Will MagSorc posts surprised by Nerfmire crash the Forums?

I suspect there will be a WAVE of players (which don't frequent the Forums) creating a massive amount of threads wondering why their characters are now toast and/or AP sacks.

Thoughts?

No, as with most balances ESO and magica specifically is not suffering an apocalypse.

I doubt it. Most will see what has happened and wonder why since they never post or read the Forum threads. Especially the PVE players. They will learn from Friends and Guildies or simply from the rage in Zone Chat.

Shields are now stronger on the pts than they are on live. Plenty of videos proving it. You cried so much that not only did you prevent needed balance changes. You got an OP aspect of your game buffed even further...and you're still crying.

They won't crash the forums. Merely flood it.

And then we'll be rehashing arguments we had weeks ago.

    "RIP MagSorc"
"Wont someone think of the other magicka classes?"
    "ZOS devs play Magblades, confirmed!"
"Look, the time to complain about it was on the PTS, guys."
"OMG, why does PVP nerf everything?"
"The devs explicity nerfed it for PVE and PVP both."
"Why do we even have class reps?"
    "I'm quitting!"
    "Can I have your stuff?"
    "Geez, L2Play guys."
"My class is dead, happy now guys?"
    "Y nerfs? Y no buffs?"

You get the picture. I'm thinking about making a Bingo card for it.

Um, what? You do realize that a 50% of max health cap was put on both annulment and ward, right? As in, the two strongest shields and pretty much the only ones most magicka players use? Most players have ~25k shields on live, which will go down to something like 9k. With resistances factored in, maybe 11k total shielding? That's over a 50% nerf.

But I guess we're just overreacting since our iceheart and CP block shields will be ~20% stronger with light armor. That'll really get me through VMA.....

It is a buff to certain builds in PvP. A flat out PvE nerf though.

    • Parse Food for PvE:(DPS) Ghastly Eye Bowl (increases Max Magicka by 4592 and Magicka Recovery by 459 for 2 hours).
    • Gold/Purple Food for Sorc PvP and Meme Tanking:(PvP) Clockwork Citrus Filet (increases Max Health by 3326, Health Recovery by 406 [useful if stage 1 vampire], Max Magicka by 3080, and Magicka Recovery by 338 for 2 hours). Witchmother's Potent Brew (Increase Max Magicka by 2856, Max Health by 3094, and Magicka Recovery by 315 for 2 hours.
    • Trash Potions when feeling cheap: Regular CP150 Essence of Magicka pots that I obtain frequently from playing the game or Crown Tri-Restoration Potion obtained from dailies.
    • Crafted Potions: Essence of Spell Critical (Bugloss, Lady's Smock, and Water Hyacinth). Without magelight this is my primary means of obtaining Major Prophecy on my Sorc, which increases my Spell Critical Rating. This also heals and restores magicka. Essence of Immovability (Columbine, Corn Flower, and Wormwood). I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar/arcanist will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).

    @MaxJrFTW

    I find this fact comical.

You went from Magicka Sorcerers with very low resistances (including crit resist), and shields that saw no mitigation (past CP and protection buffs which are rare on a MagSorc).
When their damage shields dropped due to time or damage (contrary to popular belief you could remove a damage shield with sustained damage forcing the other player into perma defense or death) the MagSorc would MELT.

Now you are going to have MagSorcs with 25k + health and resistances, with damage shields increasing their effective health by 10-12k (stackable  ). And it will take MORE effort to kill a magicka Sorcerer than it previously did. Everyone wanted crits on shields not thinking about the fact that it is very rare to run >30-40% crit in PvP. It's a known fact to run 2k+ impen so stacking into crit damage takes too much from your other stats, and gets countered.

So now you have damage shields that are significantly stronger (20-30% more mitigation) against 60-70% of attacks, with an additional 10-20% mitigation on your health. Welcome to the MagSorc TANK meta. Enjoy what you asked for.

    It's pretty funny.

I’d be interested to see this “tank sorc” in heavy armor with 25k health, maybe 32k magicka, shield stacking. With no light armor passives will have no sustain and no penetration, no crit. So cast two wards, and maybe 3 or 4 actual dps skills (with that massive 15K dps you have left). Then have to heavy attack a couple times for resources, rinse and repeat. Ya, might be harder to kill but wont do much damage and doesnt really seem like much fun. Not many sorcs rolled a sorc to become a tank, at least not in my experience.

I’ve already been using the shield nerf as an excuse when I stupidly die when two of us are fighting a geyser boss (on the live sever but 🤷‍♂️). And that SOB Mr. Splitter and his one-shot. Bugged up for months and comes back raging with his stupid snakes on the ground and his one-shot. I still really want that Keelsplitter target dummy. That takes 0 dps all the time. Anyone affected by keelsplitter bug should get access to that target dummy in the crown store for 60,000 crowns.

Did some extensive testing of my magicka Pet Sorc on the PTS, my base light armor setup (that is currently on live) relies heavily on large shields and uptime.
In a nutshell, that build is dead. And that goes for both PvP and PvE.

Tried vMA, didn't get too far. Tried solo vet Fungal Grotto I, struggled the whole time.
Neither of these is a problem on the current live.

Then i switched to a heavy armor "tank" build. Surviveability went up substantially but in order to sustain i now have to do heavy attacks almost exclusively. Forget about light attack weaving. There just isn't enough sustain otherwise.
Crit went down a lot and my overall damage went down the drain.

    TL:DR
    Light Armor MagSorcs are dead
Heavy Armor MagSorcs survive but won't do much damage

Yeah but PvE only magsorc still get a huge nerf. Correct me if I’m wrong. I’m not in any way an authority on this subject or a theory crafter and I’ve never done PvP. I know the shield changes will take a lot of ... getting used to in my limited PvE experience.

... which is the whole points ZOS is imposing on the game.

    - Remove a class from the game
    - Make a pure DPS class unable to DPS.

Shields are now stronger on the pts than they are on live. Plenty of videos proving it. You cried so much that not only did you prevent needed balance changes. You got an OP aspect of your game buffed even further...and you're still crying.

    @MaxJrFTW

Yes it’s going to be quite a poop show for PvE magsorcs. It’s not fun.

why would this happen? it wont happen.
sorcerer shields are now even stronger then they were before, this is the very first patch i have ever seen that was intended to nerf sorc shield stacking and instead ended up Buffing thier shields.

But the cast time and Overload changes... Forget about the numbers. Imagine the sudden game play change for players that don’t read forums.

Why are you guys insisting on heavy armor? Sustain will be tough, lower pen, lower crit. I plan on keeping light armor, and having high resist values: 10k ish base, 7k ish major+ minor ward and resolve (boundless, blessing of protection), 6k ish bloodspawn. 23k right there, with the same sets from previous patches (shack, lich or riposte if needing more tanky, with vamp passive, breton passive). Swap a few max mag enchants with health (say, all small pieces), purple food, 25k ish health, 35k ish mag, 18k ish stam with high crit, regen.
Shield strenght will go down, but including resistances will provide better def.

I raged as hell for a few days, then got theory crafting, and came up with a pretty good solution (or so I would like to think). Oh and I’m pretty bad at pvp, but atleast I use my head and not get blinded by some changes (thank god cast time is off the table tho!).

EDIT: forgot to mention the psijic ulti aswell (which is very underrated). Sure you won't be able to slot an offensive ulti (I use panacea on other bar), but anyone will find it pretty hard to kill you.

EDIT 2: It even works great on live right now! Although I've switched to empowered, dropped to 40ish bastion.

That’s good news. On all the shields? I can change shields to one that doesn’t have a cast time. That’s the biggest one for me. I don’t use overload. And I recognize that it’s more powerful now. But people that don’t read forums..... it’s kind of a major change to those peoples’ game play.

The shield IS not stronger then before, I'm not sure if you are just trolling or you don't understand simple math ,but when a shield takes the full duration to go away, compared to it being destroyed faster then I can even cast it, THAT IS NOT STRONGER. Oh and on the PTS the shield is STILL 40% Not 50% with 40+k magicka and 18k health a 1.7k shield is all I get and that is with 100 points into Bastion. Sorc Is dead because of ***, who QQ about pvp, Maybe if the *** devs, would have just stopped shields from stacking, instead of nerfing them into the ground everyone would not be so pissed.
