PS4 user here, I went and used all my 3 CE treasure maps, which are supposed to garantee a drop piece from the in-zone sets, and didn't got 1 in all 3 chests. So yeah, thanks ZOS for giving me 3 useless treasure map with my collector upgrade, very appreciated (not)

The CE maps never drop set pieces and is just trash.

Who needs one kuta from a chest?

I can get 2 kuta from a rune stone and 5 from a heavy sack or heavy chest. o:)

No they are not. CE treasure maps give you a few blues, the maps that drop as loot give a drop piece from the inzone set. Always has been this way.

It is always cool to find a chest hidden behind something, a tree, a rock... Somewhere you decided to check if ever... and you found a chest !
This is always cool to open a simple to master chest with lockpick and i'm always satisfied to open a chest like a surprise in the wild.
I think everybody likes surprises and, in particular good ones^^

But ofc, i'm agree we're often disapointed by the surprise lol. But this is OK, it' was only a little chest in the wild :) Maybe the next one ^^

This little thing also makes enjoyable to fact to explore Tamriel everyday. Sometimes we dont want to fight everything on nirn, just having fun exploring the landscapes. This is the same with thieves box, heavy sacks and psijic breaches you know. The same principle.

They could add a new style: Treasure Hunter.

5% chance to find a fragment of this motif in a chest ( those you find with the treasure maps)

Treasure chests/maps are fine. The game around them just doesnt give them a real place to stand out. A game where loot, even green and blue loot, drops every 5 minutes will struggle to make Treasure chests relevant.

    Let me make an example:

Treasure Chests in WoW changed alot from Vanilla to BFA, because the game around them changed.

The Chests are still the same, even better. Vanilla Chests had nothing but trash in 4 out of 5 times, but the fifth time, you would find a green Item, and people still went out of their way to find them, groups even rolled for who gets the privilege to open them.

Now they drop Blue, even purple level Items, and people barely bother to dismount to open them when they are right on their way.

Why? Because the game changed. In Vanilla, you got white gear as quest rewards for the longest time, green Items were something special, the chance to find one was worth the risk. And even if not, the chests had food and water, which was needed in the game, since ressource management was hard for most classes, and money, which was always rare.
Now You get blue gear from killing random mobs, sometimes even purple, Gold and Food is worthless. So why bother with the chests?

And sadly, ESO is in the second category. You get flooded with gear, gold and potions, and most of it, even green/blue quality is basically vendor trash for gold, which is also kinda worthless.
The Chests, especially the higher level chests, offer good rewards, but in a game that showers you with rewards, they become irrelevant.

But hey, that was what people have been asking for all these years. "Make games easier!" "Give us more rewards!" "Gib more epixxx!", and the games did. Now these people have what they wanted, they get instantly rewarded for basically just breathing, but the rewards have lost all value.

    They are achievement categories

    They are free

Never understood the complaint about free stuff

Unless I've had terrible luck. I've only found the basic paintings. Haven't found a telvanni velothi or summerset paining once in a chest.

They are there to make new player buy these crown thingies starter packs idk. Looks exiting so much stuff in there, treasure maps and all. It's just a scam. Treasure maps have been bad since release of this game. 5 years ago on my first character running around in started zone, I realised how useless they are.

Chance of Gold mats or increased gold would make chests worthwhile. Also maybe rare consumables like gold food or mount speed / stam upgrades dropping very rarely but maybe that's asking too much.

I sometimes buy specific regions for 100g and sell ones I don't want for 50g. Nothing exciting. The only ones that really annoy me are the CE ones that I can't bring myself to destroy and have to clear out of inventory.

Consider that treasure chests are transferable, and survey maps are not.

They expect you to want to gift/sell them.

From farming treasure chest this week with Elswery maps, I have made close to 500K from them alone. People who think treasure maps are trash are delusional. They are guaranteed set pieces. In zones with good gear, it is highly profitable. You could spend 10K on a bunch of treasure maps for Rivenspire and easily make 2 or 300 on just selling the necropotence gear you find. And even more if you pick up staves or purple jewelry.

I imagine you have cp unlock for treasure hunter?

Unless a set item jewelry is purple, or that necro has bis traits, a crap trait set item is decon-1-2k tops.

300k?, maybe with infused necro fire staff×3, purp jewelry, 8h farming, 20+ maps?

If you don't have your CP set for treasure hunter then you are farming chests wrong.

You can certainly sell offtrait necro for slightly less than you can sell good traited gear. People will often see that the impen piece they want is being listed for 20K and they will buy the 5-7K off trait item instead. If you are just deconning those items, you are throwing away money. If I spend 100 gold on a chest and sell the training belt I get for 5K, I am making more money than you who deconned it.

20 maps will cost you around 5-10K gold depending on the trader. Farming 20 maps takes like 40 minutes tops in the same zone, not 8 hrs. In a zone like Bangkori, 20 maps means 20 items, 2/3rds or so will be a decent set. So around 14 items. Lets knock it down to 10 items to account for head, shoulder, and bad weapons for the sets. Even if all you found were off trait body pieces, and you sold them for 5k each, you are looking at 50K. Or 40K in profit for 40 minutes of work and 10K at most investment. And that is worst case. Chances are that you are going to get a good traited item, or a weapon, or jewelry.

Treasure maps are profitable. And, for Necropotence, you can make 300K with less than 20 items on a good day. And are still making profit on a bad one. Now, if you are trying to farm treasure maps in a zone like shadowfen, then of course you are wasting your time. Because no one wants the sets.

If you have the treasure chest addon, you can run by all the chest spawn points while farming the treasure maps and make a lot of money. I farm chests now and then in Deshaan as both Mother's Sorrow and Plague Doctor can be easily sold. Easy money, especially with some people running VMA with the one bar build on Alcast's site that uses Plague Doctor.

The CE maps are trash though.
