Mad Tinkerer is a nice 5-piece PvP bonus paired some unfortunate PvE bonuses (2x spell critical). Most players have critical resistance, and they quickly learn to dodge the proc.

In spite of that, I have been looking for a level 4 mad tinkerer lightning staff and I keep reaching my deletion limit trying to find one.

Unfathomable darkness is cute. Crows shoot out of your chest. I farmed some for my thief (night terror and night mother's embrace on the sneak bar, unfathomable darkness on the fight bar), since I don't use it for serious PvE/PvP.

I'm doing all the dailies I can today to turn in tomorrow, and then during the event I'm just going to do the crow's junk finding quests because I farmed those up in preparation for the event.

I've only ever had the patience to unlock the crow quests on two characters, and one -- my thief -- only did it last weekend.

That said, the Clockwork City quest line gives 7 skill points in all, so playing through it has rewards -- including a few boss drops -- other than just the crow unlock.

i did it primarily so that i could unlock them at my own pace before the event instead of having to do it tomorrow. That way, i can turn in daily quests to get the event tickets with minimum time & effort, because i wanna get ahead during this event since i won't be participating much in the next one...

There's no ultimates at level 4, or many good abilities in general, so mad tinkerer provides a needed burst and stun on a low level duelist. I made the character pre-summerset, with 2 mad tinkerer light armor pieces. As of summerset I can replace both those light pieces with heavy armor, if I can find a staff.

The goods that you gave to gather for the crows do not have to come from CWC. You can get them from any zone or draw them out from your bank.

Yes, khajiit vampire stamblade thief (not the level 4). Swift jewelry. Steed mundus. I sneak at a full sprint and collide with guards without being seen.

Does Livewire proc if damage hits a shield and doesn't pass through to you?

If so, it might be of interest for VMA sorcerers. It would presumably proc AoE Concussion every 10-12 seconds. (8 second cooldown, 25% proc chance on damage.) Lightning Blockade turns that into Off-Balance, very reliably. (Concussion lasts 4 seconds, right? Blockade will never be down that long.)

Off-Balance lasts how long -- 5 seconds? 4? Whatever it is, there's time for one heavy attack against an off-balance enemy, if not 2. A Lightning Heavy attack should return around 4K magicka, if we believe the figures in https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/comment/4995497/#Comment_4995497 and add some Tenacity. Double that because it hits an off-balance enemy. That's like 300+ incremental magicka/second.

This is all complicated because there are other sources of Concussion in a build that's doing shock damage and nothing but shock damage, probably including a shock enchant that's proccing every 3 seconds from an infused staff. But I'm guessing that most mobs in VMA don't have off-balance immunity.

Does this all make sense? I'm assuming a lot of "facts" here of which I'm not wholly certain, so there are plenty of possible vectors of error.

Even if it's right, it's pretty VMA-specific, because it assumes a lightning staff heavy attack build will be confronting groups of trash mobs consistently at melee range and still have the peace to complete full heavy attacks. I can't think of a lot of places other than Maelstrom Arena that that's likely to happen.

Also -- even if it's right, the magicka return isn't that much great than what you get from Lich, if the lesser set bonuses are also factored in. (I believe Lich has 2 for magicka recovery, while Livewire has 2 for healing received, which is pretty low-value in this context.) Of course, Lich only works if you're willing to let your magicka pool drop quite low.

I got a couple of purple set pieces for killing a world boss. Deconned and got 1 grain solvent, so it wasn't all that bad.

There are!!! Got double drops and 2 coffers last night in AS!! Double transmute crystals too!
