Not getting it is fine, describing it as "silly nonsense" is needlessly provocative, especially considering the part of the community you are aiming that at is by nature confrontational. :)

Personally, I don't get how pitting yourself against something that doesn't think and does the same thing every time, thus negating the need for adaptive responses, can be viewed as challenging.

Could not put it better myself, well said.

the concept of being better than someone else is silly. nothing is that serious.
maybe that is because i am not wired with a competitive mindset.

some people really enjoy it and thats fine, but i dont. i never participate in silly pvp nonsense.

Well, that concept happens all the time in PvE, you know? We do have leaderboards for trials and arenas, after all. And there is a lot of elitism involved.

I think both PvE and PvP have people who have a big competitive mindset and are toxic. However, because PvP is more of a direct confrontation, you might have seen this more. If you think all people in PvP care about 'being better than the others', then you may be competitive yourself. Some are there just to have a good time, myself included, and I don't mind if someone defeats me. It's part of the game. I still aim to be a good player, though, with the correct builds and strategies.

I've played quite a bit of PvP and saw a handful of toxic people. Sometimes, I get dumb hate whispers, but I just add the people who do it to ignore list.

I've also played quite a bit of PvE, including hardcore trials, and it becomes very toxic the higher you aim. It's really bad when you are exposed by a kill counter, or have your dps numbers/uptimes questioned in front of an entire group.

In the last few months I've actually abandoned group PvE - dungeons & trials - which had been the staple of my first 2 years for character building - I did a whole account overhaul - and pretty regular PvP. I plan on returning to running dungeons in a couple of weeks. Overall it's a pretty balanced mix between crafting, trading, character building - done with the leveling part but a few characters stiill need lost of skill points and skill line - with both PvE (undaunted, gear) and PvP (AvA skill lines) being part of that.

Yup, that's the only thing I do in ESO in terms of combat. No PvE for me.
I used to do both, back when overworld questing actually required some skill and forward planning. You know, when vet zones were hard and Doshia could wipe your ass if you were too slow. I did all the original dungeons at level as healer or dps (or both) and loved it. I joined PvP at level 25 (I think) and was instantly hooked, rolling a character of every class to try different approaches and builds. I'd log on, do a few quests, 1 or 2 dungeons then enter PvP.

    Then things began to change.

Overworld questing became a challenge-less faceroll, the zones only useful for farming set-pieces. New dungeons became less about learning mechanics and working well as a team and were instead mindless dps races populated by an elitist class obsessed with speed and numbers... also to farm gear in most cases. One-shot mechanics if your team was too slow, endless repetition to try and get the parts you want, toxic pug's to make it more of a chore than a joy....

PvP was all that was left to me and that has seen its share of troubles with lag, toxicity, exploits, broken mechanics, and imbalance. It is still an unpredictable challenge though, and real world skill and reaction time still make a difference.

And like it or not, there is still nothing else out there with anything like as good as ESO's real-time PvP combat. I hate to love it but there it is.

Couldn't agree more. I used to love the questing when I started - now its just mind-numbing, run from A to B with no challenge whatsoever - the lack of challenge removing the immersion.. When new zones come out I'm like.. 'meh - what are the balance changes?'.

Bought Morrowinnd, yet never bothered to finish the questlines.. I tried.. I really wanted to enjoy questing again.. Same with Murkmire and Summerset.. haven't finished any of those, either.
I keep saying that DLC overland should be levelled to a much, much higher CP - and new players/characters should still start in the beginning CP160 zones.
I mean DLC dungeons are much harder - why not overland?

Result for me (since I don't like doing any dungeon more than once) - is that I only PVP now, and most of the new content is irrelevant. (Are you listening, ZOS??)

I was a wower, and I played in a PVE server since 2006, the only reason for me to do PVP is to obtain some unique items.
As for ESO, I do PVP just because I need the skills lines and I don't want to waste daily battleground exp, that's all.

PVE 95% of the time for myself. I enjoy the slower pace of solo-questing.
I grew to like Cyrodill however after I needed to level some things up for my NB (at first I HATED the idea of going there for PVP). I liked the rush of being able to defend or take something over with others. I'm awful at PVP but do have fun while I'm in there, which for now is my Bosmer-NB or my Khajiit-Templar healer.

no i don't PvP. i don't like being forced to cookiecutter ridiculous builds just to be able to do anything besides litter the floor with my corpse.

Actually in PvP you need a pretty balanced build to win, combining damage, sustain, healing and mitigation. You can't go for a so called "cookie cutter" or "glass cannon" build that you would find in group PvE DD.

While mainly doing PvE, I have a PvP char that I play regularly.

So it's a bit of both:
I do play PvP, and I quite like it - on my PvP char.
I very much hate it that I'm forced to drag my PvE chars through PvP to get some important skill lines.

I never play Cyrodiil. I grew on highly competitive Mobas and FPS games. Cyrodiil offer many experiences, but competition certainly isn't among them. Honestly, even card games like Hearthstone offer more competition than Cyrodiil.

Battlegrounds aren't competitive either, but are much closer to the term COMPETITION than Cyrodiil. At least, the duration is 15 minutes at most, so perfect option to fill time when not in Trials.

Would be extremely happy if they removed the current cumulative BG leaderboard and added ranked mode.

Since I start playing EDO my mindset was on PvP (and getting emperor title) which I did almost exclusively for first 2-3 years (almost coz I did my alliance quest story line and main quest for skill points, grab shards in my zone and get lorebooks to get vamp LVL 10 before reaching LVL 50). After years when population of cyrodiil start to drop down and with current pop lock massive sieges and combats are history. We still got them but not as same scale as before. So now I'm only going to cyrodiil when I feel like, if not I'm "running in circles" and that mean I'm doing some dungeons and trials I did millions of time... doing crafting writs I don't need... or decorating my houses or simply hung out with my guildies and help if they need anything. I will gladly came back to competitive PvP but it's hard to came back if it's not the same PvP I fell in love years ago:(

A more appropriate answer for me would've been something like, 'I like to PvP some but I would like it much more if ZoS didn't neglect it'. I originally bought this game for the PvP but I can only take so many bugs before I get frustrated to the point I won't play it for a month or two.

Maybe the PvP community wouldn't be so small if ZoS showed it a little love.

When New dlc`s drop i allways play trough the quests and do PVE-stuff, but PVP is where i spend most of my game time. I started out in PVP cause i needed skills. I didnt like it at first, but then i was invited into a Group and followed them (as a healer). It was a great Group off experiensed PVP-ers and they didnt kick me even if i was Garbage. They took their time explaining PVP to me. After my first keep capture and later deffence of that keep i was hooked. So dont be affraid of inviting noobs into Group and teach them PVP, maybe they stay.
