Begin your life of crime...

This recent post reminded me how crime-oriented this game is.

Can we begin a life of justice for a change, please? Am I alone not very fond of murderers and thieves? I think, the one who's not into crime stuff should have better options, than just completely ignore a big part of the game content.

You could RP that your character is under a mind control spell for 10 days while the event is taking place. At then end, you find an ill-gotten feather in your pack and your mind is blank, having lost the last 10 days to some sort of blackout. You have to discover what happened during that time and as you uncover your dark secret, you must now atone for your evil doings and chase down the wizard who put you in that position to begin with... Might as well keep that feather though. You could find some use for it later.

Then don't complete those parts of the game, simple. You won't complete those skill lines or get the costumes by not doing it though.

Which I am really not quite getting since, as you adventure throughout the land, you kill endless amounts of Tamriel's fine inhabitants. Looting their fresly laid corpses without much of a thought.... :)

Though each to their own ig.

Morag Tong: "Murder is totally legal if a wealthy Dunmer pays us to do it. I've got a writ!"

I don't kill "Tamriel's fine inhabitants". I kill quest mobs, or monsters in overland. Though not many of the latter, as I don't find it fun to kill my way through zone after zone.

I keep killing cultists, worm cultists, former cultists of Kynareth who turned evil, bandits, more bandits, the Orc-thane's soldiers, baby-murdering Altmer, treasonous Altmer, egg-smashing Bosmer, rogue Imperial legionnaires, Euraxians, Covenant invaders, Dunmer slavers, and a whole bunch of people who presumably have mothers who love them...

    Indeed!

I mean, I have some ruthless characters who would murder anything from harmless granny to a baby in the cradle if the price was right... but I also have some lawful good characters who would not touch any 'crime' if their life depended on it! (And get severely vexed by the fact that they are stuck with a mandatory TG membership for visiting abahs langing to grab skyshards...)

And I really would LOVE to see some "Either-Or" guild uptions in that regard.
I mean, I would have loved to have the option back then too, get two stories for the TG or DB DLC... but alas, that is not how it went.
Despite that missed chance, I still would -love- to see them remove all TG memberships from anyone who has NOT completed the TG intro quest, and instead give those who did not join the thieves an other option - and join some "Enforcers Guild" instead.

Actually... the Morag Tong is -not quite- just for the highest bidder (though that certainly also comes into things), but... also involves ritual, and needs their writs sanctioned as "proper"... which is why those who know their grieveances might not get sanctioned turn to the dark brotherhood instead.
Have you -read- the reasons for some of those daily murder writs? They range from "business competition" to "I don't like their face" or "just kill some random people to scare the populace..."
Still not makes then "good", more like... "a tad less evil"...

Big indeed. When you play the Dark brotherhood DLC in ESO, those fanatics are like "how dare they oppose us ? We will show them"... Well, they dare oppose you because you're freaking murder fanatics, you jerks.

At least, the Morag Tong is honest. They don't pretend to be anything but paid assassins. They don't get all self righteous and religious about their murder ***. They kill because they're paid for it, and they're good at it. Also, they're pretty much part of the legal system in Morrowind, at least later in TES history. If arested by a guard, you simply get away by showing you honorable writ. the Morag Tong is seen as a lesser evil, a way to avoid escalating vendettas between feuding families. Get the legal assassins to do it, problem solved. That's dirty work, but honest work, not some false pretense of self-importance bzcause some higher authority from the Great Beyond or some such is telling them it'st he right thing to do.

Yeah, even in Skyrim and Oblivion I was never into the Dark Brotherhood. Even in Oblivion, when I killed the Grey Prince in the Arena after telling him his birth secret (which means he refused to defend himself and just waited to die) and got the "you killed an innocent, DB is watching youuuu", I never joined. I resisted joining in TESO for RP reasons too until the passives grew too attractive to ignore.

Gotta say I'm not really that into the "edgy" fanatical cult. The questline was interesting but the end felt stale to me since you don't get to question the way the brotherhood works even though you the main plot litterally is showing you how far they'll go even against their own members. URGH

In comparison, the Morag Tong's poitical aspects feel a lot more credible and interesting to me
PC/EU - PVE 2H stam orc petsorc (meta, what meta?) ww - terrible dps - mediocre player - fun times - free ww bites to whomever asks so don't be shy if interested

That's pretty much what I said.

The Dark Brotherhood will murder you if someone appeals to the Night Mother and pays for it.

The Morag Tong will murder you legally if a wealthy Dunmer noble makes it sound good and foots the bill.

The Morag Tong are the Dunmer branch of the Dark Brotherhood, separated by a theological dispute between the Night Mother and Mephala, and have since developed into their own thing - the murderers who take care of the sticky problems that the Great House nobles can't resolve with outright duels or without provoking a war between their houses if they openly kill someone. That's Dunmer society for you. It ain't nice. It ain't good, by our standards anyways, because by Dunmer standards being good at murder and scheming is a fine thing. That's why Mephala is one of their Good Daedra.

Now, you are certainly free to have your preferences between the Dark Brotherhood and the Morag Tong, but in my opinion they are both quasi-religious orders of assassins who kill people for money. They've got a different flavor, but scratch the surface and they are the same.

I have no interest in endgame. I have one girl who's 8 points from CP 160 (a year after I made her). I have many other characters, all of whom have lives that don't always include killing everything.... I RP in this game. That's mostly it: solo RP. Because my ping is so high that I wouldn't group and gimp that group.... and because I don't LIKE grouping.

As for "crouch walking", I don't.... I can do delves if I want to. But it's not a sort of thing I really enjoy. Let me rephrase that: I can do delves on my pet classes. I really prefer overland.

That's the really wonderful thing about this game. It can fit nearly anyone's playstyle.

The beauty of games is you don't have to do anything you don't want to do.

Though consider this.. it's not YOU doing the crime but your character. If your current character isn't a thief make one who is!

The Morag Tong are the Dunmer branch of the Dark Brotherhood...
    Other way around.
The Dark Brotherhood are the less self-limiting offspring of the Morag Tong.

But yeah, its just a different shade of assassins grey. Like mentioned, one with a -bit- more limitations, a -bit- more rules and ritual... but in the end, still murder.

What? My other main? Yeah, she is a murderer, no question about it. Vakar Morghulis! No, wait, wrong universe...

Do you mean 90% of the game where you play the Hero of Tamriel, fighting daedric princes, stopping the planemeld, rescuing people, fighting plagues created by evil-doers, fighting "evil cultists", making peace between opposing factions, bringing them together to fight for a common cause, fighting dragons, saving Elsweyr, righting various wrongs and basically saving the day, every day, for everyone?

I don't sell stuff in traders, so I make my gold by stealing stuff. I paid for a majority of one of my larger homes with the gold I made that way. It's also a really good test in patience, something that I, as a mother and a bartender, need to practice often and stealing stuff in game actually helps me with that irl.

True but you know that when you go there. It is the reason I quit wow really quick. And even in red dead redemption it is pissing me off. If they would bring that in this game they should also put in a system that if you don't want to use it you can turn it off or something.
