Well to be honest, there's no easy solution to this if you're not willing to try and change the way you feel about your characters. The idea of so strictly only wanting to play one character isn't a very common one. Many people have a main (like your Templar) that they have the most achievements on, crafting and questing. You can keep playing new content on your Templar to complete it, while starting over on a new char. If your Templar is as finished as it sounds, what's the point in not starting another completionist run on the sorc? Why not do it again? The whole fun of making new chars is to start collecting things again, and if you have nothing more to collect on the Templar...
You're just depriving yourself of fun by forcing yourself to pursue something not enjoyable for you. What's the point of being completionist if it brings you no joy? And what's completionist about limiting yourself to one class, one game experience? Many people would argue that completionism entails at least playing each class once.
If sticking to Templar might make you stop playing the game, then don't stick to Templar.... Unless you feel you are done with the game. I wouldn't delete it either, and keep using it for crafting and achievements, but that's also your choice. If you enjoy playing Sorc, play Sorc. If the thought of gaining content progress in sorc brings you dread, say *** it and don't do it. Although I assure you you will still make progress, and rebuild faster than you think. You can try maybe just excluding certain categories of progress... So don't redo questing if you don't want to, but do seek to complete other things again. Again, if you have little things left to complete on templar, re-doing them on your new char will be just as fun and it will be nice to have something to work towards again. I understand the idea can be daunting, but trust me -- the worst thing that can happen to you is that you don't have goals anymore. You may want to reach the end, but you don't want to stay there.
One thing you can also do is try to reinvent your Templar and play it differently. And maybe it will help if you think of your characters as different savefiles? What's the line of thought for sticking to Templar? You stay with it, you get bored of the game... Maybe you take a break. And you start over. That is the life of any game experience, in a way. So why not start over now.
Anyway, I think you need to give yourself a bit of a push and let yourself enjoy the game, whatever that entails. You can either make a compromise and make your choice.... Or you can change the rules of your choice so you don't need to compromise. All of that is easier said than done if course, but that would be my advice. I do hope you can find the best solution for yourself.

I have the same issue..my main is a magden but I have been tempted to play a sorc for YEARS. They just look so cool! However I have so much progress on my magden that each time I log on my sorc which is only lvl 8 it just feels wrong. And I end up relogging after 5 minutes because I get this "ugh I've done this quest already" feeling..

Doing quests a second time is usually not nearly as much fun, because a lot of what's good about them are little plot twists.

On the plus side, doing content a second time is usually a lot easier than the first, both because you know what to do next and because you're generally a lot better at the game.

All that said -- what is it about the sorcerer that you think would be more fun than the templar? I'm the other way around, in that sorcerer was my original class and the one I was best at, but at this point I'm enjoying templar more, for reasons that include:
    • Sorcerers with pets don't have a lot of bar space, and sorcerers without pets don't have that much to recommend them.
    • Blazing Spear is, to me, a cool skill.
    • Puncturing Sweeps is, to me, a cool skill.
    • More generally, I like the point-blank AoE playstyle, and templar has a lot more of it with Sweeps and Solar Barrage.
    • If I have to rez in combat, it's nice to not also have to recast pets.

I also think Repentance is a fun skill, but even so I rarely use it.

Both classes are strong on the numbers, with sorcerers having better passive skills (a little more cost reduction than templars and more damage boosts), while templars have the great active skill Channeled Focus.

It sounds like you've answered your own question: You like playing sorc right now, want to keep your templar, and don't want to redo ALL the content on your sorc. That's fine

What content DO you want to do? Do you want to PvP? Dungeons? World bosses? Redo old quest lines?

All of these are good reasons to have an "alt". I have no regrets about making more than 1 character of every class because each class is so unique and different. You haven't experienced the whole game until you've thrown cliff racers at people's faces, whipped people with molten lava, and dropped an angry storm atronach on them

This is a game, not a job. If you don't enjoy the idea of redoing all the quests, don't do it. Or do it just a bit at a time.

My solution is to make a third character. You might find the anxiety to have a character do everything fades as you encounter the joys of each class. And at some point, Templar will sound fun again to you! I promise. Think of it as a vacation from your Templar. Have fun!

Example: I've decided to have my magblade be my PvP main, since I want Grand Overlord one day (which takes a LOT of PvP). But I still spend time PvPing on other characters because it's fun. I just sit down and think "What do I want to do today?" and do it. Sometimes, I don't even feed my horse ...

For me it also helps because I don't do trials and such. So I try to think "well does it matter if I have to do it all again? What else will I do? I don't even raid so I have time to do it all again!"

Roll 'em all. Play what you want.

There's no real reason to rerun old PvE content if you don't want to. If you do want to, it's still going to be there. There's also some interesting bits of cause and effect in the game, if you've done previous content, and in few cases (I'm looking at Coldharbour) there's interesting alternate dialog for blundering in blind.

I'd recommend trying the other five classes. All six are fun.

I have the exact same problem.

I'm sure you know that to make a functional character you don't really need thousands of hours you can make a really powerful character in just a few weeks or less depending ob how much you play. But it does feel like betraying your progress when you change mains because all you had is now gone, I understand how you feel.

My recommendation is that you do make a new character and try and get over that feeling of lost time, because that is how you're going to have the most fun in the game.

Hello, I have a very serious question and it's been bothering me for quite some time now. When I initially started playing this game I chose a Templar because I didn't realize the sorcerer would have had self-healing abilities, so just stay alive I made a Templar and began playing. Now I'm two years into the game and have only played this Templar character. I am a grandmaster Crafter. I know hundreds of crafting recipes, have done the main quest line, all three faction quest lines along with most of the side quest lines for each zone, I have completed the Morrowind, Somerset, murkmire, clockwork City, several of the dungeon DLCs, Elysweyr, and now scalebreaker. It may sound stupid to to you or not, but either way I am a completionist, and do not like to have more than one character, which is why I've only had this Templar for two years. Looking at everything that I've done it's a dread to think of what I'll have to do all over again on a new character but the sorcerer is an incredibly fun class for me I enjoy it much more than the Templar as I've leveled a Sorcerer up to 810. So now I'm sitting with a character that I don't even know if I want to continue playing on the sorcerer or give up and hope for one day zenimax making a class change token. I need some serious help with this because I really don't know that if I stay on the Templar I'll continue to play this game. I feel completely stuck between a character with all the progress and I do not enjoy, to a character that I very much enjoy but have no progress whatsoever. I'm sorry if this sounded a bit rambly, one I used voice to text, and I'm posting this at 3:31 in the morning, so I'm tired.

It sounds like starting another character is the only way to give yourself something else to do. You done did all the things on your main!

Just stop being stubborn and have more than one toon. Jfc This actually isn't that complicated. Keep your templar for completionism if you absolutely must have a toon that's done everything and use your sorc for fun and freedom without all the self imposed limits getting in your way.

You're literally sucking the fun out of your own game. Get out of your own head man, and just enjoy the game.

For me, the best thing in this game is creating a new toon and leveling the skillsets while going through all the different zones. I have created and leveled up over 50 toons during the past several years, and it's what has kept me in this game for so long. If it was just one toon only and doing the same thing/contents over and over again, I would have been done with this game years ago.

Same, so I made a sorc. I play the sorc. I like them. My templar by far has the most accomplished though. Every delve, every skyshard, every dolmen, every dungeon almost all vet HM, all of the zones except the TG DLC, vMA. In terms of achievements it easily has the most, and by a substantial margin.

My templar still does the new content when it comes out and I still chase some of the achievements. What I change is the role. I've gotten lately where I tank more with it. I have healed a good bit and I have DPSed.

I think I need a few more quests in a few zones for the hero achievement and it's tough to find the motivation, so I play my sorc for a while, or my warden. It'll be there when I'm ready. I'll go through spells where I won't play it as much, then I'll go back and pick up where i left off.

I created a collection of alts early on and have different ones starting different quest lines (each expansion/chapter and then the three alliance quest lines). I enjoy the character I first reached level 50 and then CP 160 with, but I don’t intend they will be my main for group content once some of my other characters are ready. They are my my main crafter so I will eventually get all skyshards with them, but for me, I would find it tedious to try to do everything on all characters, but also less fun to do everything on just one.

I’ve got, gulp, 11 characters. Each one of them plays very differently and has their own characteristics.

I wouldn’t go as far as to want to achieve everything on all of them, but I would say, “don’t be shy about creating new characters if you want to experience their play style”. Each one is different.

In terms of questing and levelling, there are so many different routes you can take that it’s easy to avoid constantly repeating things.

    Have fun.

    Depend on your play style.
However its many benefit of having multiple characters.
One obvious one is to hold more gear, another is other types of play styles.
Its also nice for events as you can you can repeat daily quests.

But no don't do everything on both, just the stuff you enjoy or is beneficial for you.
My main is the completionist the rest are not, even if
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

    __________________________Backstories:_________________________

Ras Kalik the Vestige, a renown Redguard warrior; He has been blessed to save Tamriel from Molag Bal’s destructive Planemeld while reuniting the Five Companions. His further accomplishments after defeating Molag Bal, has been to stop the destruction of Morrowind, the Clockwork City, return order to the isle of Summerset and create a new king in Wrothgar and a queen in Elsywer. These events have made him a living legend and continue to lead him into new adventures throughout Tamriel, as well as into the hearts of many ladies including the Elf Queen, Aryenn. Over many years of adventurous travels, Ras Kalik had become a loner, until he re-visited his homeland of Alik'r.

Alik'r and it's cities were overrun by the undead Ra-Netu and therefore he made an allegiance with Alik'r's own Ash'abah tribe. These Ash'abah with his help, cleansed the city of Sentinel in Alik'r desert and it's surrounding areas of the undead brought to life by the Withered Hand. After rescuing Sentinel from the undead zombies, King Fahara’jad’s personal bodyguard the Goliath of Hammerfell, who was given this name by Imperials in the region; was asked to assist the tribe after learning of the defeat of the Withered Hand to the Ash'abah. Kalik promised Goliath he would task him with fighting living enemies on the battlefield if he so desired. Goliath being a Yokudan warrior wields a massive sword in respect to the Ansei, a gift given by the Imperial, Cinan Tharn. Not many soldiers are able to wield double two handed weapons, but Goliath loves to get up and personal in a fight, so he also carries a giant maul, both weapons laced with magical flames.

Jux Blackheart is a master thief that masquerades as a Bard at the Sisters of the Sands inn, with his younger sidekick Lucky Hunch for pilfering and gambling during this time. Jux was known to infiltrate any towns bank vault he came across and even delved into Ayelid ruins without detection. Kalik can vividly recall the night he met the famed thief. Jux found himself rummaging thru a slightly inebriated Kalik’s pocket for too long, on a full-mooned night and because of his greed and the glimmer of his golden armor in the moonlight. He lost his left pinky fingertip as a lesson! But in return, he gained a new friend, as it was his first time since a child being caught red-handed...

Upon arrival back in the Alik'r after many moons of adventuring, Ras Kalik ventures to Bergama. Visiting The Winking Jackal, he runs into Jux Blackheart, who introduces him to the coin game Crowns vs Forebearers (Heads vs Tails) and Golden Dwemer (RBG).... Jux constantly takes gold from the unfortunate thru theft or gambling, his biggest gambling victim is actually his partner in crime known as Lucky Hunch the Gambler. Lucky doesn't mind losing any gold coins to Jux... as Jux saved him from Altmer slavers in Summerset, by stealing a key and sending him on a boat to the mainland years prior. Lucky spent years in slavery with Khajiits in Summerset and picked up the art of subterfuge, using illusion magic disguises and stealing there.

Kaotik Von’Daemon an outcast, and a half-caste between a Breton mother and a Redguard father. Kaotik become a pariah due to his conjuration of Daedra pets. He was taught healing magic during his childhood years by his Breton mother. His father due to Redguard customs exiled him from the desert, sending him by wagon caravan to be a soldier in the war in Cyrodiil. He happened to meet Kalik while traveling from Alik'r, during this long caravan ride the caravan he was in was ambushed in Bangkorai by a group of bandits. Kalik by chance was also traveling thru this area on his Auridon Warhorse (which was bestowed to him by his friend, Darien Gautier). During this ambush, Kalik was able to rescue five hostages from the bandits. Kaotik was the first rescued, and Ras Kalik also recruited him to be in the Ash'abah tribe. These core Ash'abah tribesmen may never be seen together in travel as they partake in their own adventures but they always know what each other is doing; as they frequent a hideout in northern Bankorai. Their hideout an old Orc castle ruin, is kept watch by Nuzhimeh and she passes messages written between them, and frequently they also enjoy her company and her bed.

The other men rescued were a Dunmer banker, an Imperial mercenary and two other soldiers, an Imperial and a Breton Knight, stating proudly he was an Akavir descendent. One of the Imperials, Cinan, claimed to be related to Abnur Tharn the Battlemage of the Imperial Elder Council (One of Ras Kalik's mentors in the Five Companions). Cinan Tharn was really Abnur's drunkard treasure hunting illegitimate son. He was caught smuggling artifacts out of the Ayleid ruins in Cyrodiil and the elder of the two Imperials was Tyrus Septim a retired Imperial navy battle-mage (now a Lycan mercenary living in the city of Rimmen) and guard to the Tharn family. As much as Abnur Tharn hated his half-sister Euraxia, he dislikes his bas†ard son Cinan more. Tyrus now a ruffian and privateer had been paid by Abnur Tharn to watch over Cinan as much as possible. Cinan Tharn a drunkard, loves to drink at least a quarter barrel of Nord mead before he raids various delves and dungeons for relics to sell on the black market. Cinan also plans to one day, run an illegal gambling ring... which he thinks will net him more gold for his wares.

The Dunmer captive shackled to the Imperials looked familiar to Kalik from his time in Morrowind.... and he recognized him as Tythis Andromo a House Telvanni slave-owner and banker from Vvardenfell. During a rough interrogation to Tythis, Ras Kalik learnt why the bandits accosted him. The racist Dunmer was providing slaves as soldiers for the Three Banner War. The bandits were trying to negotiate a lucrative ransom for Andromo and the Imperials.... Kalik did not need any of this gold and he could never set Tythis free as he did with the two Imperial soldiers. His past involvement with slavery and war crimes, made Kalik's blood boil. He chose not to execute Tythis, as he figured the worse punishment for this former rich and opulent slave owner, is to now be an imprisoned servant for Ras Kalik and the tribe.

Herzog Zwei the Genesis a reknown Imperial/Akavirri battle-mage. His roots going back to Akavir through his mother’s bloodline. (His mother is descended from the Akaviri, through Versidue-Shae, and his Imperial father met her in Hakoshae, while traveling) Herzog earned the nickname "the Genesis" from his father as a child, as he was his mother's first born child, and last, as she tragically died in child-birth.

Herzog was seeking to purchase an artifact from Cinan Tharn, before their capture and was meeting Tyrus while in Rimmen, who introduced him to Cinan. This artifact being the Ayelid artifact; the sword Sinweaver. After their rescue and the exchange of gold to Cinan for the sword he decided to slip away before Ras Kalik could question who he was, and why the Akavir descendant really wanted that sword. Herzog was headed to Nagastani — An Ayleid ruin in eastern Cyrodiil. He had read in scrolls that the Sword would give him magical powers to meet his mothers spirit, if he performed an Ayleid ritual at an old shrine hidden there. Equipped with the artifact sword, he was off to start his own adventure but Ras Kalik, did indeed notice the sword however and instead sent a letter to Jux Blackheart (whom also was interested in Ayleid treasures), to attempt to find Herzog and acquire the sword. (*Azani Blackheart in Elder Scroll's Oblivion is Jux's descendant some 747 years later)

And so the Redguard, Imperial and Akaviri men parted ways ... While Ras Kalik went off to Elsweyr to encounter the latest threat to Tamriel, with Abnur Tharn and Sai Sahan - - DRAGONS!! Little did Ras Kalik know a few people were awaiting him in Senchal besides Sai. A necromancer survived his attack on the Withered Hand, while in Alik'r. The necromancer known as Auriek Siet'ka is also following him to the land of the Khajiits and Cacique the Sage of Ius a Shaman mystic who has become attuned spiritually with Tu'whacca (a Redguard God) and Ius (the Animal God), after being burned severely by the escaped dragons in Elsywer, is awaiting his arrival also. Aurik is a soldier of the Daggerfall Covenant that was introduced to necromancy while in the military, even though this magicka art is not spoken of openly by most of the Military leaders. He came to Alik'r and worked with the Withered Hand before Ras Kalik intervened on their plans. After the defeat of the Withered Hand, he aligned with the Worm Cult, and is constantly adapting and perfecting his necromantic arts.

After his journey to Rimmen, Kalik heads south to Senchal, in the southern regions of Elyswer. This new adventure will also put him on a path to meet a strange Redguard man. The stranger which was infected with an untreated Peyrite disease and also was the exiled from the Order of the New Moon cult, due to his sickness. He originally joined the cult to worship Laatvulon, the green dragon, mistakenly thinking it was the Daedric prince Peyrite. This confused and suffering cultist is known as Tsar al-Bomba and he is on a path to spread the disease. He was originally infected in Orccrest while recruiting members there. Can Ras Kalik and the shaman Cacique cure this poor soul, only time will tell. Little does Tsar al-Bomba know, that his infection is tied to Vampirism, and eventually the desire for blood will take over his mind. Senchal also offers Kalik his latest love interest... Aeliah. Whom he fondly led thru battles with the Dragonguard.

After the trek thru the heat, tropical and desert climate of Northern and Southern Elyswer, Ras Kalik heads north to the cold mountain range of Skyrim. His companion friend Lyris beckons for him with a letter sent by crow...

Movárth Piquine - a former vampire hunter (now infected), within the Fighter's Guild (and a secretive necromancer) was in Skyrim working with the Morthaal Guard. On a patrol mission he was caught in Frewien's ice curse outside of Morthaal with the frozen undead. Movárth's vampiric infection kept him from becoming an undead minion to the curse. He was able to use necromantic ice-magic to encase himself safely until he was freed with Freiwen, when the Vestige Ras Kalik broke the curse.

Uri Ice-Heart - brother of Urfon Ice-Heart. The twin sons of Atli and Oljourn Ice-Heart. The Ice-Heart family are originally from Markarth but now reside on the Jerall Mountain range near Cyrodiil, with their younger sister Araki. The twins had joined the Winterborn Reachmen while living in Markarth. Urfon pushed west to Orsinium with the Winterborn Clan, leaving his family behind. Uri stayed behind with his parents and sister to live in the family cabin for safety, avoiding the Vampire plague infiltrating the Reach. After news reaches him and he hears of Urfon's death... Uri leaves and heads home and is seeking vengeance. Meanwhile, his sister has also moved on to Windhelm to join the Fighter's guild. He will visit his sister, once before going to seek vengeance and she will craft him armor mixed with ice, called Stalhrim armor. Uri fearing death, after his brother's passing, falls victim to the convincing talk of Movárth at a Nordic tavern, and will also becomes a vampire.

I have a lot of fully leveled alts and have repeated much of the PvE content, so my answer is biased. But I'd say roll with the Sorc you are enjoying now. Being a completionist can make it tough if you feel you have to do everything again, on the other hand, if you actually do redo the content you can make different choices. Few of them impact the game at all, but if you threw Valaste under the bus for skill points last time, this time you can save her from mean old Uncle Sheo. If you are into RP at all, play your new toon as a flighty character that never completes anything. While it takes forever to do everything again, it doesn't take horribly long to level enough skills and get enough skill points to be competent with a character

Lots of good advice in here. One thing I'll add that I haven't seen yet - consider changing the type of Templar you play for a while.

Besides PvP, just in PvE there are at least four of each class - magicka DPS, stamina DPS, Tank, and Healer. Not to mention hybrid builds. Maybe it's time to, say, switch to a stamplar if you've been a magplar for a while if you are bored. Maybe you enjoy Sorc more, or maybe Templar has just gone stale.

    Something to try, anyway.
My #1 wish for ESO Today: Decouple achievements from character progress and tracking.

My ‘main’ (i.e. favorite and most played to this day in PvP and PvE) is the fourth char I made. I now have 14 fully leveled and fully gold geared chars (cp 1220). My first four leveled through the VR system to VR 16 individually because cp didn’t exist and VR wasn’t account wide.

Play a few different classes in mag and stam and find a char you love as opposed to quitting. To be honest, I enjoyed playing everything again on multiple characters for achievements, skill points, etc.

Fishing, I would never do on even a second character. First was fun’ish...not again.
Max CP long, long ago... 16 max chars.

My original main was a dk that i played as a hybrid early on (was back when duel wield magika was a thing), when i returned to the game i made it a magdk and when my friends were going to return (which they bailed on) i made it a tank and started rolling a sorc for solo play. I now have a warden healer and almost finished a new magdk because i missed it.

Long story short maybe explore some different roles in group play, that and finding a desent guild is what keeps it fresh.

Never done stam so will do that next not sure which type though.

Just make another character and get them to CP. There is no reason to have to do all the content over. You already have a crafter and many achievements. I have the character I created first who has obviously done the most content, master crafter, all motifs, etc. but I also have 12 other characters with nowhere near the same progress.

I understand that frustration, when I first started this game I made a Dragonkight, a Templar and a Sorcerer but I barely played until the Warden was released. I was frustrated trying to choose which class to play and how am I was going to be able to develop all this characters. It took me quite a while to actually feel comfortable with any of them while attempting to go for the solo play and basically not know jack about how things really worked in this game. So since I had pre ordered Morrowind to get the gray bear and make a Skaal Nord so i decided to stick with it as a main. It was a struggle, I didn't enjoy any of it at first being clueless. Anyways I didn't choose the Tanking Life, the Tanking Life chose me and that is what saved this game for me, Tanking with my Warden, Healing with my Templar.

I am very much the same way. so here is some advice.

    there will always be regrets

if you play a sorc and try to start over as it were you will regret it, and if you stay as a templar you will regret not playing a sorc, neither regret is better or worse then the other (this is life advice too)

if you are truly having more fun, like actually just have more fun on the sorc then anything else, then play that until such time as they do implement a way to switch class (at some point they will, there is money to be made)

don't delete your main, just sit on it.
    ESO player since beta.
    game got too disappointing.

Anymore I stand a goat's head Oasis dark anchor while listening to music every night witches become the standard when I log onto this game.

Well, that's a recipe for burnout.

I just still don't understand why they never made a class change token.

It wouldn't work. I don't remember anyone from ZOS ever publicly going into the details of why that doesn't work. But, apparently, things get weird.

i had same issue in gw2, i started as ranger did everything up untill season 4 with ranger, i had 4 legendary weapons on my ranger and full ascended gear( max gear) then i realized i like mesmer much more and i am better at it in pvp, it was very hard decision to start over, but i put myself through it and now it is done and i feel much better when playing gw2, at start it is hard but it worth it because it is mmo and meant for long term. new content coming every year and you know you play them with class you like and you are good at playing that class , so yeah it worth it in my opinion.

If you want to experiment with new characters go ahead you can always go back to your main whenever you want, you only need to worry about which ones to keep once you have used up all your character slots.

My advice is not to bother doing quests on alts, especially if you have done most of them on your main, level the character doing more enjoyable stuff, dungeons, battlegrounds, just experiment with gear that is not suitable for your main character that you have had your eye on, try out the different ish combat styles the other class's skills give you etc..

I usually lose interest in my alts and go back to my main, I always end up re specking my alts to do daily writs after a while.
