If they had the option for Lyris or Sai to turn up in this role then it would solve all of the problems.

If you sacrificed Sai then Lyris turns up.
If you sacrificed Lyris then Sai turns up.
If you sacrificed Varen then both are available and maybe you get a choice of who you would prefer to work with (or both).

that would be ideal. bonus points if they take into account if you encouraged them to admit their feelings for each so that it shows them in a relationship. (incurable romantic in me can only hope :P )

Definitely. And have a bonus awesome for being an incurable romantic.

While I typically let Varen die because he should go down with the ship, Varen was actually interesting. If I could kill Sai instead to never see him again and instead see Varen in the DLC, I would have killed Sai each time.

I expect that if a player killed Sai Sahan, they get some new NPC in his place. I am really not okay with them introducing a choice where you let someone die and then just bringing them back this way.

He comes back through Abnur like Caldwell.

We know that is not the case. Sai is the Dragonguard guy people were eluding to in Part 1. He has been there the whole time.

In the E3 presentation, it was stated he is back as the leader of the Dragonguard.

So much this! Sai as a story NPC seemed like a pretty plain design decision.

It never felt like there was a strong connection to them imo, (If Sai had more character, I would never have picked them.) but Varen seemed to be more of an interesting character, an old wise man with knowledge and.. the fact he's the same voice actor as Dumbledore! xD

Wonder if Varen return one day too now that they're bringing back all the old characters regardless of "your" choice. #Immersion

I'd still play, but it IS a really big plot-hole in the story.

I really think we should just wait to let them explain. It isnt the first time in ES a canon thing occured even if in tbe previous game we did the latter.

What happens if you sacrificed Sai Sahan? The game deletes your character and a video from Matt Firor pops up scolding you for being a terrible person.

Nope, he is not only dead but already in Aetherius, and he did show up in Wrothgar.

people actually acting like they didn't even think about the canonical events of the game when designing it. lol. I assure you they'll have a write around for it.

    Who cares?

Story continuity went out the window with One Tamriel

You can be a hero to all 3 alliances by the end of the main story despite being some nobody who hasn't even left Stonefalls yet. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. If ZOS cares about story they wouldn't have changed anything about the way zones progressed...yet they did

Maybe they couldn't get Jennifer Hale to do some lines for them and it forced Zos’ hand to continue with Sai instead.

With the 3 characters that have completed the main quest, Sai died for 2 of them, and the last one sacrificed Varen.

Why? Because Michael Gambon is a favorite actor of mine, and no way in heck will I ever let my FemShep die (again...thanks BioWare). Hence, Sai gets the axe most frequently. 😇😁

I don’t really care if they retcon Sai’s death though. It’s not like they haven’t brought anyone else back already. 🤷‍♀️

I always sacrifice Sai! I just find it fitting that the warrior, the guardian of the Emperor gives his life to protect the emperor and save the world. Plus I found him a bit...bland...dull. :3:p Or how about this, I like Varen and Lyris more.

Second I saw him I was like "...no...noo...can't be him. He's dead! Like sacrifice to give me/the vestige super Aedra powers dead. What??? o.O"

Still totally confused. Well I know my main character will go *jaw on floor* when we see him ingame.

But they will explain, Matt even said so during the stream.

I just hope he's wearing a dang shirt this time. B)

I sacrificed Varen something like 10 times, Sai once and Lyris once, just to see what would happen with those last two. Don't remember which characters I did those two on, though.

If you sacrificed San, you will find out non of your actions and choices have a real impact on the world.
The red choices don't mean squat, except you could miss out 3 skill points at one quest which is probably the biggest impact for a quest choice for some people.

Blending the disciplines of the stealthy agent and subtle wizard, I move unseen and undetected, foil locks and traps, and teleport to safety when threatened, or strike like a viper from ambush. The College of Illusion hides me and fuddles or pacifies my opponents. The College of Mysticism detects my object, reflects and dispels enemy spells, and makes good my escape. The key to a nightblade's success is avoidance, by spell or by stealth; with these skills, all things are possible."

I thought it was 2 skill points.

So he will show up as ghost? Or he revived?
Probably nothing extraordinary. They might simply make a different diagoue option, saying that for example when Molag Bal died, Meridia restored Sai Sahan and all of the other companios etc. I expect something like that.

Now you know how I felt when Raz came back. Just stay dead already silly cat ...

But as for Sai, he was pretty big on his worhsip of Stendarr. Maybe the god of mercy has something to do with his return.

And I hope this sets a precedent for Lyris' return in next year's Skyrim Chapter :)

now that recall it again...i think you can chose Raz to die on one of the AD quest where you choose between him and the ancient chalic/crown or something like that, but i could be wrong tho...its been a while

In one of the Reaper March side mission, you can choose to destroy a dangerous relic which cause the place where Raz was trapped collapse, leading Raz death.
But at the end he manage to escape

If you choose to not destroy the relic, Raz will scold you.

    oh, I see

I need to replay that side mission, I think, but it doesn't sounds like "Raz can die" it sounds like "Raz can have a near death experience, but very definitely survives either way" whew :P
