Pve magsorc scathing mage?

I have a buddy pve magsorc who says he uses scathing mage on both bars, bsw on front bar, zaans monster and Vma back bar with theif Mundus and he says the damage and proc chance is amazing in pve. He doesn’t like siroria because he doesn’t like to stay in one spot. Anyway he says his base spell dmg is 2.2k and his spell Crit is 64%. And after the 2 sets proc and with buffs his stats go way up. Anyway what do you guys think of the set? I’m considering starting to farm it in imp. City prison. Thanks.

Its not bad, scathing still doesn't proc that much on force pulse. You could just use julianos if you want to go that route. Would be best just to use mothers sorrow on the body and burning spellweave inferno and jewellery.

I tried MS with apprentice stone I did much better with siroria and BSW. Had much more spell dmg even with the theif stone and had 1 percent more Crit. I suppose though it’s prefe at that point.

And scathing on the front bar with decent Crit will proc pretty much everything you direct attack spam/weave and it’ll carry over. I just farmed some and tried it. Procs just as much as BSW I feel.

BSW on the body is best when mobility is needed (vMA, vCR and vAS), I can't get Scathing Mage to proc enough to warrant choosing it over BSW in those scenarios.

Siroria is still BiS in all other fights.

Well like I said I tried scathing on front bar and it AKWAYS procced and would carry over and bsw on both bars. According to the many dps test the siroria / bsw combo only beat bsw/scathing by 1k and a dummy doesn’t move at all. So I guess it’s users choice at that point.

I can confirm what others are saying: Scathing looks good on paper but does not proc as reliably as expected. I don't understand it.

Even when I tried Mother's Sorrow, Thief mundus and Scathing the up time was too low for me. In all dps tests I tried it was significantly lower than other combos.

Maybe it just doesn't work well with my rotations. I have seen others have good (but not close enough to best) results so it's definitely viable.

I still think front bar MS + body BSW wins though. Especially considering ele weapon > force pulse for dps and sustain.

You said you didn't wanna use siroria though right? Because I'd just use BSW and Siroria and thats that. However if you want to swap out siroria, that would be mothers sorrow still with THIEF.

Siroria is bis for all pve content as long as you are good at managing your stacks.

I guess I’m just wanting something new..but so far I’ve had the BEST results with theif stone, bsw, siroria, zaans by atleast a few thousand.

I made some test ( since summerset), it's definitely better than julianos:
    (between 60% ( = 10 more sp than julianos ) and 75% (= 88 more sp than julianos ) uptime)

You do need to use force pulse, it's better than elemental weapon with scathing mage, and your weaving need to be perfect.

But, keep in mind that it only proc on direct critical damage, you can't just put your dots and HA, be sure you can sustain this build, it mean you do need a good healer with orbs or shards.
For example the sustain is pretty hard on the last Vaa boss, and Vas HM, sometimes you get like 2/3 orbs during a fight, really depends on the healer. You will prefer another set instead sacthing mage on these fights.

yep scathing is just a little better than july in ideal conditions with ideal rotation...

there are just better or more reliable options for pve sorc
