I dont mean to spark hate or negative arguments/comments from this thread, im just generally curious for everyone's reasons.

I personally cant stand the high elves and any time im in the zones where theres high elves i really try to not pay attention to what they're doing. It seems to me they're the most racist and classist race on tamriel. I play an argonian 99% of the time i am on eso, and the comments from high elves just irritate me. I often leave auridon with a big ol bounty during this jesters event for having to please undeserving professors that are giving rude and condemning comments to their students.

by all means, im all for quests and details that are dark and closer to the honest real world, but there is soo much of it in the high elves, it confuses me as to why soo many people like them.

So as an Argonian you do like Dunmer then ?

    Need a new master ?

Actually all races in Tamriel have some flaws, which can make them unappealing. High Elves are arrogant and bossy, Dunmer are arrogant and snobistic, Nords are hillarious when it comes to drinking, shorttempered and sometimes not even the brightest, Orcs are brute and one-dimensional, Wood Elves are cannibalistic etc. etc. etc.

Actually this is the salt in the soup of every world building with lore and epic conflicts and struggle. So basically those "flaws" are the important things. Those differences were actually always a main theme in the Elder Scrolls games, but ESO let them truly shine.

I play as a dark elf, a kahjiit, and an imperial on the side of playing an argonian nightblade since release days.

i personally like argonians because i like reptiles in general... but they have a ton of culture, along with the other races over ebonheart, much like the altmer.

i mean, the argonians are basically missing their own game full of lore, the other 2 races in ebonheart have 2 games full of lore for their own race.
most atmer in TES games are butts. lmao.

Can't I like more then one race? You asked why I like them and this is why.

Go ahead and enjoy as many races as you want, I was just curious why you liked a particular race.
I like lizards so I play an argonian.
I like humans so I play an imperial
I like fire and lore so I play a dark elf.

You can have as many reasons as you want to play eso how ever you like.

I find their culture and design interesting, and I've also gotten great usage out of their Magicka bonuses over the series which is a nice plus (let's not talk about regenerating stamina... :| ).

I get great enjoyment out of Altmer who are on the more eccentric side of things in particular, and how much dedication some of them have to their crafts given their long lives.

I definitely don't agree with all of their institutions and ideals, but I I tend to enjoy making stories with them the most.

We are the most specialized magic race, so as an offensive spellcaster, the choice is fairly obvious. Our culture strives for perfection, a noble goal. Living in dung huts in a disease-ridden swamp certainly isn't a great achievement in life, is it? And I know, we might seem snobbish underlining how we're the closest descendants to the gods, but we're actually quite friendly to the other races! I have a pet lizard, see? Maybe it's your cousin or something?

The ESO Elves are actually a good change in compare to the image of Tolkien Elves.

I may agree, that Altmer have it hard to be liked even by me, but Altmer don't want to be liked, they want efficiency and they don't care for your opinion.

Well they are the oldest race. They settled Summerset and one could say Summerset is the birthplace of magic. Or at least where magic was studied a great deal.

I like them because when I want to make a magic character I go Altmer, they just seem pure when it comes to magic. An Altmer Templar is a really nice and a pure character if you ask me. Plus their architecture is beautiful. You can not call Summerset ugly, nope. They sure know how to build.

Highelfs are about striving to be the best. Magic, art, culture, knowledge.

They are the single most advanced race on tamerial (non extinct, i could see the dwemer being more advanced). They have a wealth of acquired knowledge and power.

They are mostly xenophobic but the majority arnt racist.

From their prospective theyre in the right with what they do. Which is for the most part wanting and trying to guide the other races to a more enlightened state. If you grew up in alinor and saw people living in mudhuts and trees you would think "oh god i have to help these people"

out of all the 3 alliances the dominion is the only one who claims to want control of cyrodil not for power but to be in a position to guide the other races towards bettering themselves. Like it or dont, there intentions are good and noble.

They have the best quality of life, next to imperials who are essentially living in an off shoot of highelfs city noone even comes close.

And really they arnt even the worst tamerial has or has seen. They dwemer were outright cruel to everything. The aylieds built and empire out of enslaving the nedes (some of the ancestors of nord). Really even the nords and darkelfs are worst than the highelfs. The altmer think everyone are idiots but there not enslaving people like the nords and darelfs

Same as all the other races: because they provide another variant for building a character.

I agree. They were very weak in TES games due to that awful spell resistance and in Skyrim they are very good protagonists, so you fight with them without mercy. In ESO they receive a new life, but before summerset they remained those blunt racists as well. Only in Summerset they receive proper story and lore and well, from that point I think more favorable of them, but still i don't want to have an altmer toon.

I play them bc they are they are the best looking race “in my eyes” and I find most of them outside of summer set actually not that bad. Also most races in this game are pretty racist. Most think they are better then the others.

Definitely this for me. The only male character I have is Altmer. His name is Thran'duil, he wears a crown and golden armor, and he rides a deer. I have heroic personality on him, and the smug superiority of some of the Altmer works exceedingly well for his character as I imagine part of it.

I adore Tolkien's world, and admire a good many things about his take on elves, and this is the closest I can get to playing around with one. I suppose roleplay is essentially like playing dolls for grown-ups. :p

Not all high elves are racist and "classist". They are individuals, just like everyone else with varying personalities and traits. You can find ___ hole NPCs of every race in Tamriel. So I don't see why that should have any bearing on why a player should or shouldn't choose a High Elf.

Their appearance and racial traits are probably the dominant factors players consider when choosing a race.
