No one's talking about the 600 gem mount in the gambling boxes ($250-$300 to get enough gems)?

The 400 gem mounts were already disgustingly overpriced enough but now it's going beyond that and I haven't seen anyone say a damn thing about it.
Watch any crown crate unboxing on YouTube. $100-$150 isn't nearly enough gems to cover it so I'd estimate even with redundant APEX mounts which is incredibly unlikely, you'd have to spend at least $250-$300 to guarantee enough gems to guarantee enough exchange value to get this thing.

Remember when people complained about the Dro-m'Athra Senche for 4000 crowns ($30)? Well at least you knew what you were getting and now we're looking at people spending hundreds of dollars (thousands if you want multiple in a crown crate season I'm sure) to get a chance at these mounts. This is on top of quarterly DLCs, this is on top of yearly chapters which have deluxe/collector's editions at retail, this is on top of a paid membership where the game is a huge pain in the neck to play without. This is on top of the awful client and server performance issues. This is on top of the decline of content releases in general and lack of cosmetic rewards for actually playing the game.

Honestly this might be the straw that breaks the camel's back for me. I've been playing for five years now, I've seen the business model become more and more egregious and whenever I bring up any of these points, I'm labelled a freeloader despite spending hundreds of dollars on content releases and collector's editions.

inb4 "just don't buy it lol" which is exactly the kind of mentality that enabled this BS in the first place

Difficulty scaling is desperately needed. 10 years. 7 paid expansions. 22 DLCs. 40 game changing updates including A Realm Reborn-tier overhaul of the game including a permanent CP160 gear cap and ridiculous power creep thereafter. I'm sick and tired of hearing about Cadwell Silver&Gold as a "you think you do but you don't"-tier deflection to any criticism regarding the lack of overland difficulty in the vast majority of this game.

I for one, dont buy crates anymore, the chance to get a apex reward is so low, collecting gem for them is so expensive.

But, its only for cosmetics, so its not p2w.

Lol, and regular weapon styles for 200 gems per piece doesn't concern you? I mean those argonian ones were unique at least.. and now it's just refined dwemer style.. 200 gems for sword, 350 for dragon ride, 600 for fire toilet, OMG, ZOS is rolling down the hill obviously.

I haven't spent a single penny on crown crates and was able to afford the price tag easily. This game provides many forms of resource exchange that allow you to get things that you might otherwise have no way to acquire. I would never spend hundreds of dollars for that mount, but using in game currency to buy crates works just fine too. Those gems add up over time.

If someone is interested in ways to make loads of in game gold, I'm more than happy to help. Hit me up @redspecter23 on PC/NA.

I also miss free crates, it actually made me not mind spending my crowns on crates because combined I could actually afford things but with no free crates anymore it would take a stupid amount of crowns to get enough crates to actually afford things like this so I don't bother.

Personally, I think that these really-high-gem items are aimed at people who have huge gem balances sitting around (those who got every free crate while they were giving them away, and people who whaled hard on the early rounds of crates), with the main goal being to sink those gems away.

So, not really intended as a "hey, I want that mount and have no gems - I need to spend $200+ to get it!" thing.

Sucks for the person who IS in that position, but oh well. Them's the breaks. /shrug

Not how this works at all.

Realistically, 600 gems will usually set you back around $80-$120, which is still horrifically expensive, but not as horrifically expensive. That said, if your luck is sufficiently horrible, $300 can net you as low as ~500 gems.

While I applaud the idea of saying, "yeah, this is the dollar to gems ratio," truth is, it's gambling, and they payouts can be pretty terrible at times.

Not how this works. They know it's only whales that'll buy this. If they get a hundred whales to spend obscene amounts of money on their crates, it's worth it to them. I'm pretty sure there's more than a hundred whales in a game played by millions (unfortunately).

Show me a crown crate unboxing video on YouTube where someone gets 600 gems for $80-$120 because I've watched several and even with extreme luck and getting a duplicate APEX they're lucky to get 400 for that much.

I've gotten 400 worth of gems out of $40. But, no, I wasn't streaming at the time.

Now, there is a critical detail about this. The more stuff you have from a given crate season, the faster the gems will stack up. The more things will immediately convert into gems. So, the first 15 crates could easily give you less than 70 gems.

Bit of truth in this one. It's getting hard to be excited for any mount you can buy regardless of the cost.

As for whether it costs too much, not sure why people get their panties in a bind for cosmetic items they don't have to buy. Don't be hating on the whales, without them you all would have to be dishing out big sub fees and the game would have maybe 25% the population. Instead, complement the whales on how nice their shiny mount is. It only takes a second to give them the dopamine kick to spend some more.
I am mostly pleased with the current state of ESO. Please do continue to ban cheaters though and you guys have to find out who is duping gold and how because the economy is currently non-functional.

I don't spend money on crown crates as I don't agree with that model and it hasn't made the game any less fun for me. As with life there will be things which you cannot afford (or don't want to buy) in this game and that's totally fine by me. There is no reason to get jealous just because a mount is 600 gems, if people don't buy then there will not be any 600 gem mounts in the future.

The Crown Crates actually end up being worth the price. 5k for the 15 crates, i got a ton of consumables, several cosmetics, the Grizzly mount, AND the statue and a xp scroll both worth 33 gems. When everything was exchanged for gems i had 150, more than enough for the Tenmar mount i originally wanted.

Think about it. Exotic mounts are usually 2,000 crowns, maybe 2,200. That, plus another 3,000 for that Grizzly mount and all those cosmetics and junk? Its really not ripping you off when it comes to value alone.

The whales keep the the boat afloat. ESO has handled monetization alot better then most games, mmo or not. Keeping the core product value and steady revenue. LOTRO was the last mmo, i played till 2013, WB went nuclear with the store ruining the base game, alota game design systems in LOTRO would be nice to have in ESO like skirmishes and deeds, would flow nice into ESO.

Yeah, I was sitting on 303 gems from free crates and mind you I missed most of the free ones last year due to my hiatus from game. I got two jester emotes for 16 gems a piece and that's all the content I want from those crates.

I love Dwarven spiders but this one isn't really worth it. I have the original brass one and ebony one and I can't ride them both at the same time, so what's the point in getting another one? Also this one just looks like it's uncomfortable to ride, I mean, it's red hot and on fire. They overdid it a bit.
