Will there ever be flying mounts?

Probably not. Not sure if there's any official word on it, but it's been brought up for ages, and nada. It would most likely require an investment in redoing most the overland areas like they did in WoW. An investment that I don't see coming, since they can't even invest in getting things like PvP areas to function correctly as they are.

On a personal note, I don't feel a need for it in this game. I can already run my mount at insane speeds, don't feel the need to fly over everything.

Highly unlikely, and they'd have to be disabled in Cyrodiil anyway.

Admittedly, plummenting to my death after getting ganked by a sniper would be pretty funny.

That made me laugh. Chains would be a lot of fun, too

Who cares about needs man imagin flying around on the back of a dragon or gryphon. It would be awesome I think they should try and make it happen.

Time and time again, devs have said no. Just give it a rest. We don't really need monthly "Flying Mounts????" or "Y NO AUCTION HOSUE" threads. The horse died in 2014, let it rest.

    No.

The closest thing we could ever expect would be if they're implemented as "portable wayshrine" assistants, which would be pretty awesome.

I'm not advocating for flying one way or the other but they could do like Final Fantasy XIV by only supporting flying in new areas and keep ground transport in older ones. They also didn't bother to upgrade the older mounts. I will say a lot of the flying mounts look ridiculous in the ground only areas though.

This was made into a few threads when Summerset came out. It was explained at length why this isn't possible on this game.

Not to mention that a majority of players were found to be against having flying mounts even if it was possible, because of all the lag and bug issues already present in the game and how this would add to it.

Its actually technically possible to have z axis incorporated into this engine, it would simply require every single area to be completely reworked and configured for that 3rd dimension.

    AKA won't happen.

No, there's no need for it either. People in WoW are happy that vanilla is coming out for the exact reason that there are no flying mounts available.

All flying mounts do is trivialise overland content by making half the environment skippable. What this also means is that overland feels empty population wise, because 99% of people are floating in the clouds.

Considering ESO lacks the verticality which GW2 has...
    No.

It's not going to happen. This game wasn't meant for going up.
Welcome, Moon-and-Star, to this place where destiny is made.

I play healers or DPS often for vet dungeons and trials (NA, CP810+). I play mostly elves or Argonians.
I primarily play Damage-Based stuff in PvP, but occasionally I'll play something tanky or got the heals.
I also love gaining more knowledge both metaphysical and mundane regarding TES lore.

I also occasionally role-play, but I prefer playing the game.

Yes, but it is not likely to happen. The game is not setup for flying mounts so the effort pretty large. Zos has said it will not happen.

How about teaching current mounts how to get over a pebble. Then look at actually taking off the ground.

Also, the current zones don't allow it

    - zones are to small for flying mounts. Already they feel small due to too many wayshrines
    - invisible walls everywhere
    - weird anomalies when you reach certain heights in certain areas (doomcrag in Rivenspire will be an example)
    - huge chunks of mobs can be skipped for quest by flying straight to goal

In order to make it work, EVERY zone needs to be reworked. And that, my friends, will never happen

The key to a nightblade's success is avoidance, by spell or by stealth; with these skills, all things are possible."

If ZoS put all that time and effort into making the game suitable for flying mounts for them to sell at 7k crowns each no doubt whilst having all the issues that exist in performance I think that would be last straw.

This thread makes me imagine my toons zipping about in a tiny spaceship. Like the one flown by the Great Gazoo or maybe like George Jetson, though those were a little large.

Oh wait, I could use Yoda's hover chair.

No thanks, I'm fine with the sorrel horse for most of my characters.

Your friends were mostly correct. There isn’t a third axis to work with on mounts.

Besides, as others have pointed out there is not a need. However, Zos could do hovering mounts since they follow the same route and can abide by the same rules as what we currently have.

This would be perfect...a griffin mount that runs/walks on paws and takes “flight” during sprint.
Simply an animation image...no actual vertical axis control...just added visual feature
