Where exactly did they say "no more free crates"?

I've seen quite a few posts now talking about "now that free crates are gone forever" and I've rummaged through game announcements looking for any such announcement and failed to find any. Where are people getting this? Is this actual information that ZOS officially stated, or is this people assuming the sky is falling because there are no free crates in this month's dailies?

I don't think they did say that. It seems to be an assumption.

Not only dailies - usually there were some free crates before season change also.

Nowhere that I know of. I think it was assumed because we didn't get any when the last free ESO+ event happened a few weeks ago.

Oh, and that too. So, zero crates from three sources.

ESO+ trial event: no crates -- unprecedented
Daily rewards: first time a month has no crates -- unprecedented
New crate season: no preview crates -- you'll have to reach back over a year and a half to find precedent for this

They didn't state it (this is not something that they would comment on either way), but with the available evidence, it's not unreasonable for people to "read between the lines".

Oh dang, now I am worried that it is true that there'll not be free crates anymore.

The answer? They haven't, people just love to assume, speculate and complain.

    ^ This.

It's sad but the evidence is adding up.

Hollowjack Crates seem to be the least popular season ever.

Instead of blaming free crates for a lack of sales and removing sources of gems, ZOS should crack the whip on the designers who have failed the marketing team.

Apparently, they've also nerfed the twitch drops. So people can't get free gems that way either.

I believe this is a contributing factor to why the Xanmeer Crates are being rushed out like this. Usually, we get around 1 or 2 weeks notice before they change seasons. I guess they're also doing it to cash in with the Murkmire theme while they can before the next DLC drops in Q1 2019.

Stopped watching twitch for "free gems" around 2-3 months ago, ever since after watching for 6-7 days 3-5h a day I didnt get a single crate.

I'm really not surprised. Hollowjack Crates were sooooo...Halloween, I mean that really only lasts for as long as people who are really into Halloween have an interest in the holiday. And not everyone is into Halloween. I loved the rooster but aside from that I had zero interest in the rest of the crate items, which is unusual. I think having those steeds be so very seasonal put a lot of people off. If they'd made it so the polymorph was optional I bet they would've made some serious bank because the mounts themselves are very nice but being headless is just silly if it's not a few days on either side of October 31st.

Pretty much this. Only because there is one period we did not get crates just for logging in when we normally do and one month that crates are not part of the daily login rewards.

It is really a very small sample being looked at to determine the sky is falling. But people like to speculate.

Good advice and a reasonable explanation as well. I'm sure many people would prefer not to be tethered to a game during the holidays and it would be unfortunate if they had to miss out because they chose to spend some time in the real world with actual humans.

We now live in a world where for a whole lot of people out there, complex thoughts and ideas can only be understood if they fit in a tweet. Is it really that surprising people would assume that no crates this month means no crates ever again?

I'm NOT picking on you because your's is a common theme. I'm merely using your post as an anchor.

Aside from ZOS's proclivity to launch games and DLCs of some questionable quality control, I really don't have a beef with them. I also realize their foremost concern is turning a profit. This is the way businesses operate. Moreover, they will seek revenue-generating avenues wherever possible, and will perpetually seek increased profit until significant consumer pushback occurs. The only language these people hear is money, or the absence of it. You don't like what ZOS is doing, don't buy their widgets.

Many people posting in these threads seem to reside in a la la kookoo land believing that game companies should be different from other businesses and should not continually strive for greater return on their investment. Believing this verges on insanity, or a high degree of naivete. ZOS, like many merchants will continually trot out new widgets, suggesting your experience will be so much better if you only plunk down some cash. Launching things that we simply must have to look cool or unique is ZOS's cash cow, as are all the people hellbent on possessing the next great thing. Often we can acquire this uber cool stuff only from crates, which tends to leverage even more profit than outright sales. It may seem unfair, but this is how it works in a free market.

Companies like ZOS want your money, and they want it through the cheapest delivery of products. I think the sooner you realize ZOS's stance in all this you'll be wiser, if not totally pleased. If you don't like ZOS's current profit model my advice is to quietly leave -- do something else with a startup that still cares about launching good products reliant on quality control and systematic testing before launch.
