Stop Raising the CP Cap With Each Patch

Okay so we all know Champion points are cool and all. They offer an end-game goal rather than stagnating at level 50 or old vet rank 16. It has its issues, of course. However, the constant usable cap increase with each patch is becoming more daunting for newer players. End-game progression shouldn't be a grind, but it is. I'll take the end-game pve community. This community is suffering with both people scared off by the CP grind or vet people quitting. It can days or weeks to get to the current cap. It's just becoming too much for newet players.

I may have over 1100 CP, but with each patch, the extra points are just becoming more and more useless with the diminishing returns on CP.

So yeah, ZOS. Stop raising the cap. It's not helping to get in newer players that will stick. And even reduce the experience needed to get CP. Make it faster so it's not a grind.

PS: For any newer players interested in the end-game trials and stuff, you don't have to be capped.

Zos gives plenty of ways to catch up with CP, multiple ways like the variety of xp pots, scrolls, and double xp events. If xp was hard to get I could see the issue but it’s never been easier to catch up than nowadays.

Cps are a stupid system that seems to have had little thought for the future.

What happens when we have all the trees maxed? It's just a poor system, VR was too, imo.

With a little thought they could have done something better, more in depth to make things a bit more diverse. Meaning they could have done a specialty tree.

For example, night blade could have had rogue , thief, or assassin trees. A system to specialize how you play.

I'm positive they could have done a bit more, but, that often seems to be the case.

Or just come to no-cp campaign and ease some hardship from our shoulders. We struggle to defend our keeps because there is no one to defend the keeps after we leave. Have fun in no-cp while raising your cp at the time instead of doing the boring grinding for XP.

They should be cashed in for useful things. Like a Lunchbox (Craftbag for crown /crafted food and drink) or an Alchemy pouch (crown / crafted poisons and potions) or a Utility belt (crown and normal repair kits / lock picks / undaunted keys / key shards / edicts) or Azuras star (crown and normal soul gems and empty soul gems).

Ie cash in 100 points and get all 3 5piece perks permanently unlocked (you'd only use 100 points at a time anyway) and a lunch box.

Cash in 200 and get Spell crit, precise strikes and the direct damage perk (you'd only use 200 at a time as one is stam and one is mag) permanently unlocked along with Azuras Star.

Cash in 300 and get three perks out of the thief line permanently unlocked and get the Alchemy pouch.

That is 600 CP wiped out. Back to 180 (210) CP max. Then we get to do it all over again. And we have essentially destroyed the CP system by 1/4.

Oh how i'd love to see that, that would be a whole game changer and it would of opened doors for a whole lot of different builds per class. Now it's just meh, either everyone is running the same builds.

    Nah.

Keep raising the CP cap with every quater-annual DLC/Expansion, so people can still feel their characters got better... even tho thanks to diminishing returns their improvements are not all that great in practice.

And as far as I know, every time they raise the cap, the catchup mechanic perks up as well and reduces the experience needed to get CP at lower levels... and the new rewards do give out increased XP scrolls like candy...

What I would like to see instead are more choices to make people think about where they want to spend their CP.
Like... sub-stars to further specialize, but unlike the main stars with a "can choose only one" mechanic. Possibly even with some drawback with some, making people think twice if they for example really want to specialize in swords at the expense of getting a debuff for all the other melee weapons, etc.

I actually think the Nightblade class could be destroyed.

Have Siphon merge with Soul Magic
Shadow, Legerdemain and the Thieves guild merge into a proper skill tree.
Assassination become a proper skill tree in the Dark Brotherhood.

For anyone that has ESO now, and does not have those DLC's, have an NPC that will grant them the skill line (minus locked passives that are present now). Or find another way to do it without putting things behind pay walls for those that already have ESO and do not have those DLCs.

Unfortunately, alot of vets are reinforcing the idea that maxed cp players should only be allowed in vet dungeons. I've already seen a couple of guilds asking for 810cp players "ready for Murkmire".

I can't imagine ZOS raising the CP cap indefinitely. Something has to change.

I have had 2 friends I work with, not give ESO a proper chance, because of how far behind they would start in CP system.

So I agree fully with the OP that ZOS needs to cool it.

And just like OP, this is coming from a capped CP player.

I say no. Leave it as is.
FYI - There is no such thing as 'night capping' in a world wide MMO.
FYI - There was no paid Beta. When they launched the game the Beta was over, even if you don't think it was.
    FYI - It's B2P not F2P. There is a difference.
FYI - It doesn't take any player skill to mash keys or buttons in this game. The ones that stay alive longer have the better internet connection and speed.
FYI - The game is not broken, it still works. It just has 'bugs' that need to be fixed.
    Balance is a "Bad" thing.

Example: There were hundreds of Jedi and only two Sith in Star Wars. The Jedi wanted, "Balance in the Force" and they got it. Now there are only two Jedi and two Sith.

    Balance is a "Bad" thing.

Or they could tinker with the mundus stones so that they buff certain CP skills while reducing the effectiveness of certain opposite CP skills based on the chosen Mundus stone, it could create a greater diversity, using a stone to buff damage at the cost of Armor CP’s or the like, or even use a different one to buff resistance CP’s at the cost of reduced Damage done, so many combinations to be thought of with so much diversity.

If you see me anywhere. Know that I am sitting back with a bag of popcorn, watching as ESO burns the goodwill of its player base with practices that only disrespects the players time like it did to me and many others...

If a game does not respect your time, best thing to do is move on from it and find something else.

Okay, so, show of hands: In this thread, who understands that the XP cost for each CP is directly tied to the CP cap?

As the CP cap increases, getting to the same CP as everyone else gets significantly cheaper. In fact, getting to 160 now costs less than it did to reach v16 originally.

    Anyone?

I like it the way it is. I am at the CP cap and am looking forward to creating a hybrid that can wield damage on par with that of a pure stam or pure magica build (will have to wait for the CP cap to reach 900-950 for that to happen). As of the last dlc, I began investing my 'CP increase' points in magica nodes since I already reached diminishing returns on stamina nodes. Being able to diversify like this opens up all sorts of possibilities and I am very excited about it!

Naw, continue raising the CP cap, although unless they give full access to your CP`s again, then I could take a year or two off and still be above cap

To be honest, if you don't have or don't want to spend "days or weeks" leveling to max, then MMORPGs are probably not for you. As a new player your first goal should not be end game trails. Your first goal should be skill points. And to get max skill points you will have to run through the story quests and zone picking up skyshards, lore books, delves, dolmens, and public delves. With all the exp buffing items, running Cadwell's silver and gold, you will get max CP and by the time you have all of your skill points, you will be ready to start group content. This whole thing sounds like the give it to me and give it to me right now without me having to do anything for it, mentality.

A low CP player should not be in DLC vet delves or vet trials. These guild are looking for progression teams for vet delves and trials and there is nothing wrong with that. There are plenty of other social/casual guilds out there that run vet delves and regular trials with non capped CP players.

Actually, newer players should have an easy time raising their cp, because the experience curve is constantly adjusted with every raise of the cp cap. If you find it too easy playing with them, try bgs, no-cp campaigns or for pve, cap yourself and don't spend them all. Easy as that.
