From all the Cyrodiil and PVP changes I've seen since I started playing in late 2016, I'd say that organized raids constantly adapt better than anyone else. They have more players, better organization, and voice comms.

So I have very little expectation that this is going to be the thing that defeats the organized raids, and every expectation that it will quickly be used to their benefit, or at least, to the greater detriment of everyone else.

I don't believe the purpose of the weapon was intended to balance factions or to kill 'ball groups'.

From what I understand the weapon is being introduced to the game to spread out the population by having something else on the edge of the map to fight over.

It also will help dethrone emperor's who camp in their final emperor keep, causing lag.

Basically it's being added to spread people out, reduce lag, and end those final emp keep 3 way lag fests faster, or if emp group gets the weapon, maybe they can capture a 2nd emp keep, thus spreading out population.

The thing is though, if the weapon is too powerful, the whole server will pile on top of the weapon creating lag. If the weapon is trivial to some, then that is a good thing because not as many people will bother fighting for it, spreading population.

The weapon spawning near the losing faction is just an added bonus more than anything.

Ok so on the left is the tooltips of a dps builds, on the right is tooltips of the volendrung.

You have a gapcloser, aoe stun, single target skill, snare removal, and aoe ultimate, all of which hits harder than abilities of the normal dps build, similar numbers to an emperor actually.

The ability's are all free which means you can spend 40,000 stamina on spamming dodge roll or holding block.

When you kill someone, you get a 26-30k damage shield depending on cp, and heal for 8400... so you can probs gapclose to a squishy opponent and use them to keep yourself alive.

On top of this, none of this requires you to have dps sets... You can use bloodspawn, malubeth or troll king+ argonian and spam lingering health pots every 20s. Full heavy armor. You then use 2 5 set pieces that either min max health regen with health regen drink, or you wear 2 5 piece sets that heal you or place a damage shield on yourself, which stacks with the volendrung damage shield, Durok + Fasalla is another alternative if you have a pocket healer.

My hunch is that an experienced dueler in an regular open world build would beat even a decent player with Volundrug. Those tooltips are meh and being stuck to run 5 abilities that ZOS designed - none of which are heals, things like Vampire's Mist, or Reflective Scales - rather than 10 abilities you choose to complement your gear, playing style strikes me as a weakness rather than strength.

Assuming people have add-ons like Dressing Room and happen to carry around full complement of sets like that just on the off chance they get Volundrung and get out of combat to actually switch, they can still get defiled, heal absorbed, gap closer rooted without the tools they are used to dealing with that stuff.

I see people in Cyrodiil on the PTS and I'd love to see this thing in action in a real fight. Maybe I'm underestimating it.

It does look very strong Vs. wall, which I suppose is its intended function, as the example of de-Emperor is often used with Volundrung. But it seems like that's what it is best at, which I think is a mistake.
Make Rush of Agony "Monsters only." People should not be consecutively crowd controlled in a PvP setting. Period.

Agree with the friendly fire idea, would prevent ball group utilizing it.

And then that thing goes into the hands of some funny guy that thinks trolling his own alliance would be fun and kills them. They couldnt even do anything about it.

10 minutes without feeding the weapon with AP from kills, that funny guy will perish :)

10 minutes of free kills of people of the same alliance that cant do anything against it would still be broken, obiviously they cant kill the artifact bearer.
Wanted to give a thought on why friendly fire with that thing wouldnt be a good idea. It would create more hatred among the own alliance than it would be useful against others.

It's weak, you're arguing something that isn't even an opinion. The damage is awful on it. It only PvDoors successfully.

    1v1 me! XD

Sure, we can 1v1 with Volendrung if you want to find it, set it up and then alert me about it. But I'm telling you, we went and tested the actual damage in Cyrodiil and it is complete garbage.

You keep saying it's powerful, but it's literally not. We had a magicka build AND a stamina build both pick it up and whack things with it...it's horrible lol.

These are from my own testing, I'm not sure where your testing in Cyrodiil has come from, but feel free to share notes with me on it.

Because quite literally, as it stands, it's not even going to kill anyone experienced. It's only good for hitting doors.

Also, we did kill another player with it, and it literally took like 6+ spams of skills while the dude stood there in PvE gear. It's absolutely trash lol
