Its a bit small for my hands but the number of buttons is idiotic.

YOOO I have an orb weaver as well. when i tell people about they seem so confused. I could not play with out it. Also a key pad makes the switch from controller to Mouse and keyboard so much easier.

Cannot stand the single button bar swap tho.
I'm lagproof using E for front bar, and Q for back bar.
WSAD for movement, 1-5 for skills, and also every other key in the area.
Good for guitar practice, although it limits the movement possibilities when using skills.

I consider getting one of the Nostromo type controllers for thumb movement. How is it, @Grynnyl ?

I use the keyboard for skills and movement, and a Logitech G300 series mouse with extra buttons for weapon swap (super easy), synergy grab (aka X), ESC, hide and so on.

While that's been kind of OK for years, I cannot strafe and use skills at the same time. So something has to change. Since the mouse has "9" keys counting the scroll wheel, and 8 are usable (the 9th has to be reserved for toggling between different programs on the mouse), in theory I could have a program with all four movement directions, usual left/right mouse buttons, weapon swap, and synergy grab. Have any of you guys actually tried something like that?

I've been playing games with cordless trackballs for over a decade, it would be just awful to go back to a restrictive mouse pad again. I supposed if my mouse had these buttons I would use them but keyboard has worked fine for me.

I use the number pad. I'm left-handed so my right hand is on the keyboard and my thumb on the arrow keys for movement.

1-5 are my skills, 0 is dodge, 6 is synergy, 7 is quick slots, 8 is interrupt, 9 is ultimate, enter is sneak, + is weapon swap, right ctrl is jump and I have various other things I want quick access to on the 4 function keys and the 6 keys above the arrows.

This is actually true and not a meme. I've found a slight delay when using a mouse button to swap bars. Might have to do with usb speeds but I'm not entirely sure.

I have enough trouble with Button 3 under the scroll wheel. Any time I've gotten a mouse with more buttons than that, I've been accidentally clicking stuff every time I tried to move the thing. I expect that it's something to do with how I hold a mouse.

Yeah, that's my issue too. I have a nice Razer upstairs. I hope I never have to use it again, because the first time I tried it, I hit the wrong button(s), and the girl ran off a VERY tall mountain.... The splat at the bottom was epic....

So i was happy to return to my garden variety Logi 2 button plus wheel....

Technically, both. I have all of the 5 actives set to keyboard 1 through 5 and the ultimate set to U. Then I use the mouse wheel button to swap between the two hotbars.

I have the same mouse as you, OP, but for me the mouse is to move with because I have always sucked at WASD. And I actually only use three of the side buttons since in other games I can move with LMB/RMB pressed and then strafe/backpedal with my thumb, freeing my left hand to hit one key at a time since I also suck at accurate combo keying in time pressure things like combat (I'm a fairly fast touch typist, let's credit that to childhood training on typewriters that got into my instincts early on, but even that is almost always one key at a time other than shift key use).

I have small slender hands and do a palm grip. Thus when steering with the mouse I can't also reach the further buttons and my muscle memory is for other games where that matters.

"Somehow" use the keyboard? I'm happy to have nice big keys to hit, on a keyboard I can program the colors of to make important keys stand out.

Hmm. I should also point out that I use the mouse for directional movement, while using the arrow keys left-handed for actually moving.

My setup is a direct downline descendant of the setup in the first games I played in 1985 - the SSI Gold Box games, set in Ed Greenwood's AD&D Forgotten Realms. I have micromanaged every game since so that my finger and muscle memory from YEARS of playing those games doesn't have to change.

What needs to change of course is my (abysmal) connection. However, that's a non-starter.

I use spacebar to bar swap and a combination of keyboard keys and thumb buttons on my mouse to use abilities. Jump is also on my mouse.

I found that using a (thumb) mouse button to bar swap and then using an ability was a little cumbersome than i preferred, so I switched to spacebar awhile ago. This way I'm using three different fingers for swap/ability/light attack so there's no delay or movement in between any of those actions.
Keyboard is more than enough for a game with 6 skills.

    I use the following setup:
    Movement: WASD
    Skills: QERCXZ
    Consumable: Tab
Dodge roll/weapon swap: Forward/back buttons on mouse

I have no problems using WASD and casting at the same time with this setup.

Besides, MMO mice suck for shooters, so you're basically buying a mouse for one genre.

exactly, coming from wow especially it was super easy getting used to the keybinding here.

    Movement: WASD
    Skills: 12345R
    Consumable: Q
    Weapon Swap: Z
    Dodge Roll: V
    Bash: C

This has always seemed pretty inefficient/cumbersome to me. I know people who played Rift like this too and their movement was always mediocre and they were easy to kite/catch in pvp. Using WASD to move and then having to use 1-2-3-4 for abilities means taking at least one of your fingers off WASD, forcing you to stop moving for a period of time.
