I'm a bit torn on the overwrite dots thingy. It could really *** you up if you're somewhat reliant on dots secondary effect like heals or you use it to proc stuff (surge, sets, etc.)

But I'm really excited about the stam sorc changes. Assuming they are for real.

Exactly, imagine trying to duo as 2x magDKs. "I wanna ember" "NO I wanna ember" "no heals for you!". Seems like a moronic fix, all that guesswork. You're either examining the target for DoTs or wasting GCDs. Just tone the dots down 10-20%.

We didn't have these problems before they buffed the *** out of DoTs.

But it would potential force more class diversity and strategically it would pay to have smaller groups hitting more spots. But it doesn’t quite add up. Either this is all made up or the big picture hasn’t come into focus. It could be that a few changes sound good but the overall changes are going to be much less interesting.

Exactly, not only that it doesn't add up, it's also a little self defeating. Now that they fiddled with classes to the point where everyone is using the same generic skills, it doesn't make much difference which class you're on.

Which dots do I use on classes that don't bring much own dot power to the table? E.g. mag/stam sorc. Entropy, Soul Trap, Reach? Too bad, your entire dot arsenal is useless. Poison Injection, Rending Slashes, Carve? No DoTs for you.

Beside that I'm really not keen on becoming useless just because someone is running the same class or set up as me. Forcing teams to use different classes is difficult when you only have so few to choose from. Also you have zero input on whom you're running across in Cyro.

It also raises question on how they will hande ground dots, pbaoe dots and ultimates like caltrops, hurricane, ballista.

Anyway, let's wait and see how much of that is actually true.

This is exactly old burning embers problem reintroducing for everyone..
Now back again, for example Entropy mana restore proc only while dot lasts and only when hitting affected enemy; another morph heals only when dot lasts. So overwriting dots negating bonuses of both morphs. Unless they will change morphs effects to be independant from damage.

    @Cinbri
this is only a problem if you Xv1 somebody. they are also going to change proc sets, no more overpowered overwhelming and auroran cheese. imagine, when they also change living dark i bet a lot of people will have to learn to play mhmm.

It's always an issue unless you're Xv1 or small scaling in remote spaces because you can't controll who shows up. Plus everyone runs Soul Trap, Entropy etc.

Big nerfs to zergplay if this is true.

They need to be careful with the DoT nerfs in PvE. They nerfed the *** out of all our other skills so that DoTs would become BiS. They may need to revert some of those previous nerfs.

Ok do they really need to nerf the initial damage of onslaught? Jesus Christ stam ultimate choices are going to be garbage. I hope it’s a minor nerf because DBoS is pretty lame rn and just not even worth using over Onslaught.

DBoS wasnt nerfed when compared to onslaught - onslaught was buffed into the sky, thats why nobody uses DBoS anymore. Even magicka toons use it (me included), its sick, none of my magicka ultimates can hit as hard as onslaught + providing such riddiculous buff for 12s :D

    1. I think it was written in those notes as PvP-only. (It would obviously be horrible in PvE Groupfinder PUGs.)
    2. I doubt there's any problem with skills' true secondary effects. E.g., the Major Sorcery buff from Entropy lasts a lot longer now than the damage does.
    3. Yeah, it could be a big issue with procs.

Hey guys, just wanted to clear some things up here. First, we did ask players not to take photos or videos of the gameplay since it was still a heavy work in progress, but we weren't escorting people out who did.

The build that was being shown was not the PTS build. Anyone who is saying otherwise is wrong and making things up. This build was taken from early August, so what people saw was already out of date. Any screenshots that are being circulated are mostly fake as many of the combat changes weren't even implemented into this build yet or weren't close to being finalized. Please take any information you see with a large grain of salt. The focus of the gameplay being shown at the event was on the zone of Southern Elsweyr and its content.

We are planning to post a high level summary of changes that are going into the upcoming PTS update, and will be posted within the next week or two.

Excellent, thanks a lot. However, if overwriting the damage of others is still on the table, please relay some of the concerns expressed here. IMO this is a very bad way to curtail stacked damage if that damage is considered too high.

Some of the comments seem legit, though the details are probably in a lot of flux.

I am reluctant after this disaster of a patch that removed all class identity and increased DoT wars to an ungodly level to go through all 16 of my characters and revise builds at this point.

I believe the part where ZoS may realize it is a mess right now but then ask myself why they didn't listen when they were getting this feedback while it was on PTS?

Furthermore, with all class identity stripped away in the Scalecaller patch that basically has so many asking why even have classes anymore, there is going to have to be some MAJOR class skill reworking to fix the destruction of the Scalecaller patch. If they do manage to fix this (I am not holding a lot of hope on it), it is going to mean all builds need to be reworked again.

If it is true about having a 5 sec GCD on Proc sets, the this is further going to upend the builds as they stand today. Furthermore, I hope this isn't implemented halfway - many sets, especially monsters sets, are going to need to be completely reworked if this is true. Kind of hard not to have two proc sets in DPS builds.

I have played MMOs for many years and I am used to constant class balance. I have never seen an MMO that basically upended all the gameplay in one patch like the Scalecaller patch did - basically wiping out years of effort in building your charaters. Furthermore, this is happening more now and it just gets frustrating to have to rebuild 16 characters over again with each patch every three months. Outside of maybe three characters right now, I don't even want to go through the effort because - with the supposed class identity fixes - all of this work is going to be thrown out the window when Dragonhold drops.

ZoS, do the class balance patch and then stick to small adjustments after that. Stop wiping out players' work in building their toons wholesale. It is frustrating, and people don't play a game to be frustrated.

She didn't confirm it to be fake - she said to take things with a grain of salt.

That means some of it may be true, other things may not, and still some things may change.

However, the overall tone of certain things said already fits with things that have been published - such as re-establishing class identity after having completely wiped it out in the Scalebreaker patch.

What I was trying to say is I hope ZoS realizes how frustrating this is for players to have everything you worked on wiped out in one patch. From racial changes, to this homogenization patch that is a total mess, to now the upcoming class identities changes.

Adjustments here and there are to be expected - it is an MMO afterall. But to completely wipe out everything the game has been up to this point was a bit much with Scalecaller. All we can hope for is that they fix this with the Class Identity patch and then it becomes a small series of adjustments after that - not a wholesale wipe out of everything it has been up to that point.

Again, the people playing the demo at PAX were 100% casual, no way they would have made beyond the outskirts of Senechal and actually explored the map. You'd have to go in knowing what to look for if you were any bit serious about getting solid information regarding gameplay/balance/trial stuff.

Just because they are showcasing Dragonhold content does not mean they're showcasing balance content. That's probably an entirely separate team and timeline, so we'll have to wait to know for sure.

Whatever changes there are (if any) are likely to be changed by the time PTS is open, and definitely by the time Dragonhold hits live.

pls no forum riot over dragonhold preview screenshot

Thanks for the chuckle, I needed that. Track record would show otherwise however. We all know by now that any change made by ZoS is virtually unchangeable from the moment they made it no matter how much feedback the playerbase or Class Representatives make. What you see is 99% what we will eventually get.
