Fewer Healers, Uglier Streams

I am willing to wait until the final patch and update goes live until orbpocalypse becomes something I react towards.

However, I have seen what sudden changes to healers has done to another popular MMO that I also main, and only main, a healer.

There will be fewer healers available for dungeon finders. Very few main healers will want the hassle of healing difficult content without being frustrated by their current toolkit, especially non-Templar healers (I main a Warden Healer - back when we were considered inferior to templars).

Also, from an esthetic standpoint, shooting (Templar) shards constantly during trials is going to make for or uglier streaming.

I sincerely hope that one orb is all we need, similar to bone shield, wherein it does not pop over an individual players use of it, but everyone can synergize from it until it goes away. The orb spam we were doing before was a bit ugly during stream plays and were visual distractions.

I can queue up easily and quickly for that other mmos as an "Adventurer in need" because fewer people want to play healer since the expansion update. It's great for leveling healers, but in ESO, I would not be surprised if there were Dungeon Finders that would be difficult to find healers, or fake healers popping up just to get complete a random daily.

My hope is that these changes are altered by the time this patch goes live.

It sucks that we've gotten to the point where Streamers hold influence over what changes should be made.

Back when they did the great templar nerf (and a ton of class nerfs everywhere)) everyone predicted no healers, no sustain, dps to low etc. Patch landed and everyone moved on, made a few changes and played as usual. My guess is people will do new set combos, change champ points etc, and everyone will move on and play like normal.

My one real concern is that ZOS will continue to not really look at feedback on changes and as usual only look for bugs (during the great templar nerf there was a thread with 86 pages of feedback for templar and not one response from ZOS)

Healers will be fine, the game will be fine and who cares about streams/streamers? Hopefully not ZOS.

Ugly...streams? ZOS is finally addressing over-healing in Cyrodiil (which could possibly have the effect of improving performance), and you’re concerned that shards spam will make trial streams...aesthetically ugly?

Honestly for templars ritual uptime is going to be a focus that heal is going to help a lot now its getting buffed. Regeneration etc the HoT buff is nice but the single target near random heal is going to be pointless unless you position yourself accordingly same for orbs so that you make sure stacked DDs dont steal the orb intended for the tank. We templars still have BoL spam but its still like.... nobody wants to be a BoL bot.

I dont want these changes to go live, I hate them but if they do I will adapt. I just wish they had left the healing springs change at 44% decreased healing instead of forcing a single cast like the old days. Not even going to bother saying anything about orbs its all been said.

ZOS does care a lot about streamers and often check out the streams themselves and provide comments. Along with the data they collect in-game, they also look at how the game performs visually and if the aesthetic will attract new players.

Streamers are given hands-on access and provide feedback as class reps as well. They can even provide giveaways that can only be unlocked through them.

I would be very surprised of Fengrush (for example) responds to the patch notes and none of the devs or community managers "pop up" to review feedbacks.

I’ll start playing one of my three healer characters more, as I figure they’ll be in demand. Of course you’ll see even more fake healers que to skip the DPS waiting line, and the nerfs to self heal will make this really hurt. I expect to see a lot of “Fake healers are a problem” threads.

Seems to be the case. I'd support them if they actually were good and didn't exploit the latest builds (just because you CAN do it...does it mean you SHOULD do it).

As it stands currently, most of them attract...inexperience and little else.

Very, very few players were "over-healing". We had more people slipping through doors than over-healers.

I agree that fellow healers went into a panic over the templar changes, but things have changed since then. There are new competitors to the MMO market and players moonlighting in other games could take lengthier "breaks" which would affect the game.

Also, the templar changes were class changes, as opposed to these recent "proposed" are role changes.

I only play as a tank in PvE, but I'd love to see this done if they are going with the one orb route.

I'll watch for changes before the nerfs go live but my first cut at the moment if the proposed nerfs don't change is that my main Templar healer will likely throw away her resto staff, go dual shock staves and go from being a pug healer who does a bit of damage to a dps who packs a couple class healing skills that she may sometimes use to help others around her. Yeah, I'm not pleased at the moment. As a 'pug' healer, groups are too undisciplined to reliably stack so Combat Prayer has never been on her bar. If the proposed changes go live, Springs and Mutagen will not be not worth a slot either. So why carry a resto staff? Too much loss of flexibility to have fun as a healer I figure.

Unfortunately, that is not true. Streamers can be a great promotional tool for any platform, especially video games. They, and Content Creators, have influence over people and Marketing Strategists know this which is why you'll see them cater to Streamers and other people who are actively promoting the platform (in this case ESO).

Was watching Fengrush's patch notes reviews last night/this morning. The changes to healers and they are already doing a middle ground with orbs so they will be fine. The changes are needed I think. There will still be lots and lots of healers in eso. Maybe not as much overhealing but . At the same time this is going to improve performance. I do think Fengrush is correct on this. So I hope these changes go through. You might not be able to spam overhealing as much anymore. But that does not mean there won't be healers. There will always be a demand of healers somewhere.

Oh wait... so we are admitting now that these changes are because of PvP? ;)

There is no question that healers (and all of us) can adapt. We do every patch. I probably wouldn't have bothered commenting on the forums at all if the abilities had been changed to be more expensive or limited to, say, 3 stacks/orbs. Nerfs are normal around here.

The issue here is that for PvE our flexibility, mobility, and ability to plan and position heals in non-stacked groups is severely being limited, which will make healers much less necessary in easy content and much less effective in difficult content. And the role will be less fun and dynamic.

This is a game. It should be fun. So while yes, people can adapt, the question is... will they bother? I think many will not. They will quit or switch to a role that will be more fun this patch.
My #1 wish for ESO Today: Decouple achievements from character progress and tracking.
