Unexpected crashing while in game

I've not been able to run trials or play BGs without crashing randomly. It sucks.

yep, heep crashing for me too while doing the new festival quests, most of the time every character crashes once during the 9 quests at random places (after wayshrine travel, riding in the middle of nowhere, jump off mount, entering inns to dance, ...)

    GINA,

This problem was a result of the patch and is some error that has been introduced by programmers. I have provided all of the requested information and have done advanced Mac troubleshooting to make sure it is not a Mac Problem. I was a Senior IOS, Mac customer service rep for Apple for several years. I have done all recommended updates to the computer and the computer specs far exceed the minimum system requirements. My Mac is a 5K 27"IMAC late 2015 with the upgraded Radeon display card and 24G RAM. This problem did not occur prior to the patch. This problem occurs in PVE, PVP, Dungeons, Battlegrounds etc. It is not machine dependent but a programming error. What is the ETA for resolution of this problem. As a ESO Plus subscriber it is especially troubling to discover major errors such as this indicating a lack of testing prior to release of the update.

This is getting tiresome. I typically get dropped at least two or three times while trying to run through the New Life quests. Always at random. Doesn't have to be when there is a crowd of other players, doesn't have to be when I take a particular action. I can just be standing still in the middle of nowhere and get dropped.

And it's not like my machine does not have the horsepower to handle the game...

Not sure why I bother any more.

I've been monitoring my crashes and they seem to happen 1-1.5 hours into gameplay.
Crash report always in the same place..rendering code.
I'm still on High Sierra for my OS and it's up to date.
Crashes only started happening after last patch.

Not here. I just had one when I was exactly 21 minutes into gameplay.

Just doing New Life quests, and it's quite annoying. If I were to try to actually play, explore, fight and follow quest lines and do delves etc. I'd end up throwing my computer through a wall.

This is getting extremely annoying. Espec. since you crash during a battleground and you get a 18 min timer for quiting!

I'm up to the point on bringing these issues to social media. The amount of fails from Bethesda in general is getting out of hand. Fallout76, eso it all adds up to failure after failure and it is time that this stops.

Hate to see so many having the same crashing issue with their Macs, but can't help but be happy that I'm not alone and that it isn't a "me" thing. I understand the holidays are upon us but it'd be very appreciated and nice if ZOS can get a fix out this week, especially since this shouldn't even have been an issue for as long as it's been.

@ZOS_GinaBruno Can you provide any kind of update so we're not all left hanging in the dark? Some communication is appreciated, even if you're still working on things.

Also, I understand this is a bit off topic, but will there ever be support or a fix for iMac Pro users? I had to install a third party app so I can reduce processor cores from 20 down to 8. Any more than 8 and instant crash upon trying to load the game. :|

That and the constant crashing every hour... it's pretty unacceptable.

Quick question. I have a Mac 5K Retina display 27in. Since the beginning of this fiasco I noticed that in any of the zones inclement weather was not showing up in the area. Have any of you seen any rain, snow, etc recently in your zone? I was at the festival site and noticed that a snowstorm was beginning to start..and the game crashed.

    Hi,
game still crashes. It seems a random event, not related to zone or content. Every 40-50 minutes the game crashes.
Do you have a temporary fix for this?

    Thanks

Anyone tried disabling all extra features like sunlight rays? By the exception it might be it.
I’ve never had any crash, maybe because I dont use anything except “grass”. No water reflections and low shadows. Texture quality at high.

We need to continue to File Support tickets and submit System Reports. There IS a solution. ZOS is committed to MAC & support for METAL. Let's provide what's needed and be part of the solution, imo.

I have stopped wasting my time submitting tickets because, simply put, I'm tired of three things:
    * The utterly atrocious, obtuse process that ZOS has for submitting support requests.
    * The canned, fatuous and utterly unhelpful responses that support sends back when a ticket is opened about macOS.
    * The lack of meaningful feedback about any actual progress from ZOS about this completely self-inflicted wound that has now been bleeding all over for more than two months.

Thanks for pointing this out!! Followed what another did and updated to SET MaxCoresToUse.4 "8" which seems to have done the trick. So happy to not have to open the Xcode app every time I want to play now. :)

Resetting PRAM was a pragmatic effort like 20 years ago. They can't seriously be asking you to try that.

They did, but it didn't work anyway. Support have now referred me to a special tech support team. Bless them for trying, but it's still a regular interruption and it isn't wandering off.

Also, I understand this is a bit off topic, but will there ever be support or a fix for iMac Pro users? I had to install a third party app so I can reduce processor cores from 20 down to 8. Any more than 8 and instant crash upon trying to load the game. :|

For this other problem, have you tried the editing the no cores, as per this post:

    https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/414104/instant-crash-on-my-mac-workaround/p2

I am a Mac Pro user and used this a long time ago and is OK.

Really looking forward to playing the game for more than 30mins at the moment though!

I also changed my MaxCores once I read the post. So far have played for 2.5 hours straight with no crash.
I've been crashing every hour since the last patch.

Updating my Max Cores helped so I don't have to manually do it each time I boot up the game, but I'm still crashing a ton. Averages about every hour, but sometimes I can get by a little longer while others (like just now) I crash at least a couple times within an hour or less. Super frustrating, especially when I do any PvE stuff with a group.

Yes I originally re-posted that fix for a secondary problem a user had talked about and it addressed that issue. I had already had this in place and also suffer the sub-hourly crashes.

I am mainly having to do PVP and hope when I take a keep I don't crash, and in the main I am OK, just crashing in between.

I can't do dungeons easily and I avoid VET and trials as I cannot stay there long enough. And I also avoid BG. Questing is OK.

As for my playing over the holiday - I was looking forward so much to playing everything, but had to resort to some basics.

Been playing since the beginning and really enjoy the game. I have seen issues before resolved quite quickly. But this has been the most debilitating bug cuting off much of the content I enjoy.

I hope this is fixed once the guys return from their break!

Well for the future, maybe try not to push a patch just before going on break.

To all of you who have submitted a support ticket and are asked to do some things. DONT. This issue is clearly a memory leak and is created by the devs who are working to fix the FPS issues we have gotten after the openGL drop.

Well, I can say that this bug, that occured after the last patch, really influinced my Eso holidays. Its good I have a real life because Eso in the holidays meant for me: No New Life Festival Quests, No Trials, No Pledges, no BGs.
Eso in the holidays was for me only: doing my daily craftingwrits with my 8 chars, with about 14 crashed which made that doing my crafting dailies took 1 1/2 hours to complete them each day. Aftre that I just logged off.
So, Eso was for me no fun last weeks and enjoyed me with real life in stead.

This is the last I heard from the development team on this issue: "I am sorry to hear that you are having issues with our game. With the MacOS 10.15 Mojave Update, support for OpenGL, the graphics renderer the game has used up until this point, was retired. As a result, and in order to continue to support the game, we were forced to rebuild the game using the MoltenVK library. As you can imagine, this has been a complex process, and while the migration has mostly been successful, there are a number of complications which are still being sorted out."

They go on the mention the problems that we have all been having etc. I am hoping that this will be corrected in the Jan3 update. What upsets me is that they knew this was coming and did not adequately test the client before Mojave. Apple provides plenty of time for development teams.

I’ve been having the same problem with constant random crashes, but oddly, it’s on my Win 10 machine (new, far exceeds game requirements) rather than my 3 year old MacBook Pro that I just upgraded to Mojave (it is just pathetically slow, but it doesn’t crash...I used it everyday when away for Xmas vacation). I got home, looking forward to the speed and superior graphics of my Win 10 machine, and was greeted with the same random crashes that I was experiencing on it ever since early December patch. Would it help to uninstall and reinstall the game? There’s clearly something seriously wrong with the setup as of now.

After submitting crash ticket & report, the support team said I ( like most of you) showed memory loss issue to be source of my crashing. They advised best idea right now was a complete UNINSTALL, and clean RE INSTALL of the game.

I just finished doing that (download took ~ 3hrs in SAFE MODE) so I'll update this thread on performance as I start to play now. I've stuck to mainly PvP lately but I'm going to try various PvE, BG, etc see how it goes.

I have played on the same game install since beta so I figured starting 2019 with a CLEAN INSTALL was worthwhile.

There does not seem to be any patch today. Nothing new downloaded for me as I launched the game just now. So, I am not hopeful that the problem has been fixed, but I'll know shortly.
