when ZoS is going to give us a built in minimap ?

7 years and still no minimap available by default. Only possibility is to use addons.

I think ZoS should:
  1. rework the map code because it has weird performance impact.
  2. add a minimap to the game by default,

that way consol players can experience a true mmo game

The minimap addons just reactivate the one they designed for the game, IIRC. Its strange that they took it out.

My guess is performance issue is why they took the original mini map out.
    Not to mention screen clutter.

At this point in the lifespan of ESO you would think that some of the popular addons from the community would be added to base game. Quality of life for our console brethren is important.

I genuinely feel sorry for you console guys. Minimap addon was the first thing I installed and I couldn't imagine ever playing without it.

Do you really need a minimap though? it's not like the game is difficult to traverse and should you actually manage to get lost, you can still press M for a quick glance at your map.
Not to mention that you do have your compass already. Personally I'd prefer the HUD to be kept as minimalist as possible so if this absolutely has to be a thing, then please make it toggleable.

No one needs a minimap. I don't need a comfy gaming chair in front of my PC, I could just sit on a crate of oranges [snip]. It's about convenience. Console players should at least have the option if they want it.

That's exactly the problem, having to do that literally every 10 seconds to see if you are in the right spot or direction becomes a very frustrating experience having to switch screens *constantly*. A simple minimap you can glance at helps immensely and would even compliment the compass at the top-middle screen. Just depending on that compass becomes a mess, especially since all of the pins are the same color (quests, wayshrines, etc). The messed up part is ESO used to have a minimap built-in, and guessing they removed it for "immersiveness" aspects, yet switching screens constantly to see your map takes away from this experience thus having the exact opposite effect. Bring it back Zos. A minimap is a good QoL feature and it doesn't hurt anything to include it as a feature, especially in the case of newer players and those migrating from other MMO's that are already used to having it. Many players (including myself when I started) expect to see a AAA MMO have a minimap, and are perplexed to find there isn't such a thing. My vote goes toward this feature built back into the game, make it have the option to be toggled on/off to please everyone. I really hope ZoS' focus over the next few years are actually going to be QoL and Performance improvements, the two areas where ESO is weakest IMHO.

I feel lucky to be on PC and have so many useful addons already built by the community itself, hopefully ZoS is taking notes of which ones are the most popular because it's a very obvious indicator of what players want to have in ESO. It's simple to see.

The zones are relatively small enough that a mini map isn't too useful, but there might be certain situations where it'd come in handy. I think it'd be different if it was completely open world, and not zones.

Agree, same as dungeon and bg finder tools the map was made by a low skill devs (maybe a trainee).
That's why they removed minimap since it has a huge impact on performance.

Its very useful in group content to keep track of my party members.

An example of where I find it very convenient: As the tank, I'm often in the lead, so the minimap gives me a quick and at-a-glance way to make sure my group is following - or to find out that one of the DDs is back with the quest NPC because *surprise* they needed to do the quest.

I couldn't play without a minimap. I have one of the worst orientation ability ever. Votan's Minimap is basically the normal map, nothing fancy or ressource heavy, no border marker or anything... Just your normal map that you stick in a corner of the screen.

    Thank you, Votan.

Yeah, getting rid of the compass is a bad idea. There are people who are mighty fine using it, others who would rather use a map... The good solution is to have both as options that can be toggled on / off. Use compass, map, both ? Should the map rotate, or always be aligned with the north at the top ?

Can't be that bad to implement. Should have been a base feature. But as always with every Elder Scroll games, it's up to the community to fix the dev's shortcomings when it comes to the interface.

There is a mini map as part of the game already. ZOS just has chosen not to link it to the binding commands and provides no other way to access it. An addon called Votan's Minimap just gives you access to the mini map in the game.

So yeah, they are lazy in not finishing the code needed to what they have the most work done on. They can even look to see how Votan did it to add the code themselves.

Huge face-palm moment for not adding this so all platforms can use your mini-map. @ZOS_GinaBruno @ZOS_JessicaFolsom

After all none of the ES game have a mini map since they want you to explore.

I guess you guys didnt play the beta,
It was one of the major fight poeple had with the devs.

Those people have probably never done crafting surveys then. Having to use the internet to look up a picture, because the survey is just a vague X on a piece of paper. Same for lore books. Having to stop every 5 feet to check the map: is it here? No. Is it...HERE? No... That's why I have like 100 surveys on my crafter. It's so much of a pain to even bother with them. The jewelry ones are easy though.

TES 3 Morrowind's minimap wasn't a great help when I got really, really lost trying to find that stupid kwama mine in the grazelands because no one thought to give me precise directions, but we definitely had one.

I learned as a boy to navigate unfamiliar terrain with a compass and a map. Never need to stop and check a map every 5 minutes. In game, it is just as easy, if not easier for me. I also like the very minimalistic look that it provides, while still giving good information on the compass bar.

That being said, I am not opposed to them adding one for players who prefer them. Just hope it is a toggleable option and not shoved down peoples throats.

On a related note, I have noticed that many of the people who use them are also those prone to getting lost more frequently. Perhaps this can provide an opportunity for players to develop a neglected skill set.

As a newer player to ESO, I am used to having a mini-map on my screen in the other MMO's that I have played in the past. This is something that I think should be included in the base game, and IMO is lacking from what I think a modern MMO should have.

If I'm trying to get from point A to point B. The mini map can help me follow the road on the map when the terrain does not match what I think looks like a road, and it keeps me from constantly pressing M all the time.

Not having the mini map makes the game less playable IMO, and makes it more frustrating to me, and a less enjoyable game experience.

In Summary, I will say Yes, I do need that mini map, and other Quality of Life Add-ons.

Sure but only if its toggleable. I dread the sound of something like this blocking a portion of my screen.
