as you rarely see those listed in stores in the first place.

You can buy dragon blood and dragon bones and any other dlc/chapter related materials from guild stores.

Tamriel Trade Centre is your friend. Use it wisely.
