Could it be because Steam is a predatory company that lures new studios, desperate for low cost distribution, only to (4-letter word beginning with R) them later when those studios are successful and dependent?

Valve/Steam is one of the most vile tech companies in America.

but I think the OP is suggesting that a lot of his ESO-related Discord channels do not talk about ESO...instead it's non-related topics.

And somehow these conversations on Steam will only be about the game and nothing else? Unless Steam is moderating all it's comms channels and filtering out non game related chat and discussions, which I highly doubt, Steam is not the answer to the OPs woes.

Seems to me the OP could solve his problem by creating his own Discord Server, and kick anyone who dares discuss anything not related to the game at hand. Or on Steam. Or on Teamspeak. Or any other Voice Comms System.

I wasn't even aware Discord was a store, I just use it as an amazingly well working free chat. It's so god damn easy to join servers with tons of like minded individuals like yourself. It's easy to mute servers you dont want to deal with now, and just unmute them when you need something from them again. Simple, easy and unintrusive.

I really don't understand why this thread should have anything to do with Discord, your suggestions about steam and such sounds nice, but why should that make me stop using Discord? Im sorry I dont get it.

Steam sucks. I bought the base game twice just so I don’t have to login using steam. Took two times for me and only steam users not to be able to login for me to see the light.

OP is that edgy guy who hates all popular products because they are popular and proceeds to use inferior methods to prove a point that 90% of the users already decided for themselves.

I guess the OP didn't go through the various steam outages where ESO clients couldn't connect to the game because those accounts were purchased post November 2016.

I don’t care for Valve Corp, or their Steam client. Discord has some security holes that I don’t love, but for voice and chat communication on multiple channels across multiple platforms, it’s pretty top-notch.

Most people don't play this game through Steam.

But ultimately this is what happens when developers cheap out and don't include built-in voice servers. You need to use third party software, and Discord is the best solution around.

IMHO, much easier to use a forum + TS / mumble + jabber (little to no insidious farming of your data that way). Usenet was perfectly fine, but I realise that ship has sailed.
Even on the internet, clear communication is important; it can be the difference between "helping your Uncle Jack off a horse" and "helping your uncle jack off a horse"; the difference between "knowing your s***" and "knowing you're s***".

Who cares? This is a complete nonissue considering Discord has a browser client. If they give you a link, literally just open it up in Chrome or Firefox or whatever, and you can talk directly in your browser. If they only give you the invite code, go over to discord.gg in your browser, paste the code in, and you can talk directly in your browser.

Eh I use the launcher.... I dont see why I should have it on steam really especially when steam has a bunch of update issues and data corruption issues when updating to new patches causing download loops that occur over and over and over.

Steam has the better store, Discord has the better chat functionality (both voice and text), hence unless it changes, I will continue to use Steam for getting the games (and for running them on Linux when applicable), and I will continue to use Discord for the chat. It's really simple as that.

I don't play on steam. Their is no reason to use steam when you can use the in game luncher option and then zos don't have to pay the steam cost.

    My machine is steam-free.

No thanks, nice idea though, but I don't install malware upon your suggestion.

I don't see why you think that steam is a malaware. it doesn,t even spy what is your hardware and has to run a survey to ask you what kind of PC you have lol.

    Steam is not origin.

TeamSpeak is my main, good and simple with no useless chat. Not a big fan of Discord and only use it when I have to, too many bells and whistles for me.

BTW mine is a Steam game but I do not use it to log in, I use the game launcher from my ESO files, good and simple. Using the Steam launcher causes too many problems, not least buying Crowns.

Steam is a bad option for communication. I had it for years because I bought games in a store that required steam to play. But to be able to use the profil, add and write with friends you have to buy something through steam first, I mean it was a minimum of 5€. So nope I buy games when I want and where I want, but this feels like I'm forced to buy just to be able to talk with someone I could also write with ingame. Also steam is annoying, updates all the time and I actually never use it. And I haven't seen any guildtools there.

I was in more than one guild that had its own forum and website with ts Server, I believe it's a common combination for german guilds. And another guild used a vk.com group as their guildsite together with telegram as reminder for trial and pvp raids and ts for voice. It was successfull maybe because it's a russian guild and these are like facebook and whatsapp in other parts of the world. What I see most in the last time is discord, but people rarely use it for voice.
Main char is a Strong Nord Man, Thief, Vampire, Healer, Mastercrafter. PC-EU since 2016.

I'm going to go way out on limb here, and say this player didn't seem to know. ESO isn't a steam game. ;)

Other than being misinformed, why on this earth would anyone want the crippled steam version of ESO? The steam version is down sometimes for long periods of time. So basically the OP made the mistake of buying this steam version, and wants us to jump onto his sinking ship. He basically wants us to rebuy the game, and play a sometimes limp version of ESO as if we don't have enough issues already. To be honest, there is no bundle of items or free crowns that could ever make me switch to a steam version.

Hmm, after some painstaking deliberation, ;) I've come to a conclusion. Buying the game directly from ZOS was, and still is a better choice. So, no thanks.

I never stated this, nor implied this. My input was merely on Discord, and how certain guilds require you to get on Discord but when you do join the Discord server you don't even talk about ESO.

And I would agree with your second statement, as that seems the only route for the OP to ensure ESO related discussions happen on ESO mediums... make your own channel.
