Was "Why Buy Elsweyr" trading guild a scam?!

So this new trading guild called "Why Buy Elsweyr" was actively recruiting. It sounded good and the guild leader seemed pretty active. They offered the ability to deposit different amounts into the guild bank at a lower rate to cover dues for a month, a year, etc. Lots of people deposited for a year because it was a good rate for a year. I even invited a couple friends to join. We had a trader in an OK location and there were daily messages from the guild leader about allying with other trade guilds, and selling advice; typical trade guild stuff. Then last night I find that the guild completely disappeared! My friend alerted me to the fact that they were out of the guild and all their items were returned. I checked and it was the same for me. I've tried pm'ing (account not found) and mailing the guild leader. No replies. Was this some elaborate scam?!

✭✭✭✭✭I am in a Trading Guild that has been around since Launch. The Core Membership has been around for years. They always have the same trader in a prime location (Wayrest). They run effective events to gain funds and have reasonable dues.
However, I would never, ever, under any circumstances ever give them more than one or two weeks dues at a time. Paying a month in advance is risky enough, paying a year? Phffffbbtt.
There are too many legitimate reasons to not pay ahead, not to mention all the sketchy reasons that potentially could be around. Especially a new guild? That is just asking to kiss your money goodbye.
I hope people learn a lesson from this, never pay ahead more than a week or two with a Trade Guilds dues.Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

✭✭✭✭✭While it is apparently common on console, no respectable trade guild on PC/NA will ever ask for an upfront fee. If a guild asks for an upfront fee, stay away from it.
There are some guilds may ask for a fee if you don't meet certain selling requirements, but if that happens, it's at the end of the week (after you've had a chance to earn your keep by just selling stuff).

Why Buy Elsweyr is a bad guild I use to be a member of that terrible guild from the start. Paid them 5000gp every week and kept my part of the store full of decently priced items. Then the time came for the release of Elsweyr the DLC. So this guild jacked up the price and sent me a nasty message that my 5000gp donation was no longer good enough for them.
Should of simply gave me all my donations back (approximately over 2 million gp in donations to their worthless trash guild) from the very start if you want to impose a tyranny of 10000gp a week from every player. 5000gp a week is near impossible for new players that don't have Thieves guild and can grind Hadran's Caravan all day and not mind the super high bounty for doing so.
That was the worst message they PM'd me with in the game all because they wanted a trader in Elsweyr so badly. Treated their long term members like trash. The Guild Why by Elswyer is trash and not worth the grind for how difficult it is to sell in their store. They even kick items out of the store on a regular basis even though they didn't expire. Because some idiots in the guild think they can sell it for more than what they really can get for it.
I doubt the guild leader ever grinds for any gold for their own guild Why Buy Elsweyr. I bet they think grinding for gold is a waste of time and it is. 10000gp in weekly dues is way too steep and only means mindless wasted time grinding to get that coin. Even grinding the Imperial city DLC is hours of wasted time for 10000gp.
I sold things in their store and typically it's only about 3 to 5 low priced items in the week. Not enough to justify me giving back 10000gp for a slow and lousy rate of sales.0 -
