Character Model Upgrade

Looking at the unique skins from Murkmire I noticed that they have far higher quality in comparison to the base game at character creation.
Quite a few of the Argonian skins look like plastic in comparison to the Dead-Water skin
I mean even the horns for Argonians in character creation look outdated at this point, very noticeable polygons and plastic textures

This is the case with all the DLCs in comparison to the base game, but it would be nice if the character models received an update so then they looked less like action figures and had higher quality modeling & detailed textures.

I'm sure Zeni could do even better facial animations

Not a Priority but it would be nice

If they know they can sell higher quality skins for crowns, they will continue to do so over updating the default skins. Also updating the older skins can have backlash responses for those who actually do like them the way they are, its easier to just have something that goes over the character than screw something up.

It would be cool if ESO did "a wow" and went over the original motifs, sins, areas and improved those visually... i think its most noticeable with the motifs and the areas but the newer armor styles looks visually SO MUCH better than the original ones

Zos increased the minimum requirements for running ESO, most notably ditched the older directX version they originally supported, but even stopped supporting some CPUs. It was so they could remove the hinderances that held them back.

Overall I think graphics are improving.

Yes, it'd be nice, but little financial incentive unless they did the 'it's in the crown store, so it's a cash grab' thing with it.

I seriously doubt they'd devote the dev/artistic time and resources to it out of the goodness of the corporate heart.

I would say this is a good idea, if it was just very carefully smoothing out the lumps and dents in the model.

Actually, I think you could do slightly more than that, as I do not think the current models are perfect, by any means.

For example, Bosmer females have weirdly shaped noses, which are flatter (less tip-tilted - more horizontal) at the bottom than the males' (it's normally the other way around, in nature) and which look different when viewed from each side.

But, given Blizzard's idea of an upgrade (human females...), I'm now far more cautious about any actual changes.

Even though I'm not 100% happy with the way my main looks, I took a lot of time trying to make her look, at least somewhere approaching, the way I wanted her to look.

It might be OK, if the person doing it was highly competent, but if not...

    It really wouldn't.

I had to stop playing my human female, as the changes were so bizarre.

I fixed that problem I race changed to a Space Goat.

In that case, Zeni would probably provide the players a free Appearance Token.
Just like they offered Name change and Race change tokens after the race passive changes

Yeah, the old motifs look REALLY bad in comparison to the newer ones
What's annoying is that they updated the Redguard and Orc motifs like 3-4 years ago but didn't touch the other ones
nothing too major besides better textures and proportions.

    Well, even then...

There is no guarantee, in this game, that what looks OK in the char creation screen looks OK in-game.

So, you could take the time to try to correct your char, after the changes and still not be happy with the result.

So, then, you have potentially gone from a char you're mainly happy with, to one you're not happy with at all, anymore and you either have to live with it, or try to correct again (this time for money).

This is the problem with changing what people have already taken time to create and in some cases, have already paid (sometimes, several times!) to fine-tune.

As I say, if it was done really well, then I'm sure most people would be happy with it, but if it wasn't...

Probably - i think finding ways to repopulate and "re-sexy-fy" old areas will only help the game...

That being said i would love a next chapter/expansion to take place in Solstheim

They should also do something about the dyes. It can be hard to create an outfit where all colors match each other.

Eg. The Bloodroot Wine dye sometimes looks like shiny gold, bronze etc. other times like matte orange or red etc.

    Solution a)
Add a slider which would allow to slightly increase/decrease the brightness of the color.

    Solution b)
Let us choose any available variant of a dye on any type of armor.

I agree that re-vamping the old areas would in the long run help the game especially when new players come into the game

Solstheim is too small to be a chapter
It will probably be a quarter DLC following a Chapter in Skyrim

Not what you are thinking (probably) but I'd certainly support improved meshes.

The fact that "metal" armour is just a skin so it moves as if it were a spandex suit is something that has bugged me from day #1

Separate solid meshes for hard armour to remove the unnatural flexing would be sweet.

I always found it interesting seeing their art/model skills and such improve over the years. You can really see it in the armor. Original armor, and new, are very different from each other.

Revamping chargen is tricky at best.
While folks seem to have veered off into updating old armor meshes, I think that's a separate issue.

Twice I have seen major revamps of character models in MMOs I've played. In EQ, Shadows of Luclin, they updated the character models. Globally, I think that went pretty well. But if memory serves, they gave the option to choose whether we used the new or old models.
WoW initially allowed the option to switch back if you wanted, but they seem to have eliminated that option with BfA. But WoW has additional problems that have their player base a bit miffed, and losing that option hasn't helped it seems.

I guess my point is that doing anything to the character models is a bit fraught to begin with, and ESO character graphics are hardly as terrible as the original EQ and WoW characters were. A few visible polygons can be forgiven, considering the depth of chargen in this game. Simply the best from a western MMO as far as I'm concerned.

Would I like to have more in depth slider control? Sure!
    More hairstyles? You bet.
Hair and eyes colors? Sign me up!

I guess what I mean by that is; there's no need to revamp the base ESO character models. What we could do with is an expansion of chargen to give us more options, more control, and more variety when creating our characters.
That is something everyone would be in full support of, no ifs ands or buts.

To touch on the matter of the older armors, the same could be applied there. Offer new versions of the base racial motifs but using the higher quality meshes and textures they've showcased in the last couple years.

But that's just my opinion on the matter.

Don't get too thrilled about that.

Q: Is there any chance in the future to update the vanilla designs to reflect the progress made over time.
A: Though question. We don't have unlimited time or unlimited people. We are constantly evaluating if we do something new or revisit something old. New stuff most times wins, as we learned a lot. If we would revisit old zones, we would need to bulldoze these if we would like to do major changes. We do add things and update those, but not whole overhauls (any time soon).
