Star Trek Online & Neverwinter refugees coming to ESO

A couple of months ago the last nail in the coffin for many STO and Neverwinter players was the removal of the Foundry, the UGC (User Generated Content) system that allowed players to write their own missions and quests for everyone to play. Bang, there goes thousands of hours of my writing and 8 years of work down the drain, many others have lost a similar amount to me, some even more. As our entire 9 fleet (guild) armada was based around running the new and challenging missions built in the foundry there was nothing left for us to do other than replay the same 100 teamable missions again and again, and with content dropping at about 2 missions (quests) totalling about 90 min playtime every 3 months with a few boring 10-15 min raids occasionally it was time to leave.

I switched back to ESO which I always enjoyed and made a guild called Skyrim Red Shirts as an homage to our origins. About 15 people came with me and we are having a blast, going from 5k DPS to 30K DPS personally, and just finishing our first ever nCR without difficulty. We are now 170 people plus in 6 weeks and are very active, and unlike STO there is a seemingly endless list of things to do as a team (group).

I am interested to know if anyone else here is a STO or Neverwinter refugee and whether or not you intend to continue playing those games as well as ESO or are you out for good like me.

Sadly, I missed the chance. Still, they put a nice memorial to him on Vulcan.

ESO is my favorite MMO currently, well for the last 5 yrs anyhow lol. I do still pop in to STO for a change of pace and enjoy that game. I played NW for a short time but it just didn't hold my interest. Welcome to ESO. Enjoy your stay!

I don't really consider myself a STO or Neverwinter refugee, but I did play both games and ended up dropping them.

As a Star Trek fan STO just didn't make the grade for me. I'd really like to see a full blown AAA mmorpg made from the Star Trek franchise though, where each planet is it's own world and there's full, free roaming exploration like in ESO, more cultural background for the different races with deep lore, ext. I played a Vulcan captain and I think I expected a little more out of that than what I got. I also found space battles and the entire mechanics of the star ship to be pretty clumsy. A dream of mine would be to see a game where I could truly design both the exterior and interior of my star ship the same way I can in ESO's housing system, along with much smoother flight controls, but I doubt that will ever happen. I do have to say I did like the way I could design my own away team and uniforms though. I would have liked to see that system expanded upon. I wish ESO would let me design my bank and merchant NPC's that way.

Neverwinter was a kind of transitional game for me between games. I played it for a while after Aion's gameplay decayed, but ultimately ended up dropping it when Blade and Soul came out. I played Blade and Soul since launch for several years, until a sudden nerf in gold gain and general progression within the lower tier content became an impossible, unpleasant grind beyond what it used to be. That's when ESO had a free weekend on Steam, and the rest is history. I never looked back except to log in once in a while for nostalgia's sake and the fact that I still love my Blade and Soul characters. Over 2300 hours here and I'm much happier than I was in any of the other games, because it has exactly the kind of content I wanted in them. (I played even more games before any of these... x.x)

So...I'm not sure I ever plan on going back to STO or Neverwinter unless they show a lot of promise. But I have to say I love the name of your guild!

The foundry was the only reason I played Neverwinter basically. They really shot themselves in the foot by removing it. Hundreds of hours of creating quests, stories and maps all lost now. I'm still very bitter and sad about it.
I've been playing TESO for years, but I stopped playing NW some years ago (I only worked on foundry quests) and now that they removed it I don't think I'll ever go back there. </3

Being that I played the original AOL Neverwinter Nights and the Bioware version. I was ecstatic when they finally made the Neverwinter MMO. Sad to say I was very disappointed with what was created. I can understand people leaving to come here. I wish I would have started back when ESO first came out. Barring the technical issues the game has, ESO is an outstanding MMO.

STO has still some good points, but... ehhh. I enjoy it now and then when I feel the craving for blowing up starships, or spacebarbie dressup of my captains and crew, but... it sometimes is -very- unsatisfactory in both options and mechanics. So many things that seem half-done and then abandoned... (cough, startship interiors for rommies, cough), so many things that are vexing (like having to replay the exact same boring missions dozends of times to collect gear sets... with -every- alt...) and things that are extremely annoying (like how much they monetize through lockboxes, cash shop, and lobi store... if the latter at least were account wide it'd be bearable but nooooo, they are not even giving that much)

All in all... its a meh game, but still nice now and then for fans. Foundry on the other hand made it so much better.

And I'll keep playing it (and not just because I am lifetime) whenever I want scifi... until it shuts down, or someome makes something better. (Oh, what I would not give for a really well done mass effect MMORPG...)

Another thing that gets me, they shadowban anyone on their forum who is even slightly critical, almost everyone from our guild who bothered to use the forums are shadowbanned now, really dirty trick, you don't even realise you are banned until someone tells you.

Toxic over there unless you're a fawning sycophant.

I played Star Trek Online on the PS4 for quite awhile never really got into the end game group content though. The end game ship gearing kind of put me off going any further, think I got as far as the delta quadrant story-lines before I gave it a break. I will admit for awhile it had me hooked enough to buy a couple ships.

Think I stopped playing just before they redesigned the game story missions to get rid of the level requirements for each story line.

Before that I player Star Wars the old republic to death, 14 characters gone through the class stories and almost every imperial character through all the DLC content. only made one of each republic class. The guilds i was in there were never too active so didn't really do a lot of end game content. Plus my connection was lousy constant drop outs since they merged the servers. I will probably go back for the story expansions that are suppose to be coming out this year.

Looked into playing Neverwinter before I decided to give ESO ago.

Other than that been playing ESO since December last year, in about 5 trade guilds, may not do trials per say but we do plenty of group dungeons/pledges other group content every now and then.

Still have a lousy connection but its far better than what I had in SWTOR, drop outs are rare compared to being almost daily in SWTOR.

There is plenty to do in this game but too lazy to flesh out my alts, got them all doing crafting writs while I just play on my main. The only problem I have with the content is I am too lazy to go back through the story lines again on alts not much in the way of variation compared to SWTOR's story lines.

But I knew what I was getting into with an Elder scrolls game, player Oblivion and Skyrim.

After coming from SWTOR's inflated economy was not too hard to figure out how to make gold, so am not wanting for end game gear or gold at this point. Almost at the point where there is nothing I really want to buy, not really interested in the housing moneysink.

About 150 CP to the current level cap. Few more months and I should be a nine trait crafter, got all the current motifs during the event.

Some of the info on their site is a bit out of date, but a good place to make gold, if your into the economy side of the game.

    More refugees, welcome!

Starting off in ESO with the Chapter system can be quite confusing

    https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/473592/how-to-help-new-players-with-the-wow-migration#latest

I made a thread that may help if you or your guildies making the shift are confused as to why they start off in a zone with no mundus or that it takes place after the main story. Also, how they can fix that.

I wouldn't call myself a refugee (never really found what I'd call a home in an MMO till ESO, despite spending stupid amounts of time in a range of different games), but I did used to play a lot of STO and was very sad to hear about the foundry going, even though I hadn't played in quite a long time.

I don't think refugees from either game will hugely impact ESO tbh as neither have the huge player bases in the same sense as WoW. I've played STO since launch and gave up on Neverwinter not that long after it started and neither come even close to ESO in terms of quality.

Our Guild is entirely on/off/ex-players of STO and is called the Tamriel Trekkers. We're on here more than STO these days despite having two completed Fleet Starbases (Guild Halls) of both factions on there. Too much event fatigue and not enough end game or support for veteran players or Guilds though but a very good free to play system and worth trying if you want a free extremely casual game.

Neverwinter on the other hand just had their BFA which has upset a lot of players and is greatly inferior compared to this. It is also free to play but feels like grotty and mercenary, when I played Cryptic were very trigger happy with the Ban Hammer.

They will not be disappointed. I guess I have to admit that I am a WoW refugee, played on and off since 2007 until 2011. I started to play ESO in the 4th quarter of 2017. During my stay in Tamriel, I have realized that this game is one of the best game, if not the best, that I have ever played my entire life. Bethesda's games are amazing.

STO and Never Winter are both run by Cryptic. So the foundry was basically the same system, and they removed it by their own admission because the coders who made it were no longer in the company and when it broke, on every update, they didn't know how to fix it.

Eh, I don't really see a "wave of refugees" due to the Foundry. The people who were still playing STO are playing it for a variety of reasons, many of which are still there, and aren't here.

(There's a new content release this week in STO, btw.)

Yeah, I play STO on and off - I'm not a powergamer, so I don't run the group content. I return whenever there's an event or new quests, I play around with my characters' costumes & ships, I try out new game mechanics.... /shrug

I was never a huge Foundry user, but I remember it getting nerfed periodically whenever some metagamers figured out a way to use it to farm 'efficiently'. I guess it's kind of like RP'ers - the people who are into it are really into it, and most everyone else just glances at it in interest once in awhile. Foundry was great for the people who loved to tell & hear stories; it was used by min-maxers who built simplistic shooting galleries to gain achievements (or farm loot, before that was removed); and it was just something 'there' for the rest of us. For groups 2 & 3, it's removal isn't really a reason to 'refugee' over to ESO. /shrug

edit: it was definitely a cool idea. (Which Cryptic put into lots of games, City of Heroes/STO/NW), but any real gameplay use for them was nerfed out of them over time, in every game, in an attempt to keep min-maxers from building The Ultimate Farm Level. No xp, no loot - so yeah, the people who kept with it were the ones very very dedicated to Storytelling.

I am interested to know if anyone else here is a STO or Neverwinter refugee and whether or not you intend to continue playing those games as well as ESO or are you out for good like me.

I left Neverwinter as soon as my beta invite for ESO came through, so I suppose, sort of a refugee. To be honest, the Foundry was the best thing to happen to that game and I played some stunningly well-crafted adventures from there. Without the Foundry, the game will be a mere shadow.

I do miss some of the fantastic mounts I had in Neverwinter though.

RIP Atherton, my beautiful little gentle friend. I will miss you forever. Without you I am a hollow shell.

I played NWO as well a couple of years ago. I did a lot of grind to get decent gear. I left for a year, and when I decided to come back I saw that I had to start grinding aaall again as if it where from scratch. Bored the hell out of me and never looked back.
It is a very nice mmo, I liked it mostly because I read at least 30 books from RA Salvatore and the nostalgia to live his world was too appealing.
But it felt a lot like a p2w game if you wanted to be competitive pvp wise.

That is an excellent question and only the responsibles for this, ahem, let's call it stupidity to remain polied, can answer as to why they did it. At the end it all comes down to money I guess...

You can count me in as a STO/NWO refugee, I started to play ESO a bit over two years ago and I still enjoy it A LOT, especially the maps and stories. I was playing STO for over five years (not too much NWO though), as an old (and I mean old ;)) Star Trek fan it was the only MMO around. Having had two fleets (guilds) there I still was passing by 2-3 times a week but the loss of the foundry now has settled it: no more STO for me...

Here is the place to have fun, impatient to start the new chapter B)
