No. Not a good thing. people want titles to look cool, not to be BIS.
Playing your character the way your character should play is all that matters. Play as well as you can but never betray the character. Doing so would make playing an mmoRPG pointless.

Titles for non combat buffs? I'm all for it. Master angler giving extra swim speed.

Maybe an achievement for all critters in all lands killed, giving you a title of Hunt master, which then gives you a buff that has a red glow to all critters.

Crafting all possible woodworking furniture gives you title Woodcrafter and an additional emote, /puppet.

    Titles giving combat buff? NO.

I'd say no to buffs from titles. Titles are for show. Skills and passives are for buffs. Sometimes they can overlap. You get a title and achievement for fighter's guild 10 which also unlocks Dawnbreaker. So it kind of already exists for the things that ZOS wants it to.

    Favorite Foods and Potions

    • Parse Food for PvE:(DPS) Ghastly Eye Bowl (increases Max Magicka by 4592 and Magicka Recovery by 459 for 2 hours).
    • Gold/Purple Food for Sorc PvP and Meme Tanking:(PvP) Clockwork Citrus Filet (increases Max Health by 3326, Health Recovery by 406 [useful if stage 1 vampire], Max Magicka by 3080, and Magicka Recovery by 338 for 2 hours). Witchmother's Potent Brew (Increase Max Magicka by 2856, Max Health by 3094, and Magicka Recovery by 315 for 2 hours.
    • Trash Potions when feeling cheap: Regular CP150 Essence of Magicka pots that I obtain frequently from playing the game or Crown Tri-Restoration Potion obtained from dailies.
    • Crafted Potions: Essence of Spell Critical (Bugloss, Lady's Smock, and Water Hyacinth). Without magelight this is my primary means of obtaining Major Prophecy on my Sorc, which increases my Spell Critical Rating. This also heals and restores magicka. Essence of Immovability (Columbine, Corn Flower, and Wormwood). I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar/arcanist will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).

Played one Asian MMO where titles did give various buffs. The harder to obtain titles gave more than the easier ones. And the more titles one had, even more buffs. Tho the amounts added by these titles were not really needed (proven by the fact that the game had existed for years before such buffs were added), some players were always insisting that others needed to use specific titles for the different roles.

We already have enough stuff in game that allows one to try and dictate what another should do in group settings. We don't need any more systems to add fuel to those toxic fires.

That said, if titles could be recognized by NPCs and allow them to offer up additional dialogue regarding the title's source. That might be interesting.

    Example:
Player with Master Angler: *talks to chef*
NPC: "How has the fishing been going lately? Been wanting some fried catfish for a while now. If you have any, care to trade?"

Besides how would you even work some buffs, for titles, like the one for dark brotherhood where you go out and slay the people with the odd eyes, given the name of the title it would just rise critical damage and so on, which means it could risk becoming required for some builds and so on.

There are also just a few titles for fun how would those even give buffs lol

    Woulds be silly over all

The problem comes from the execution not the label.

How do you get a title? You do something worthy of recognition.

    That recognition is the title.

There are already buffs from recognition of worth. Fighter's guild, mages guild, dark brotherhood, thieves guild all give significant buffs for doing noteworthy deeds. If you want to throw a title on top of that, whatever thats fine, but to suggest that all titles have attributes, well attributed to them, has a very bad way of separating people and thats the opposite of what we want to do right?
Tl;dr really weigh the fun you have in game vs the business practices you are supporting.

That's the problem though, isn't it? You'd have to swap your title around based on what you're doing right now. Not, just set something that feels appropriate for your character and then forget about it.

    Off the cuff, no.

That said - it would depend on the buff .

Power buffs would definitely be out - but they wouldn’t have to be power buffs per se. Things like somewhat better farming chances for Grand Master Crafter, or better Roe rng for Master Angler I don’t think would beyond the pale.

    No, it would not.

The titles we have... are either "participation trophies" that everyone can get if they just plod through the questings, or "epeen badges" that allow the -good- and -determined- players to show off what they have achieved with their mighty characters!

It would be wrong to associate a buff with either - the "everyone can get it" titles are not worth a buff, and the "look how mighty I am" titles really do not need a buff on top of their already established mightyness!

    ...

IF anything... titles -could- have non-combat advantages When Active! Like... "wear 'Pact Hero' title, get 10% off vendors in pact territory" or "wear 'Explorer" title, get 5% extra XP from explorations" or "wear 'Executioner' title, get 10% additional gold reward from assassination writ missions", and so on...

Only if the buff was so specific it was practically meaningless.

Executioner title: Increases chance of earning Tainted Blood when using the BoW.
Hero of Murkmire title: Increase chance of harvesting a Scuttlebloom
Saintly Savior title: Improves chance of dropping the Clockwork Curator Polymorph

and so on and so with the rest of the titles that they remain just a cosmetic choice with some highly superficial flare to it.

The problem with this, specific approach is, it adds another thing you need to do before undertaking an action. "Oh, I'm going to go buy something, I need to put Pact Hero on." Or, "Oh, I'm going to do Elam Drals's quests, need to slot Executioner." "New zone just dropped? Better put on explorer before running around the zone!"

I get where the idea sounds compelling, but ultimately, it would turn titles into something that needed to be micromanaged for optimal performance.

And, you can say, "well, but so what, the buffs are so small it wouldn't matter." Except, at that point, you're already applying discomfort to the player by saying, "hey, you could do this better if you took this extra step." Add to that, that the act of changing your title would be a tedious time waster.

Now, you could alleviate that with an automated title switching system (and someone would, almost certainly create an addon to quickly switch titles at that point), but that gets into the range of, at that point, why bother?

If the purpose of titles is to give us a way to further define our characters, for ourselves, then slapping a system like this on top doesn't really add anything. At that point, your title is no longer an act of self-expression, and you've removed that choice from the player, with another optimizing system.

EDIT: I could get behind the idea of achievements having minor, non-combat, buffs associated with them. Like, when you earn Hero of the Pact, you get 10% discount to merchants in Pact Territory, regardless of your title. But that would be a difficult to balance system, and I'm not sure it would add enough to the game to justify it, especially since achievements are already incentivized with things like dyes, costumes, skins, mementos, and other goodies baked into the system.
