Worst future nerf: ZOS race changes.

No doubt it will be a nerf some way or some how :D

    ;) Have some faith.

Faith based on what, previous behaviour? Sure, you and the other reps have NDA knowledge but the player based can only go with past behaviour and this thread is evidence... ZoS hasn’t garnered much faith.

As for the question itself, sustain. No question.

    Oh boy where to begin..

The TG changes to movement, nerfing major exp from 40% to 30% and making bunny hopping to gain smaller speed boosts (useful when snared).

Then the animation changes to make the animations "more clear" which only made the animations look less clear and more messy, along with screwing up alot of the animation cancelling on some skills (such as the medium attack strife weave). Medium weaving just feels off ever since then.

Then came in the 60% cost increase poisons (thankfully adjusted finally) and the numerous proc sets. I missed the times where 95% of the fights you would get into would be players using just stat increase gear. The heavy armor meta which popped up shortly after took alot of the fun out of Cyrodill and turned fights from fast paced high octane combat into a slug fest.

Then came the infamous morrowind patch which pretty much took all the identity from the classes away. This was pretty much the final straw for me and I took a 18 month break because of this patch, only returning because I was intrigued by the new jewellery traits and the interesting builds you could make with it along with small scaling with guildies I missed. I had some sort of misplaced hope that ZOS had learnt from these countless mistakes and would be on their way to putting the fun back into the game.

Unfortunately Murkmire came around; the worst of these changes would have to be the changes to shields and the mobility nerfs. It is utterly perplexing as to why the major expedition skills were nerfed, imagine putting them "in line" with snares but have snares attached to offensive and useful skills while having a greater potency (60% snare on heroic slash hello???). The major expedition skills needed a BUFF so people would actually start using them instead of pots but instead they decide to nuke everything in sight. I've never been invested into a game where I would dread the patch notes coming, knowing every patch will just bring more awful and unfun changes.

This patch has also caused me to go on another hiatus from which I pretty much just lurk on the forums waiting for promising patch notes to make a return (though I don't expect it). I think the reason for quite alot of the outrage on the forums is because people realize how much potential this game has, with it's amazing combat system. I've never been so interested in an MMO before and this game really brought something new to the table. It's just such a shame the balancing changes ruin what could have been something amazing for the gaming community. Kinda not completely ontopic but I thought Ill'd just vent a little for once.
Overload rework. Power Overload now does physical damage and grants you the power of a tornado: You throw a brick at the target with a light attack, and you hammer your head into that brick with every heavy attack. We have decreased its Ultimate cost, but increased the chance that you get stuck in the animation.

Yeah. Bad faith. I believe in Zeni, they will mess it up.

That's sad. I wonder how many people also feel this way.

You're kidding, right? It's hard to find anyone seriously into the combat system that isn't drowning in cynicism due to the affects of nerfs.

For me, the nerf to stamina and shields are still incomprehensible. This developer statement about the shield nerfs still gets under my skin:

"We want players to make interesting choices when making damage shield builds."

Players were already making "interesting choices" and enjoying the game play strong shields provided to some builds. You'd be hard-pressed to find ANYONE who considers that adjustments required for these shield builds "interesting".

Placing more emphasis on what developers find "interesting" and ignoring on what the majority of players are actually enjoying is what breeds the cynicism.

    The Viper's Sting Debacle.

I feel that was the spark of future set and skill nerfs when the masses of Cyrodiil screamed about how Viper's Sting was always in their death recaps. Taking our Crit away from Proc damage will always be an open wound.

Refreshing path nerf for NBs. As someone who alternates between dps and healing as a NB I’m forced to not have a core skill in one of the roles.

It’s broken the class for me, I’ve had to level a Templar instead who seems to be a better class in every way.
Looking for any guildies I used to play with:
    Havoc Warhammer - Alair
LoC EQ2 - Mayi and Iskiab
PRX and Tabula Rasa - Rift - Iskiab
Or anyone else I used to play games with in guilds I’ve forgotten

Without question it was the Morrwind sustain nerf(s). These were so bad they caused the folding on more than half of raid guilds. Combat has never been even close to as fun since for anybody and it had a massive effect of floor lowering in dps with actually a small raise to the ceiling. What sustain changes were necessary and positive for PVP could have easily been done through battle leveling without wrecking endgame PVE. This nerf was also surprising because, for the year before it, most of the updates had been good and some of us thought maybe the combat team had gained a modicum of competence. The year and a half since Morrowind has had all net negative changes and demonstrated without a doubt that they do not.

Second behind the sustain nerf is probably the 40% shield cap. Shields now fall into that category of abilities you pretty much have to use do to lack of alternatives and other factors in game design, but you know are nevertheless a terrible deal. The reason given for the change was to make healers feel important but every healer I know hates the change and I do not run any content with healers now that I did not run with healers before. In fact, I deliberately run more content without healers than before because I think all Wrobel ever looks at when he makes a half whit decision is his internal metrics and I want to make it clear how bad he failed. Shields were never a substitute for heals. They were always a thing you hit before bit unavoidable mechanics or after you took a big hit to give a healer time to top you off. Healers are left out of much 4 man content becuase:
    1) Dps checks on much DLC hard mode content are very had for most experianced players to reach.
    2) Most damage is one shots anyway.
    3) Few heal checks exist.
    4) Even on content where dps checks are not severe most mechanics are timing rather than health percentage based and so are exponentially easier as dps increases. A lot of content has say a very high (say 2M) health add spawn every 60 seconds. A so-so dps group (20k each) takes 50 seconds to do this leaving only 10 seconds to dps boss. A high dps group (45k each) does it in 22 seconds leaving 38 seconds on the boss and therefore completing the fight in 3.8 times faster though doing just over twice the dps. See, exponentially easier though bad game design. This is even more the case when entire mechanics are skipped which they are in almost every fight with high dps. Bad, bad, bad game design.
Also, healers don't really do much healing post Morrowind since group sustain is job #1 and it takes up most of their casts. I might also add that the shield nerf came at a time when mag already pretty much getting wrecked in PVP and the nerf reduced their primary defense by 1/2 to 2/3rds making them utterly worthless.

You said future. I expect the worst future nerf will be the removal of racial passives altogether next patch. This will probably just amount to a 10% resource nerf, 9-15% resource sustain nerf, and 4-5% damage nerf. Racial passives are wildly unbalanced and have been a big problem since the removal of softcaps in 1.6 but I expect the "fix" to this will come with a massive nerf to everybody running a BIS race.

You win. Spot on. Take a bow.

Ever since I've played I've only seen heavy handed nerfs and nothing to increase the fun factor. It's still a fun game, but constantly gutting and removing gets old.

I was a new player (pve only), just golded some sets, took all my gold to do it. I could barely be competent with the shield. They wrecked it and life changed.

I switched to redguard stamsorc to keep same class since I never make alts. I got better at playing. Sustain f**n blows compared to... everything else, yet now they're going nerf racial sustain. So no clue what to do...

I feel like I chose the single worst class since much of the fun has been marred by looming nerfs and then the actual nerfs.

Bahaha stam sorc....the one class that's even envious of stamplar sustain. It's going to be even worse when redguard gets nerfed.

But I still love mine =(
