Is 6/1/0 tanking a good idea?

I have 1 light and 6 heavy, because I only got lord warden in light and heavy. Should I keep farming for a medium or light warden shoulder?

6/1 is fine. You'd be better with 5/1/1 though.

The difference is minuscule. Your typical tank 5/1/1 build would have ~400 more mag and stam and lower resists (the magnitude of which depends on which pieces are of different weights) than a 6/1 one, with fairly comparable sustain. I personally always go for a full heavy monster set and make only the belt and sometimes hands med/light. This way, if my mental math is right, I lose only ~600 resists and a tiny bit of mag/stam instead of ~2150 spell resist and ~2500 physical resist if I ran off-weight for both monster pieces.

You loose about 700 resist just changing belt to light. This is because heavy armor not only has higher base resistance, but also a passive that adds resistances per piece of heavy armor.

I advocate 7 heavy. Undaunted passive is very unimpressive on a tank.

Edit note: actually that 700 loss might be for a medium belt. I’d have to double check.

I use 7 heavy, but it depends on your playstyle and what you feel comfortable in. I'm fine with having a marginally lower resource pool and being extremely tanky. You might not like that. There's also other methods of gaining resources, like Deep Thoughts from the Psijic Order skill line.

I want 5/1/1 because I can dip into some of the med and light armor passives. I also get undaunted bonus. 6 heavy and 1 light for magicka bonis isn't that bad.

What monster set do you use?

For most of my builds/mains i like to run 5/2/0 since almost all of them (with one exception) are specialized to the point that they have no use what-so-ever for their respective 3rd resource.

You can certainly tank with any gear combo depending on the content you do and the tanking style you pick, but if you have to ask the question, go with 7/0/0, it's the safe option. You get more resistances and better regen (due to the constitution passive that scales with the number of heavy items, though I haven't done the math, maybe the cost reduction on light/med offsets it, but that just means it's a wash in this regard), and even better health (again, heavy armor passives outperform the undaunted passive in regards to HP). What you lose is a trivial amount of mag and stam.

No. You're fine with having a marginally lower resource pool and being marginally more tanky.

7 heavy does not, in any way, shape, or form, make you "extremely" tanky.

Whether someone tanks in 7H, 6H/1M, 6H/1L, or 5H/1M/1L, it really doesn't matter. The differences in terms of resource pools, sustain, and tankiness are all marginal and mostly inconsequential.

For a tank, that small resistance difference, the undaunted bonuses and the armour passives are so small, you won't notice any noticable difference in gameplay. Just pick whatever you have.
