Let me get this straight

This b2p MMO now sells classes for money? And people are OK with this? Well in this day and age of lootboxes anything can be sold I guess. I now officially declare this game THE most expensive game in history. It is b2p, it has subscription, it has lootboxes, it has paid DLCs and it has paid expansions. It's crazy.

Only someone who never played this game can say that. The base game will give you MONTHS of fun and is cheap af. No purchase is forced upon you.

It's not purchase AND subscribe AND buy DLC AND buy expansions AND buy lootboxes.
It's purchase AND (subscribe OR buy DLC) AND buy expansions. Lootboxes are entirely optional and do not interfere with gameplay.
Besides walking outside in fresh air and sun, this game is the cheapest per hour entertainment I've had in my entire life.

B2P games generally only continue to work by selling additional content.

If you want all updated content for free then you have to have a mandatory sub on all platforms, which isn't going to go well with consoles who already have their mandatory online access fees from Sony/Microsoft.

Battlegrounds are base game (core maps/modes only)
    Morrowind Story/Zone is DLC/ESO+

This is far from the most expensive game play any f2p game that is p2w people spend 6k usd on pvp gear easy just to win. I know I spent 200$ just on a sword in a game and another 150$ to enchant and upgrade it. This game is nothing to that.

Subscription is optional and not necessary, Morrowind came out a year ago (and Warden isn't a game-breaking uber class anyway), Crates are full of either junk or cosmetics and the DLCs/expansions are pretty decent (which you also get for free as part of a sub).

I'd say a subscription is a requirement, if you want to do some crafting, otherwise you don't need it (you are lacking a lot of zones then, though).
It's probably very much OK to just purchase the base game and start playing, this offers probably hundreds of hours of fun - and is quite cheap.

Selling expansions is one way to earn money und sustain the game development - which is obviously not "free" (as in "beer").

Purchasing loot boxes or other cosmetic stuff or crown store stuff will have almost no impact on your gaming experience, so just don't buy them.

Eso+ plus expansions will be less than 20 EUR (more like 15 EUR) per month, for almost endless gameplay - costaing way less than one movie+popcorn at our local cinema.

(PS: No, you won't get everything for free in life.)

Starwars Galaxies gave 9 classes for free with the NGE while destroying the rest of the game. Bad example, but they were 9 free classes nontheless.

Also Black Desert onlines classes you don't need to buy seperatly.

Don't forget, you're talking about a company that launched a full price game with a mandatory subscription and locked an entire race behind an additional paywall. Things have obviously changed since then, but that way of thinking has definitely carried over into the current business model.

the warden class compared to the already many classes in the base game to choose from isnt really anything special. plus its no big deal anymore as long as the class isnt brokenly op which warden is far the heck away from.

Morrwind was a paid expantion the Warden was part of that paid expantion, Its a hell of a lot cheaper to buy Warden standalone vs buying the DLC.

I see nothing wrong with paying for it it was a part of the morrwind expantion, plenty of other BTP GAMES have done the same e.g. Guildwars II

unless something changed - I distinctly remember having to buy new classes. or was it races? not to mention - for a while, the only way to upgrade gear at end game was via cash shop, the grind for currency to upgrade pretty much EVERYTHING was excruciatingly timegated (unless you spend cash, naturally) we are talking... imagine if the only way to get gold in ESO is by stealing, and once you hit your fence limit - that's it. per account, not per character. that would be Neverwinter currency grind. well... there's trading, but from in game activities, you are incredibly limited. and that currency is required for EVERYTHING.

and then.. there was a bag situation. for a while, the only way to increase your bagspace, after you get a few smallish freebies

neverwinter may be free to play, but if you are even slightly interested in end game of any kind.... you are going to have to pay.

there are NO game companies that won't get you to pay one way or another. becasue even the most altruistic hypothetical company.. not only has to pay their employees, but also has to pay for servers and bandwith.

isn't black desert - subscription mandatory? ESO gives you 1500 crowns per month with subscription. crowns that can be used to buy all sorts of things... including a warden, if you dont already have acess to it.
