Thoughts on New moon acolyte set replacing majority of damage sets next patch?

I'm interested to see how this set turns out next update

So for those who dont know this is a craftable set
2 – 833 Weapon and Spell Critical
3 – 129 Weapon and Spell Damage
4 – 1487 Physical and Spell Penetration
5 – Adds 481 Weapon and Spell Damage. Increase the cost of your active abilities by 5%.

That 5% increase could most likely be negated with certain passives, and even so 5% isn't alot IMO.

Has anyone crunched the numbers on running this set with 3× infused cost reduction jewelry?

I can see it now- when the update drops and those bad 5 stars you wrote about in another thread are wearing this set, youre going to start a new forum thread "bad 5 stars in pvp wearing new moon acolyte".

This thread topic has been discussed through out the week.

For trials the penetration is a wasted set piece. I can reach the penetration floor with 9 CP, something i wont miss. crit can stack and be mulitplied much better than raw spell damage, so a set like mothers sorrow is a much more powerful set. Then you have superior trial sets like perfected sioria and false gods. Lastly you have comparable sets like BSW, spell strategiest etc... soo while yes this set really is a great craftable set its not gonna replace end game builds.

For pvp it will be a 2nd tier set. Strong and loaded with raw damage but no real spice to it.

More than anything this set just shows how poor almost every other craftable set is and how they need to be audited to similarly match NMA.

This has already been discussed for weeks. Where have you been? There are several threads about it.

The consensus is that the set is fine. The 5% cost increase is real, and no, it can't be "negated". You always have to sacrifice something.

There is one scenario where this set really shines: when you have a front bar full of cheap offensive skills and a backbar full of expensive defensive spells. You can put NMA on your front bar and something like a Willpower staff or whatever on the back bar.

If people (like me) sound a little snippy when they respond to your post, it's because there have been multiple attempts to get this set nerfed for no good reason. Many of us have been waiting for years for an interesting crafted set, and we don't want to see this one strangled in the crib.

Watch some ESO youtubers. Both pve & pvp. All of them are end-game players and all of them say that this set wont be bis because of flaw it has. Sustain is almost imposible with it. Next patch we have a global skill cost increase and... no one will be willing to have 5% more expensive skills & ultimate. Even if they will get more pen & weapon / spell dmg.

It could be BiS on a Breton. But you wouldn't really gain any power over an Altmer/Dunmer using an older set.

Now Mechanical Acuity + New Moon Acolyte going to make some fun Templar hybrid builds. After jabs became full Direct Damage.

This set is overpowered thats why I'm going to craft only armors for PVP because it will get nerfed like everything after few months and crafting jewelry will be huge waste of gold.

And your point is? Seriously whats is your problem with it? The only class might find usage is Sta Sorc, after that PVP and a bad one also since resources are precious.

There are far more powerful sets out there and this is proven on recent videos.
At least gives option to play the game as initially designed as a hybrid, like all ES games.

I'll try it out, but I don't think i'll really need to use it. My current setup is sustainable and effective on my main PvE dps. It is interesting though.

I won't be using it. For PvE I run PFGD+MS and it's way better, for PvP - BTB+Swift. It's a nice set for casual overland/dungeons play, but even then I don't see a reason for someone who already has Julianos to switch.

    P.S.

Anyone who says "just play a Breton to negate the downside, lul" - congrats, you've just negated the upside of playing a Breton.

    Uff. This again.

Battle Field acrobats grant's 6% cost reduction. NMA curses you with 5% cost increase. It has the drawback of nearly an entire 5 piece set bonus.

If you simply swap whatever damage set you're using for NMA and can still sustain just fine you were already oversustaining.

Compare it to hundings. You need cushion the resource strain, e.g. by swapping a dmg glyph with a regen glyph.

    HR: 299 wpn dmg + 1096 stam (10,5:1 ratio = 104 dmg) = 403 weapon dmg.
    NMA: 481 + 129 = 601 set dmg - 174 (swapped out non-infused jewel glyph) = 436 weapon dmg.

If you can manage with 5% higher costs, then kudos to you. Most people don't tend to over-regenerate.

Plus in pve raid settings the penetration isn't much of a boon.

Is it good in short, bursty fights? Sure thing. Ganking? Yes. But the toll it takes on your sustain should not be underestimatet.

From pure DPS point of view Spriggan/Spinner is still stronger even if you don't take 5% cost into account.
If you can easily negate that 5% cost, then your original build was over sustaining, simple as that.
This set will only be good because it can be front barred and thus avoiding it's negative effect on back bar, where your most expensive skills in most cases are.

It looks good but ZoS is increasing the resource cost in general, that 5% may create more problems than you think.
Combining with Bone Pirate or Shacklebreaker? Perhaps. I will not drop my Relequen for this, to be honest.
